She was with Blackground. Barry didn't even promote Aaliyah to her full potential. Aaliyah was just had a strong fan base that she always soared. But everyone at blackground complained about Promotion and downright bad business. I wish she had been with another label cause this album was amazing. But her health also was beginning to effect her around this time. But Toni is phenomenal regardless.
This entire album and the one before it (More Than a Woman) were IT. It’s a shame that whatever issues on the label/management side screwed everything over.
For More Than A Woman, she got pregnant around then and L.A. Reid (head of Arista and her former Co-Head of LaFace) gave her a hard time about promoting the album and didn’t take any of her ideas into account. Because of it, Arista didn’t promote the album the way they should’ve at that time. Barry Hankerson, head of Blackground, convinced Toni to leave Arista by promising her to do and give her the things that Arista wasn’t. Then she recorded Libra and Blackground paid her dust the way that Arista did. Her record labels did her REALLY dirty 2002-2006. She definitely should’ve had some top 10 hits on the Hot 100 and a few #1 R&B hits, but her music wasn’t being properly promoted by her labels.
I have 2 Christina Milian interviews. One on 106 and the other on TRL. She sang "Dip It Low" acapella in the TRL interview. I'll eventually add those too.
Toni know she looked good af. The public really paid her dust in 05 like she aint have these 2 bangers for them!!! RUDE 😂
Background records did her dirty
According to Wiki, the album still went Gold, which isn't bad. It probably would've went Platinum if her label promoted it more.
Un freaking grateful of us I feel partially responsible even though I was like 11😂
