As a professional swedish chef for close to 40 years, I can tell you there is NO worchestersauce in traditional swedish meatball sauce. What a horrible idea, who the f*ck even came up with it?
I have never eaten or even heard about that for meatballs, thats like heresy. Its lingonberrys and maybe brunsås or else fuck of. Jävla idioti alltså. Worchestersås till köttbullar...ptvi!!
Absolutely correct, we don’t use worchestershire sauce or nutmeg in them. What we do use is mince meat, chopped onion, bread crumbs, egg, cream, salt, pepper and sometimes allspice. We fry them in a hot frying pan in butter. When done we pour a dash of full cream in the pan and let it reduce to a nice sauce consistency. Serve with boiled potatoes or mash plus lingonberry jam and if you like pickled, fresh cucumber.
@@NennaC I think nutmeg was a very popular spice among the Swedish middle and upper classes at the time our meatballs first were introduced to the middle and upper classes in the US (and possibly most of the Western world, but the original video is clearly made by Americans). In other words, what was actually a fad got recorded as traditional among the American foodies of the day and that perception stayed.
Lots of influential innovations was not mentionend.: Ball Bearings, Refrigirator, Light-house, Wrench. Also many of the really BIG videogames come from Sweden, most known is perhaps Minecraft, but there are many more. Modern day Swedish chefs compete in the upper leagues of fine cuisine, and we have the Smörgåsbord, and not to forget the Nobel prize festivities dinner. But traditional Swedish food falls short of most countries imo. There is a lot more as well from sweden: H&M, Skype, Gripen jetfighter, etc...
Sweeden is not taking smørrebrød, that is danish, and while you compete to have the worlds best cheff and resturant, Denmark have already won it, 3 times, we even have competitors in worlds best barbecue in the US. You have meatballs, we have Lego... And we are properly more frinds than we let the world see. I actually dont understand how Sweeden and Denmark are the two contries in the world who have had the most wars. Maby Magrete the 1st had the right idea.
@@perfrchandersen4853he meant the buffet not the dish, And Lego Vs surstroming, I now which country wins. Although it’s quit ironic a Swede took the Lego idea and implemented into a video game known as Minecraft. I’m terms of food sweden always lacked spices, same with Denmark to be honest but I would have to say Denmark can’t compete with potatoes, rimed caribou and lingonberry. Nor can they compete with Swedish snacks imo. Considering Denmark has half the population of Sweden it’s not really hard to see why Sweden generally is seen more innovating, although I usually compare the Nordic’s and Denmark as the same country against others because truth be told we are the same with different dialects. 😊
@@arvalb0 Feel the same way, i was going to point out how denmark have had the worlds best resturant for several years, but then i started thinking about all the sv90, the draken and the gripon that we should have baught. The volvo... You will newer get polints for Ikea, most men here hate being dragged to ikea by their wives. Swedish food is better than danish, but your not more innovative. Com on, lego, windmills, novbo nordisk, Ozempic. First eletrix car in the world, Noma. Honestly, considering you have twise the people, you should be worried that we are doing nearly as good as you, and just generally alwayes beat you in sports... 😛
Best thing about Stockholm is the summer. You can go swimming anywhere. There are beaches and boardwalks all over. The tap water is also always cold and very fresh.
The dynamite that Alfred Nobel did was for the mines to make it easier to mine but people used it for evil things. That’s why he felt guilty and made Nobel prize. One of my ancestors on my moms side worked with Alfred Nobel.
It's simpler then that, Nobel industries also included many military companies including the well known Bofors making the most popular anti-air cannon of WW2.
Almost right, although he hadn’t yet innovated the dynamite, he was manufacturing nitro glycerin which is why most hated him, then one day his brother died in a accident and the media thought it was him, and published how he had died which was met with a cheering and happy public Alfred realizing how much people hated him sought out to produce safer forms of explosives and give away his fortune for good causes. Alfred never saw the dynamite being used in wars,
The modern three point seat belt is high up there as far as inventions and pride goes. The main reason being that Volvo let any manufacturer implement it without any license cost to enable it becoming a standard quicker and save lives.
On top of the Best of Sweden-things: Allemansrättten / The Right of Public Access. I believe that since you are allowed to walk freely around most everywhere in our beautiful nature and along the shores and lakes it raises a certain feeling of freedom in our Swedish souls that does something to our self-esteem. We don't have to - nore do we want to - brag about material stuff or fancy titles to prove ourselves.
Things to always note on these type of videos about Sweden is how they leave out the differences between northern and southern Sweden. Cultural as well as with influence. The Ice hotal tend to be the only thing ever mentioned, and sometimes the same people. Which really is a bit narrow. Northern Sweden is for example responsible for the majority of our raw material exports, be it ore or wood. The last battle on Swedish ground (against the russians ofc) was held outside Sävar, a small community outside Umeå in 1809. Another note on swedish history in general is that while we may not have had many famous philosophers originating here, there's a great number of natural scientists and inventors from here that has been influential worldwide. Linné is just the tip of the iceberg, just check out the living legend Håkan Lans and his accomplishments. Also Sweden has set the standard for electricity within the EU. Oh, and Norway and Finland used to be swedish. Finlands Tove Jansson, of Mumin fame, actually had heritage in Sweden. And in that regard the video somehow amazingly managed to omit Astrid Lindgren. Noone can deny her influence. The list continues ofc.... there's lot of contemporary phenomenon and technology that are swedish of origin. Ever heard of Spotify for example? Or videogames like Minecraft, Battlefield, Candy Crush, Stellaris, Amnesia etcetera
Yeah, many forget the long country has two halves, or even three parts. We Scanians are in many regarda Danish and is the "kornbod" of the country along with like you the ice hotel and raw resources of the north in the scarces provinces where people live so far away from each others they need cars for everything and so on.
Was very normal with Swedish vikings travel west also, but most vikings from Gotland and Gaetland in southern today Sweden. Most vikings from Svitjod / Svealand (today Sweden) traveled mostly eastward and south east. Stockholms population are usually measured in metropolitan area which is 2,4 million people
Swedish Vikings (Norsemen) did not only go south and east. In Sweden we have about 30 "England Runestones". They all are raised in memory of people who went to England. The stones raised in this group of Runestones are one of the most numerous we have. Only the "Greece Runestones" and the "Ingvar Runestones" come close in number (Ingvar stones commemorate an expedition to the Caspian Sea). But considering the amount of England stones we have, its logical to think that some expeditions (the Great heaten army) to England called in men from all over Scandinavia. Many stones mention that they "took pay" to go to England. One for example say "...took Knutrs payment in England". Here are all the England stones ----->en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England_runestones
One could also mention "the father of modern warfare", Gustav II Adolf, usually called Gustavus Adolphus in English and John Ericsson who arguably invented the propeller and the gun turret
The one im most proud of is probably the three point seatbelt, they could have made millions and millions of dollars on that invention but the made it free of charge to the whole world. How many lives that have saved, nobody knows...
Kladdkaka is one of my favorite Swedish invention. And videogame influence from Sweden is big, like Minecraft, Candy Crush Saga and Bettlefield was all created by swedes or Swedish companies.
When ”Donald Duck and his friends” (Kalle och hans vänner) began to be shown in 1960, it was extremely fun to watch cartoons for a whole hour. The program shows different clips from different Disney movies. There are always many you recognize, but they are put together a little differently. the tradition persisted, and has become so typical of Christmas that no one can be without it. Many families meet before Kalle or after Kalle - NEVER during the actual time the program is shown. It is always broadcast at 3pm and even if not the whole family watches, the program is a nice Christmas tradition to listen to in the background. The program is extremely important in the Swedish Christmas tradition, even for children who can watch cartoons every day for hours.
Congratulations! I think you're the first native English speaker I've heard pronounce "IKEA" the correct way; e.g. 'ee-ke-a'. Sad though that the narrator could not get the name right.
2:05 *Good* things about Stockholm: Cozy vibes and almost 70% of the beautiful architecture preserved. Not only the real old stuff from the 1300s to 1600s, but a lot of nice buildings from the 1800s and early 1900s (i.e. before socialism). *Bad* things about Stockholm: Pretty cold in winter; fairly expensive, especially apartments.
Sweden also has a major top notch defense industry (JAS Gripen fighter jet, submarines, destroyers, mine sweepers, fast attack boats, haubitzers, Archer, rockets, tanks, all sorts of vehicles and fire arms etc etc.) Since Sweden has been neutral for a long time it was decided that Sweden must be able to produce all necessary equipment in-house and not be reliant on other countries. Another thing is that taxes are not 57% on all your income if you have a very high income, it's only on the upper part of what you earn, not all of it. It's a progressive scale. And vikings from Sweden definitely travelled just as much west as east. And also the facts in the video are a bit old e.g. there's a new prime minister and the info on Spotify seems old. Cheers from Sweden 😉
It's worth noting that Alfred Nobel owned many defense industry companies and that is why his obituary was like that, nothing to do with dynamite other then that his military companies come from his expertise in explosives of all kind that are kind of integral in weapons.
One of the things that Sweden is best at when it comes to defence industry is surveillance, detection and that sort of technology. One of the reasons you often hear about Russian planes breaching Swedish airspace is simply because we detected them first, sometimes on the way back to Russia. Sweden has also been very prolific in identifying new variants of Russian MIGs. So in many cases the jets had passed through NATO controlled airspace without detection but been spotted when entering Swedish airspace
The Christmas program is called Donald Duck and his friends but it's actually one hour of some classic Disney scenes with a scene from a new Disney movie. I don't think they mentioned that Ericsson created the first mobile phone network the first one to be finished was built for Saudi Arabia but Sweden's came on-line just after. Sweden has always (since Gustav Vasa was crowned in 1523) had a more cooperative rule than most Monarchies with the nobles and guilds influencing the decisions. That has permeated Sweden even in modern times both in how politics works and in the Swedish Model guiding how companies/workers/unions interact.. right now it's causing a conflict with Tesla because Elon Musk doesn't want the workers unionized. One thing I'm proud of in Sweden is Offentlighetspricipen which states that all information gathered by the state is public property unless there is personal privacy involved (medical records) or it's of national security concern (some, but not all military things). It makes it much harder for the government to hide corruption.
Greater Stockholm is the Nordic region's largest city with 2.3 million inhabitants, followed by Greater Copenhagen with 1.3 million. Greater Oslo and Greater Helsinki have 1.2 million and 1.1 million inhabitants, respectively. However, Greater Reykjavik with 215,000 inhabitants has the largest population growth of all capital cities.
That's true and nice to take boat. But overall Stockholm is pretty boring and not much to see as tourist. I had more fun in Copenhagen and Berlin. The people in Sweden are anti social and won't let u easily in. Compared to other countries. Stockholm has that stressful feeling too.
@@BurninSven1 Stockholm is incredibly beautiful. 😮 Where were you if you missed it? It can of course be gray and cold if you come here at the wrong time. But it is not the city's fault, but that we are located so high up in the Nordic region. Visit Stockholm during the early summer it’s lovely.
I've lived in Sweden for almost 35 years. I think Swedish politicians have done a good job, and no matter who's on top they always seem to get talked shit about X D The 'nazi party' became pretty big, and I think it's a bit worrisome since they seem to be more anti problem than pro solution. They don't seem to wanna bring about a new Nazi Germany, so I'm pretty chill about them, even though I'd much rather some more progressive would be on top. But out of those's voters I've asked, their worries' been about Sweden's economy - They worry Sweden might take in more immigrants than they can provide for and that it'll effect Swedish economy too harshly. I live on the second lowest economical benefits Sweden has to offer, and I think I have much more than I need, so I don't know where they get their fears from. And when I lived on the lowest income that was plenty enough as well - My own apartment, clothes on my back and plenty enough food (that's really all you really need), also I had money to buy both cigarettes and booze for the weekend. But when on this "Socialbidrag" you can't save money, so you can't prepare well for big expenses (like if you wanna make your own business). And if you work just a little, so you get a little bit of extra money, that income amount is subtracted from your socialbidrag, so unless you earn minimum wage or above there's no economical incentive to work. Sweden really should be a bit more lose on letting the lowest income takers make more money - Otherwise it's like a glass ceiling for those with the lowest income - That extra 'if-do-a-little-you-get-a-little' would probably raise morale, and increase Sweden's productivity circulation, which I think would be good for the Swedish economy. I think that since I could and still can live well on benefits, while others can't, there's probably a lack in Swedish education on how to handle private economy. I heard a statistic that Sweden's actually one of the slowest countries to implement immigrants into society, like a job and stuff. A theory I have is that it's partly because since Swedish people tend to be reserved, it's kinda hard to implement yourself with this as your new country. The state can only do so much - The rest is up to the people, yknow? Which is why I think it's so refreshing to have social immigrants come here! There should be more designated places for new Sweeds and original Sweeds to meet up and blend culture!
Smörgåsbord in its genuine form is something you come across in some very traditional inns and eateries, especially around holidays, but my experience was from the Christmas eves spent with our neighbours. The mother of the house made towards of ninety different things to choose from. One christmas, my father discovered that the "herring salad" was missing, but obviously didn't want to complain (given the rest eighty something things on the smörgåsbord). She had made it, but forgot to put it out. In conclusion, if you want to experience a traditional smörgåsbord (unless you happen to know one of these superhuman house mothers), go to a "gästgivaregård" in Sweden (according to me, they're best in Scania), particularly in december (in theory they offer this all year round, but it's bound to be more opulent before christmas).
We made one of Napoleon's top generals king of Sweden, his in depth experience of european great power high intensity war and the risks it would incur on Sweden makes it not unlikely to assume could have been important in his decision to implement the (long lasting) neutrality policy.
Old video. Stefan Löfven stepped down in favour for Magdalena Anderson from Socialdemokraterna (S). In the election of 2022 there was a majority shift so the social-block lost and the liberal-right-block took over the ruling power with Ulf Kristerson from Moderaterna (M) as PM
For me as a Swede I think it is so weird that other countries favorite Disney character is Mickey Mouse. Donald Duck had always been my favorite! He's more fun and more of a real character. Mickey is just too perfect all the time. Gets a bit boring in the long run.
I thought the video was gonna talk about max Martin and swedish dj's too when talking about music. Not americans with Swedish heritage 😭❤️ Also vikings went to North America too 😭 I personally really don't like smörgåsbord but I love swedish meatballs and my mom makes the best buttery, salty, crispy swedish pancakes and raggmunk (pancakes with potato in it) 😭 I also like korvstroganoff 😅❤️
Yes Swedish vikings traveled mainly to the east as said in this video. The vikings that raided England I think were mainly Danish vikings. Hence the word Danelaw that was a thing in England during the viking age. Norwegian vikings also raided England. Some Swedish vikings probably did but not as many as Denmark's and Norway's vikings. The great heathen army probably had many Swedes in the ranks. Bjorn Ironside was a Swedish viking and I believe he raided around Paris and in the Mediterranean so Swedish vikings absolutely did go west but most of the raids by Swedes as said in this video were to the east.
There is a region in the southern most part of Sweden called Scania. That region used to belong to Denmark from pre viking age till 17 the century . Those Scanian/Danish vikings went to the British Isles but also Normandie. According to Scholars and Historians If one visit Normandie you will find several place names which one can trace back to Scania. One is for instance the Normandic name "Ivetot" which is in Scania " Ivetofta". So many pre-normandic vikings came from the Scania region
Technically it was Svea Vikings, due to that it was the Viking kingdom of Svea, not Sweden that was really mostly around where Stockholm is today, but also a bit of the area that later would be called Österland, part of Current day Finland, and also probobly a bit of current day Estonia. It was first after the Viking age publicly ended that Svea kingdom occupied Göta kingdom and renamed the country to Sweden. The minor Kingdoms and independent areas of Nordic region was gobbled up in a matter of just a few decades. Some of those by force and some of them as unions. This is also true for Skåneland (current day south of Sweden) that at that point was independent but united with the the country of Sjaelland That would eventually create Denmark. Of cause what happen was that all Nordic countries that was mostly at that point in a lose union with each other, entered the larger Union of Kalmar. It wasn´t untill Sweden (some what forcefully) exited the union and brought a fairly big part of current day Sweden and most of current day Finland with. This was kind of was cemented what use to be unions to proper countries. This of cause happen over a 400 year period so i would guess they slowly integrated over time. But a a lot of the smaller countries was occupied by force. Apart from that, The Vikings technically never existed. They where basically a myth. Basically there was a low intensity war between Basically the Danes and the Norsemen against the current day British islands. Whats make this really complicated and is often glossed over in the History books is that the British Islands was mostly populated by Anglosaxans and Juts at this period in time that populated the Island around year 400 and year 500 and mostly of set both the Romans as well as the Celts that lived there prior. Here is where it really get FU... Anxlosaxnas and the Juts are basically Danes. Well Technically the saxans come from North Germany, the place that rest of Germany call "half Denmark" So the really the danes that fleed from.. the dane area to British island (that wouldn´t get that name until much later) moved the was finished about year 500, then other danes, attacked them around 750 and there was a low intensity war until 1016 when the Danes, the danes, the danes and the danes basically agreed on to stop fighting. (worth saying that the Anglo and the Saxons also didn´t like each other that much) The reason for the Viking myth was that the Anglo-saxons asked for protection from the pope due to the prior Roman population at that time had contact with the Vatican still (The Vatican was sort of a post Roman empire communication service). So the Vatican created the myth of the really barbarian Vikings that due to there writing survive survived to this day. We know from trade with Byzantine empire that Nordic people also did at this time, that a lot of the observation is make believe, and the term Viking pretty much means "those who attacks in bays", making it clear that the term was invented by the people being attacked.. Nobody in Nordic area call them self Vikings, they just called them what ever proto country they was part of. King Knut (written Canut for some reason in English) ended the war, hence the Vikings just vanished over night. Because they never existed.
@@mkill73I don't live in Gothenburg or Stockholm but I agree. Stockholm is stressful compared to Gothenburg. And I rather go to Gothenburg over Stockholm easy. And there's not much to see in Stockholm. If u want a fun time then I recommend Copenhagen or Berlin. Stockholm ain't even close to comparison. Much better people there that enjoys fun. Stockholm are just full of copycats and yea "influencers" 🤮
Perhaps not a point of pride to some but with companies like Saab, Bofors and Hägglunds Sweden is the third largest weapons exporter per capita and 11th largest by value exported.
The vikings didnt have our borders ofc but if you look at the map the best way to west europe is from norway and denmark so it makes scence many especially in the beginning of raids did go "viking" in united kingdom and france. "swedish" vikings was more of a trade and culturbearing kinda people, having birka in mälaren, it was the biggest trade-site with eastern europe and gamla upsala that was the big spiritual ground for asatro. But then "swedish vikings" was always ready to do what it was needed for the coins like the rest of vikings, for example it is with big posibility the vikings from here in sweden was the big northen warriors in constantiopel, also did "viking" on the trips taking slaves from the slavs and plundered. But also stayed and grounded kiev for example (like dublin). Its so much intresting history about this and i just go berserk (yes an other word from viking-era :P) so i just scratched some of the surface for you.
i am from uppsala but go to Stockholm a lot because it's only 1 h drive but ine thing i hate about Stockholm is the traffic it's so bad so you have to take the train
The oldest existing swedish cuisine would be peasoup. It actually can be traced back to the time of vikings. Its really good combined with drinking some warm punsch 👌🏼
Dig in to Swedish metal and you get more awesome stuff. And into the more extremes. Norway started the second Wave. And Finland is putting us swedes to the 2nd in most metal bands per capita!
He leaves out all the benefits we all sshare in sweden because of those high taxes. Like mostly free healthcare, exceptional education (free) workrights, very good public transport etc. High taxes are NOT a bad thing it means equality!
What can be mentioned regarding Vikings from Sweden going east is that they pretty much formed Russia. They had a strong colony both in Novgorod and Kiev, and even the name Russia is considered to originate from Rus Vikings, from the coastal area of Roslagen north of Stockholm.
The modern three-point safety belt was perfected by Volvo engineer Nils Bohlin in 1959 - and its patent given for free to the world. The invention has been credited with saving at least a million lives worldwide
Even though I had no part in it, I would like to say the three part seat belt. It was gifted to everyone beacause the engineer wanted to save lives mor than he wanted money.
Vikings went everywhere they coould sail, they were a key element of forming both the former sovjet nations (west of the uralic mountains) and the nations on the british isles, they even discovered "Canada" or Vinland as they called it, and of course Iceland & Greenland. Ever heard of the "north sea empire", it didn't last long but it was Denmark (+Greenland), Norway(+Iceland) & England under one king. The vikings spelled York = Jorvik.
Politics in Sweden is an absolute shitshow nowadays. The prime minister is not respected at all and the crime rate is rising. Overall Sweden is still a good country but it’s slowly but surely getting worse…
Okay, not all crime rates are going up. Shootings and similar acts of violence are increasing, which is bad. But most other crime rates are actually going down. I agree with you that Sweden isn't all that great anymore, but please don't spread misinformation ❤
The unwritten principle to promote the inept (so they don’t disturb the production "on the floor") is the worst. Especially in the public sektor. Though the broad public safety system often takes hight for any missteps caused by those promotions.
I think many swedish people aswell forget how big some of our exports are because many are not directly consumer product. But more company products. Defence industry, volvo and scandia trucks and working equipment. tetrapack they mentioner in the video I think is a sleeper company for many. LKAB
Thank you. Whenever I meet a Scott in the world we get along grrrreat. I met Bobby Gillespie once and he was very kind and cool. Saab from my hometown Linköping should be mentioned I think. Now produces aircrafts such as JAS Gripen and weapon systems. Ace of Base is thought of as kind of stupid music and people I think.
I have a decent but probably statistically lower-medium paying job and I only pay like 25% tax. There are deductions if you don't have a great salary. /Swede
Here swede deserve to be a global hero. He came from eastern sweden. today a country by its own Finland, Anders Chydenious he wrote many first laws in the world.. First freedom of speach/Write law ! A lot of Adam Smith stuff. But before Adam Smith like..... Educate you self to what you want, work with what you want, Sell to who ever you want, Buy from whoever you want etc. Because of him Sweden and Finland is the only countries in the world that EVERYTHING that the goverment on different levels do and say or recieve are PUBLIC. Unless it is on record decided to be secret. The rest of the worls has the other way around. Everething is secret unless decided to be public. That difference makes a HUGE and spectacular difference. A goverment try do hide stuff not seriously sectret stuff they are rosted. SO.....Why is this guy so unknown even to Swedes. Well he finally tried legislate one freedom too much and hit the wall hard as hell. "pack your stuff and go home and never come back again" level.. So what was it. ? Freedom of religion. ! The irony was ... he was a Priest ! Maybe why they kicked him all the way back to eastern sweden aross the nothern baltic sea.
Sorry for being "that guy", but Finland isn't a scandinavian country. Scandinavia consists of Sweden, Denmark and Norway. The finnish language isn't a scandinavian language for example... Finland has a lot in common with Scandinavia though, especially with Sweden (I'm swedish). If you say "the North" or "the Nordics" (in swedish: Norden), it includes Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Iceland. Hope that helps anyone that's interested in our countries.
The Swedish vikings are believed to mostly have travelled eastwards. There's even a theory that the name Russia origin from Ruser = men from Roslagen, which is an archipelago north of Stockholm. Ruser = men who row. This is a theory, mind! ☺ But it makes sense, there's logic to it. A tip is to search English Wikipedia "Rus' people", "Varangians" and also read about Rurik, who was allegedly a viking of Swedish descent.
This presentation must be around 10 years old as several things within it isnt up to date. Also, there is a looong list of inventions that wasnt part of this presentation but can be found in other presentations ofc if interested. This was a bit of a cherry pick but nice anyway! :-)
To the east there were many trades with the rich Constantinople in viking times. Some vikings became like body guards for their leader. Today you can see rune carvings in Hagia Sofia. Like "I was here". So cool! Also Volvo developed the three points seatbelt and made it free for every car manufacture to use the invention, of course it saved lives. Stefan Löfven was a pretty good leader. But we have had our first female prime minister, Magdalena Andersson (and she was strong) since then. And now we have the worst, Ulf Kristersson. He has no integrity. And of course there are many more things you could ad. The best history bit is The freedom times in the 1700s. The king was more like he is today and they tried to become more democratic with parties and new laws, such as freedom of speech and press. It is the oldest freedom of speech law in the world.
You are watching an old video. After the 2022 elections, the right controls the government and Riksdag, with the very help of Sverigedemokraterna(Sweden democrats). They also love our viking heritage, and intends to move us back to at least the 15 hundreds.
The Metro area is 2,4 millions (Glasgow 1,8) The Urban 1,6 millions (Glasgow 0,63) City itself 1,0 million (Glasgow 0,63) So the urban area is considerably more people than Glasgow but the whole Metro or the City proper have just a bit more people than Glasgow.
I’ve never been afraid of being exposed to violence in Sweden, and I’ve lived in a rather poor suburb for 15 years (in a villlage on the countryside before that). Sweden is fairly safe for common people and tourists. If you want to experience danger, Sweden will disappoint you.
Volvo CE, Volvo Cars, they do alot of good shit, so did SAAB. But 2 brands for such a small country coulnd't get bailed out after the failure to incorporate them. :( Just look at all the dumptrucks... They are all Volvo copies. Scania on the othe hand, which has same roots, are beasts and compete with Volvo trucks. SAAB was an aviation industry that got into cars. Now they're just into Fighter Jets and "defensive" material. (Sold worldwide and nice quality, just like their cars.... Had 6 of them in different configurations, so trimmable for a straight 4. :P Stock engine can handle 300-350 whp)
In my humble opinion... politics have taken a little turn towards being appealing for mostly right here right now-"problems". It also seems to be important for politicians to be popular as persons in a way that i dont myself understand. The way i see a democratic functional political system that follows its own purpose and logics, well... "faces" shouldnt be of importance. What we can agree that we aim for should be given back some more space in the room...
there are not one recepie on swedish meatballs, there are probably one in every home that makes them. taxes are high but not that high. The sphere is called Avicii arena not ericsson globe anymore
We got to many immigrants the last 15 years for sure and struggling with gangs now it’s quite sad, Sweden is not the same safe place I grew up in as a kid.
A "regular Joe" swede will pay 31-32% in taxes. There is an income bracket where higher wages equals higher taxes. Swedes are very "non-bragadocious" and don't really live in extravagant mansions anyway. 😅 So most rich Swedes don't really mind paying a little more in taxes. It is just how things are here. "Poor" people are a little less poor in Sweden, and rich people are a little less rich. More income equality than in many countries 💕, but of course still a difference between "rich and poor".
Taxes are over 50% for regular wokers. And Wallenberg owns like a forth or third of the entire economy. And the top 15 richest families own 70% of the stock market in Stockholm paying basically 0 taxes on it. Sweden is a tax heaven for rich people. And you still believe the socialdemocratic lie that the rich pay their fair share of taxes?
Stockholm syndrome is not an actual condition, but a theory or at best proposed condition. It has never been included in any international classification system. This is mainly due to the fact that there is very little research done, there's no validated diagnostics criterias etc. It's basically media and pop culture that talks about this, not psychologists and other professionals. It's bad enough that people throw around names of disorders like schizophrenia without actually knowing what it is (often people use it more as to describe what they think Dissociative Identity Disorder, or also known as multiple personality disorder is like). We don't need the extra misinformation about there actually being a condition that isn't even confirmed yet.
Swedes don't mind paying higher taxes as they get higher income, it doesn't really affect ur way of life when u already have such a gr8 income, and we all sow the benefits from where the taxes go as a whole And Donald Duck is way more relatable than Mickey Mouse, even though I loved both when I was a kid
Dynamite, invented by Alfred Nobel - used for a lot of good and bad unfortunately? How come a Scottish guy, living in Malaysia is making videos about Sweden? - asked the Swedish guy who used to live in Scotland and is married to a Scottish woman :) I find a lot of similarities between our countries - love Scotland. Best! /M
Yea Donald Duck is the No1 Disney charachter in Sweden, Mickey mouse is just a little sideshow, love Mickey Mouse but Donald Duck won our hearts i think

I think that Swedish people automatically like people from Scotland, Only other case is people from Finland, Can't say anything bad for those two countries, I think all Swedes like Scotts better than Danes.
First of all the video you looked at said that Finland is part of Scadinavia thats not so, it was a part of Sweden util 1809 when russia took it. You asked for what was interesting to know of Sweden. Its a Nordic country Thats 800 person from Scotland from well known families fought on the swedish side of the 30 year war. And one of them was my anfather and he came from your town Glasgow in the beginning of the 1600s
As a professional swedish chef for close to 40 years, I can tell you there is NO worchestersauce in traditional swedish meatball sauce. What a horrible idea, who the f*ck even came up with it?
Or nutmeg🙄.

"Bramble" is probably one of the best new games right now. It's based on Nordic folklore. 👍

And Lego Vs surstroming, I now which country wins.

Best thing about Stockholm is the summer. You can go swimming anywhere. There are beaches and boardwalks all over.

COOOLT
I have Nobel neighbour
Almost right, although he hadn’t yet innovated the dynamite, he was manufacturing nitro glycerin which is why most hated him, then one day his brother died in a accident and the media thought it was him, and published how he had died which was met with a cheering and happy public Alfred realizing how much people hated him sought out to produce safer forms of explosives and give away his fortune for good causes.
Alfred never saw the dynamite being used in wars,
The modern three point seat belt is high up there as far as inventions and pride goes.

Stockholms population are usually measured in metropolitan area which is 2,4 million people
Listen to a group called" SABATON" it is a group writing and singing about great huge old war seens around mostly Europe. You must listen and learn.
BTW Love your Glasgow accent 👍
As a music nerd I have to say how awesome we are at producing music.

I think Swedish politicians have done a good job, and no matter who's on top they always seem to get talked shit about X D
The 'nazi party' became pretty big, and I think it's a bit worrisome since they seem to be more anti problem than pro solution.
Uh, about the swedish meatballs... that is ONE way to do them. Not THE way.
And that is not the classic sauce.

Well one interesting fact about vikings is that they probably never wore the famous horned helmets. That helmet is most likely a fantasy product.

Not americans with Swedish heritage 😭❤️

York is heavily viking influenced and was originally named Jórvik by the vikings after their home in Scandinavia!
Yes, and the vikings they had in Scotland was mainly Norwegians although Danes was probably not uncommon in the southern parts.
At that time, there was no land _called "Norway," "Sweden"_ etc. These names come much later.
Well Technically the saxans come from North Germany, the place that rest of Germany call "half Denmark"
So the really the danes that fleed from.. the dane area to British island (that wouldn´t get that name until much later) moved the was finished about year 500, then other danes, attacked them around 750 and there was a low intensity war until 1016 when the Danes, the danes, the danes and the danes basically agreed on to stop fighting. (worth saying that the Anglo and the Saxons also didn´t like each other that much)
The reason for the Viking myth was that the Anglo-saxons asked for protection from the pope due to the prior Roman population at that time had contact with the Vatican still (The Vatican was sort of a post Roman empire communication service).

If you want to see some real Swedish influence look into the Wallenbergs... They own everything in Europe

Im swedish and i gatta say ballbarings must be the best invention. Stefan Löfven is the wors we ever had he is hated by 87% of the population
He is not. I neither liked or disliked him. The worst we’ve ever had is the current, Mr Kristersson.
You have to try the Swedish Friday taco if you come to Sverrige. It's the best in the world 👌
the Vikings of Sweden went east, the Danish vikings went south, and the Norwegian vikings went west, like Island, Scottland, - a bit rough said
To the east there were many trades with the rich Constantinople in viking times.
Was swedish vikings participating in the raids against England to get danegeld as its written on a runstone in Uppland. Yes
Stockholm is very spread out with suburbs going as far as 30km.
The Metro area is 2,4 millions (Glasgow 1,8)
The Urban 1,6 millions (Glasgow 0,63)
City itself 1,0 million (Glasgow 0,63)
So the urban area is considerably more people than Glasgow but the whole Metro or the City proper have just a bit more people than Glasgow.
While IKEA is originally from Sweden, nothing is made in Sweden and IKEA headquarters is in Netherlands.
I can tell you how Swe is now is the most dangerous country in the world.
I’ve never been afraid of being exposed to violence in Sweden, and I’ve lived in a rather poor suburb for 15 years (in a villlage on the countryside before that). Sweden is fairly safe for common people and tourists. If you want to experience danger, Sweden will disappoint you.
Everyone talks about the high taxes, like 57%. This is only for the very rich. I pay like 28% in salary tax.
You showed examples of Volvo as a car, but I see more often, all over the world in the news, Volvo excavators.
The 13th warrior is a great movie. If you havent seen it
there are not one recepie on swedish meatballs, there are probably one in every home that makes them. taxes are high but not that high.
Hört talas om den del av skatten som kallas arbetsgivaravgift? Så den totala inkomstskatten i Sverige ligger snarare nära 50%!
This is the first time i've heard of Jonna Jinton. Doesn't seem very famous to me.
Swedes don't mind paying higher taxes as they get higher income, it doesn't really affect ur way of life when u already have such a gr8 income, and we all sow the benefits from where the taxes go as a whole
And Donald Duck is way more relatable than Mickey Mouse, even though I loved both when I was a kid
Dynamite, invented by Alfred Nobel - used for a lot of good and bad unfortunately?
How come a Scottish guy, living in Malaysia is making videos about Sweden? - asked the Swedish guy who used to live in Scotland and is married to a Scottish woman :)
I find a lot of similarities between our countries - love Scotland.
Best! /M
Yea Donald Duck is the No1 Disney charachter in Sweden, Mickey mouse is just a little sideshow, love Mickey Mouse but Donald Duck won our hearts i think

Sweden may be famous for the easy music, but the biggest export is death metal..
About 25% new incomers to sweden without competene to fill, and without care for sweden. The result's are eyeblowing! Wouldn't You agree!!?
No.
First thing he said in the video you watched is wrong. Finland is NOT part of Scandinavia
Well we are still the only country that won both the WC and OG Hockey the same year and I believe we influenced you guys to try the same. It is not sure you guys can though lol Go Sweden Go
I think that Swedish people automatically like people from Scotland, Only other case is people from Finland, Can't say anything bad for those two countries, I think all Swedes like Scotts better than Danes.
First of all the video you looked at said that Finland is part of Scadinavia thats not so, it was a part of Sweden util 1809 when russia took it.
You asked for what was interesting to know of Sweden. Its a Nordic country
Thats 800 person from Scotland from well known families fought on the swedish side of the 30 year war. And one of them was my anfather and he came from your town Glasgow in the beginning of the 1600s
The school im going to is named by Carl Von Linne'.
