Very nice video. One thing: the plants DNA is not stored in the Meristem, it is in every cell of the entire plant. The meristem has the plant equivalent of stem cells-where they can become many types of cells when needed.Wonderful seeing two experts teaching us!
Great info,I always let my stem or leaf callous before putting it in soil and I don't water them till roots start to show😉.keep them in indirect bright light and they will grow so good! I have propagated so many babies of all different kinds and they are growing like crazy and getting so big! So exciting! I propagate all different kinds of plants/succulents/veggies and flowering ones, everything really. I have about 200 different kinds and my collection keeps growing! The best advice I can give all of you and that has worked for me for many years, is to go by the no roots no water method and to let that leaf your propagating callous before watering. I'm not saying this is the only way, just what has worked better for me to have that success..😉 Happy planting!!
I suggest using 2 cameras for a scene like this. A fixed camera on a tripod zoomed out to cover the whole thing, and one with decent stabilization where you can pan and zoom as needed. You should use an off-camera mic. And btw, get rid of that cheap tripod you have. :)
Thank you for these informative videos! I do learn something out of each one of them. Please continue with this great work. Succulents, even though people say are the easiest plants to keep alive, I find that in order to keep them gorgeous looking, do require a lot of expertise. I was a beginner a few months ago but videos let yours really helps me learn. I am more comfortable now and I would like to go more indepth and these recent clips are perfect!
I LOVE propagating succulents :-) thanks so much fir sharing Debra and Aaron and sending you an abundance of love and happy growing from Ireland for a fantastic day XXXX
I LOVE this series on propagation. Thank you for this informative and interesting quartet of videos. An expert bringing another expert to teach us! Love it!
Great video content and very informative, but with the noise coming from the camera I suggest you invest in some microphone, or detach your camera from its tripod. But I wish you'd zoom in as they pull off the roots so it's easier for the viewers to see. Keep it up! You're doing great :)
Thank you. This series of propagation videos was shot on the spur of the moment, and although production values are poor, we decided the content warranted their release. Like all my recent videos, they have CC (closed captions) which help a bit. (Btw, I type all the captions myself.) As for a second camera, zooming in, a better tripod, better stabilization, dual input...yes, I agree. I'm working on it. In the meantime, please know how very grateful I am to my viewers---all of you---for your patience and understanding.
Hello Debra, I have quite a few leaf cuttings of various echeverias that have all rooted but not a single leaf has formed a plantlet/pup? Could i possibly be doing something wrong? They are all laid on a flat tray, much like this video. They formed roots rathe quickly and now the roots keep getting bigger, it has been around 2.5 months. Thank you
Sounds like you're doing everything right. Let them root into soft, friable soil that's kept moist but not soggy, in bright shade. They'll take off in time!
Propagation question: If your petals sprout roots but no rosettes after a month, is there anything I can do to encourage the rosettes to grow? I have some propagating by water only, they're suspended above water in a jar that have grown substantially but I am only seeing roots...
He first demonstrates it's best to put a finger on the stem while pulling the leaf. He did that once then goes on and plucks the rest without doing so. :)
Not at all, he deserves credit for doing the best he could in a spur-of-the-moment situation with a lousy tripod (mine). You know, ages ago the producer of a TV show told me that the biggest challenge wasn't video but audio. So true!
Awful, isn't it? I'm seriously thinking of taking this video off-air, I've had so many complaints. I keep it because it contains good info. I hope it provided some help to you, in spite of the dreadful problem.
I swear people with green thumbs can be as rough and do whatever with their plants and it'll still love them. But me with my brown thumb has to be as delicate with them as possible or else they'll just....die
You and many other viewers have said that since this video was released several years ago. You see my dilemma: do I delete it because of the clicks, or keep it for the great info? WWYD?
I've apologized numerous times for this, and I apologize once again to you too. As mentioned previously, I keep this video up because it contains good info. Yes, we had major tech difficulties. It was shot on the spur of the moment. I hope you'll still get something from it. Thanks for understanding.
This frequent comment always makes wonder if I should remove the video because of it. There's no redoing it, unfortunately. Usually I reply: "Yes...so sorry for the distracting clicks. I hope you got some value from it anyway."
Yes, yes, yes, yes. Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. So, did you get ANY value from it? I've kept it for the content. If I could fix it, I would. I can't. What would you have me do?

I never knew you could do this, I normally wait until they throw out babies around the base or runners. Thank you very much, very helpful.
sad...video content is great, but with the noise from the tripod and camera it is distracting from it
I agree! Apologies.

What a fun, informative video. Thank you, Debra!

This was great! Very precise! I would love to here him explain other succulents and cactus's.
What type of mixture of soil do you use for propagating and is it the same for growing the succulents?
Great video. I’m having a go at propagating a succulent from leaves and documenting it on my channel. Wish me luck!

@@QueenofSucculents Thank you so much for the reply.
I think the camera man needs brand new tripod
Yes...so sorry for the distracting clicks. I hope you got some value from it anyway.
I did my succulent propagation yesterday and it was my first time. This video taught me so well, thank you :)
You would need to wait for that cut stem on the rosette to callous before you could plant it to re-root, right?
Yes, ideally.
Excellent
Great information, thank you!
Loving these vids!!!
And thank u for sharing 😊😊
Very informative!! Thank you 😊

I hope an expert sees this and replies because it's beyond my expertise...sorry!
OMG ! I love Lola she my favorite I often refer to her to my friends as my girlfriend sad but true.
He first demonstrates it's best to put a finger on the stem while pulling the leaf. He did that once then goes on and plucks the rest without doing so. :)
Do as I say, not as I do? ;+)
FANTASTIC content..! Great knowlege transfer, as always. Your cameraman is a bit of a fool isn't he..?
Not at all, he deserves credit for doing the best he could in a spur-of-the-moment situation with a lousy tripod (mine). You know, ages ago the producer of a TV show told me that the biggest challenge wasn't video but audio. So true!
Wow, Lola’s leafs hate me but if I behead it the stem propagation if I leave some leafs on it will produce babies for me.
I got really nervous of the camera movement and the noise it makes. Otherwise, good video

@@QueenofSucculents dont take it off air. Its good info. Just some positive critisism for the futere. Fruit for thought
Bad camera sounds
I know...this series was spur of the moment and we had some technical difficulties. I hope information of value is able to come across in spite of it.
Please make video how to propagate Senecio haworthi i. a wooly-white succulent
Hi Debra I’m using water propagation but its turns out ,the leaf’s turns yellow...
I swear people with green thumbs can be as rough and do whatever with their plants and it'll still love them. But me with my brown thumb has to be as delicate with them as possible or else they'll just....die
It does seem that way, but it comes down to knowledge...where to grab, where to cut, how deep, etc. Comes with practice!
The crunching noise in the camera?????
Yes! I explain this in the description.
Great info but sack the cameraman
You and many other viewers have said that since this video was released several years ago. You see my dilemma: do I delete it because of the clicks, or keep it for the great info? WWYD?
@@QueenofSucculents Definitely keep it as the info is great
She's cute
You need a new camera man
What is all that CLATTER in the background?! Good grief! Had to stop watching!
Apologies, we had technical difficulties. I debated deleting the video but decided to keep it because it does offer value.
ugh i cant even watch with the noise and movement from the camera!!

That noise from the camera is so annoying I could not enjoy the video
