Went fishing on my local lake hoping to get a few trout on the fly but the trout weren't having it. Thankfully I had packed my spinning outfit and that turned out to be fortuitous. Caught a handful of Brown and Rainbow Trout.

I love your fly fishing definition: The art of making things more difficult than they need to be!
A video after my own heart! I am a hardware guy to the bone ... I love standing on the shore of a lake casting lures for trout, especially when I see powerbait guys watching me put on a clinic
looked super fun. good to scale back and just toss one rod out for a bit.
Very interesting video…I always find the opposite, trade the spinning gear for my fly rod and my catch rate goes way up! But definitely more pleasant fishing a spoon than fishing a fly rod in that wind!🎣 💨
“That’s breakfast right there boys” 😂😂😂 another great video!
I’ve been watching Tyler for a few years and that was the funniest thing he’s ever said 😂😂
Tip for all fly fishing: save indicators on lakes for when you are 65+ 😁
Never could get into fly fishing. I definitely respect it but honestly like 60% of the time I'm just throwing a kastmaster on a spinning rod. I started catching a lot of trout on a drop shot rig that I have set up for bass with a nose hooked perch colored shad minnow. Not what I was expecting but I guess it makes sense. lol I keep a rod and tackle in my vehicle. comes in handy more than you would think haha.
I'm a gold croc guy all day long
Tenkara is the way to get simple.
I live in Vegas but travel all over the western US to rodeo and to fish; I remember once in reno I was at the sparks marina and there were 4 families, combined about 20 people on the dock and they hadn't anything all morning. I get there and bust out my handy dandy panther martin and within 10 minutes I got a decent little rainbow. Never underestimate the power of a spoon
Panther Martin spoon????
@@williamchristy9436 yessir; gold and black, size 6, never fails.
@Redneckkratos I use those too but mine are the spinner model.
Fly fishing can catch a rainbow of fish species and all sizes if you present what they are used to on their menu, maybe something a little more sexy and irresistible to bite
What kind of spoon you tossing?
Tsurinoya 5gram
What is the reason for having "selective gear" lakes?
No idea in this lake as it is over stocked
Usually, the idea is for reduced take/mortality for either protecting a trophy fishery or help bring the population up.
I used to piss off the chironimid fly fishers off , as they were sitting there hunched up like old ladies knitting , teasing their lines in , I would troll arounnd them at a reasonable distance , dragging a black leach fly behind my canoe and catch fish after fish .The chironimid fishers would get maybe 1 or 2 fish in a morning and I would have my limit hooked and just let them go. Tomorrow we head off to the Cariboo in BC to catch some large kokanee. Be there a week. I hear you are going there this summer, when?
I was up to Dragon Lake a few times near Quesnel. Most was chironimid fishing, but in the wind the black Leech worked just fine.
Going to our acreage Sunday at Bridge lake up in the Cariboo.....we put 17 kokanee in the boat a month ago there 2 to 4.5 pounds and a. Couple big lakers 19 lb and 21.5lb
@@FarrahGerwing We had a place and acreage at Green lake for 50 years. Fished Bridge a few times. Mostly went in up via the old Egan Creek road to Monticolo lake
back before hwy 24 was built. Fished all that country north of hwy 24. Great fly fishing , now I concentrate on kokanee. Those 4 lb kokanee from Bridge Lake are absolutlely great, better than sockeye. Going to Ruth Lake tomorrow for a week.
Oooooohhhhh
For me fly fishing is just another tool in the toolbox. So many fly fishermen complain that Stillwater fishing is boring because of indicators. Put on a sink tip and pull streamers or leeches. More like fishing a spinner or spoon except you can suspend it whoever you want.
I do that sometimes but its a battle in the wind and tiresome on the arms.
@@spiltmilt agreed. I just had to laugh when you said it was boring. I hate indicator fishing too.
You going to get one of the EPDL Oldtown Kayaks?
No too expensive and I’m not a fan of the Bigwater hull
Spoon link doesnt work
A half and half dick nite or hotshot in cracked frog or black, with silver speckles trolled always puts fish in the boat when flies are getting ignored
Trolled by plenty of fish less chronomid guys anchored up and would get doubles
