I remember reading an article a few years back and Hawaii as a state was around #10 per capita at producing football talent. I can't remember if it was NFL or college D1 players but that tells you something right there.
@LukevannonVeez-qk9mo it's a public school. Only the people in the district that go to that school. It's also in a remote area so they rarely can get any transfers from other districts. On the other hand SJB is a private school and they can recruit.

I always say "iron sharpens iron." When Kahuku played Mater Dei before, they were exposed to a greater level of speed than what they normally experienced. That prepared them for Bosco. I wouldn't be surprised if Kahuku wins state.

Both the coaches were the top of the food chain in Hawaii and everybody wanted to play for them. Alot of kahukus players would play for st. louis or another ILH school. Now that they are gone, alot of players are staying at Kahuku. Also post covid has helped too as players arent leaving to the mainland anymore. Kahuku has a good chance to do well for the next few years.

LB Poly blew out Kahuku but the DLS/St. Louis game was fairly close, like 10 points. What I remember was DLS had some smaller linemen but they were so quick off the ball. I believe they had Maurice Jones-Drew at the time. Guess all good things must come to an end.
Crazy thing about Kahuku is that pretty much all the kids that are starters are from the Laie and Kahuku area, they not like Millilani and St. Louis recruiters.

Historically they kept about 35-50% of their top talent in their town as the others would be poached by the private schools in Hawaii. Now they're keeping 80% mostly because the top coaches at private schools have retired. It gives them a chance against top teams. Blows my mind that their team is all homgrown talent in a town with a couple thousand people.

Kahuku is one of the top 1-3 football schools in the state consistently year after year. Top public football school no doubt. They play hard and they play together, they don’t need to recruit out of state or out of island, they cultivate this year after year.
