  • Sunday 14th April 2024 was an auspicious day for Anstruther, with the arrival of the town's new Shannon class RNLI lifeboat, 13-47 RNLB Robert and Catherine Steen. The boat had motored all the way from Poole, departing on Wednesday the 10th, with overnight stops at Dover, Lowestoft, Whitby and Eyemouth on the long voyage home. Approaching Anstruther, the boat was flanked by neighbouring lifeboats from Dunbar, Broughty Ferry and Kinghorn. Upon entering the harbour, the boat was purposely grounded (although the reason for this was unclear. If anyone knows the reason for this let me know in the comments,) before being lifted out of the water by the impressive Shannon Launch And Recovery System (SLARS).
The new boat replaces a Mersey class lifeboat, 12-17 Kingdom of Fife. Anstruther is also home to a D class inshore lifeboat, D-802 Akira.
