Thank you for Reaction BAND MAID. BAND MAID is a 5-member girls rock band. They are hard rock band and are now considered by fans to be one of the best hard rock bands in the world. They usually perform 23 songs and 2 hours live. They were formed in Japan in 2013 by side guitarist Miku Kobato. Kobato had experience working at a maid cafe in Akihabara Tokyo and had the idea of playing cool songs with a maid costume. That's why the band was named Band-Maid. "Thrill" (Studio version ) was their first music video in 2014, played 2 million times in two weeks and saved them from breaking up. At that time they were just around 19-22 years old. And then they have been doing LIVE overseas and increasing their fans. Now they are writing, composing and arranging all the songs. 38songs have been released on their official UA-cam, all of which are killer songs.
★ Since last year, they have added English lyrics to the video, full text in Japanese and English in the description.
★ Kobato Miku's solo project "cluppo" started on April 1st in April Fool's Day! "PEACE & LOVE" released

She was the lead singer when the band was founded,
but since Saiki became the lead singer, she started playing the side guitar for the first time.
Saiki : Lead vocal, the youngest, member call her a teacher and she make various decisions. good at cooking
Kanami Tono : Lead guitar, composer (prolific genius), good at piano. hobby is reading. good at making sweets.
Akane Hirose : Drummer, good at funny faces, She is a big eater. She loves anime. She has a lot of friends.
Misa : Bassist, stage drinks are liquor, play with bare feet. She is the most shy and reticent. good at cooking

Was wondering when you would discover Band Maid! I did a year ago and have been hooked ever since. Dual vocals, extremely talented musicians, master lyricist and excellent compositions. Then throw in a genuine joy for performing and impeccable delivery. Play live comes to mind being the bass fan you are. Enjoy!

Freedom, Domination, Dice, Thrill are a few. Watch live versions if possible. Onset is an instrumental that rocks also.
MISA bass solo from pick to slap to pick to slap. It's hard to understand without slow playback, but it's magical.

@@patron40silver If you have ever crewed for anyone who goes a bit too far... I was lucky my challenges most often came from fans, or hangers on AND being a local band little risk of being stranded far from home if anything went sideways.

If you're a fan of really heavy gross and disgusting base lines, with great tone, this Girl is one of the best! I love how she curls the pick into her index finger when she slaps and pops. The switching is so fast, like sleight of hand.
It’s actually insane how well Misa is able to support the group while also standing out. I feel a lot of bands have bass lines that usually just follow the root notes in an eighth note fashion, and while there is nothing wrong with that, it can be a little underwhelming when trying to find something new.
Misa absolutely destroys the bass lines she creates, making them memorable and exciting. She also is able to these crazy lines into their songs, even if they seem really busy with a lot of other things going on.
On top of that, I feel that is a common them with Japanese bands, having memorable and interesting bass lines that are just different.
She’s like a magician. There’s a short video on their site where she shows how she does it. She’s so cool.

Misa's bass is very prominent in many band-maid songs. She almost leads in some songs. And they also have songs where drums stands out. And everyone knows Kanami is genius so... Goes without saying, but don't forget Saiki's vocal and Miku's harmonization and how they all complement each other.

Band-Maid has metal elements in a lot of their songs, along with hard rock, punk and pop, but no screamo. They are simply their own genre.

As others have mentioned, maybe because they don’t market themselves as a metal band. In fact they’ve specifically mentioned a few times that they are not a metal band, but they obviously incorporate many elements including metal ones into their music.

There’s no “right” song to introduce yourself to band maid....but you REALLLLY picked a great pairing :). Both songs were off their newest album but there’s a lot more. And yes Saiki the lead singer has the same teeth as you and they look super awesome 😎

DS, in case you don't know what "wabi-sabi" is that patron mentioned, it a Zen Buddhist teaching that, in very simple terms means accepting imperfection or, in yourself and Saiki's case, finding beauty in imperfection!!! In Japan, having extra teeth is an attractive trait to a point that adding extra teeth cosmetically is a common practice and since I'm half Japanese, I will definitely agree😉!!!👍👍🤘🤘🤘

They play a large variety of songs, ALL of them are good. I don't know if you were aware but NO GOD is actually a totally live on line performance. That's how they are live and in front of an audience they light it up. They do some softer things too but they're excellent also. Right now Band Maid is the best rock band on the planet. Misa (bass) is called "the barefoot assassin" because she doesn't wear shoes when playing. She also likes drinking whiskey and beer on stage and if you can listen to her she pretty much plays lead bass under the guitar lead most of the time. Akane (drums) is called "the gorilla" by her band mates. Miku (rhythm gtr) writes most of the lyrics and actually started the band and Kanami (gtr) writes and arranges most of the music with input from the other members. Saiki (vox) actually acts as quality control when they're creating new material. They all have a part, they all get their own times to shine. Watch FREEDOM live first and then DOMINATION LIVE. Well, watch anything, as I indicated, they don't have a bad song. I'm an old guy (approaching) seventy) and hadn't really paid much attention to rock at all because it was stale. When I discovered Band Maid years ago they blew my socks off and I haven't looked back. There are a number of other really good all female Japanese bands but Band Maid is the total package. A couple more songs and you'll be hooked forever.

@@thesilvershining if you watch them live and they gather around Akame (drums) they're actually goofing with her. They try to throw each other's timing off. In fact, if you watch audience recordings in small settings you'll really get a sense of how much they fool around and that they're really all friends. They're only all about 30/31 now and they started in 2013 so they were all fairly young when they started. Enjoy your journey of discovery.
@@topographic1973ify I find it so amusing that they can just go up to each other and mess around as if the world is their playground. It makes me enjoy seeing them perform so much more because it shows how much trust they have in not only themselves, but also in each other. It’s nice seeing them progress over the years, seeing them try and vary their style while still sticking to the maid thing.

I think warning and thrill live videos are a bit refined with post production but I remember that I was overjoyed that they nailed all the other songs from the new album, (including this. There's no post production for it, this is exactly how it sounded. ) they played onset and without holding back as well if I remember correctly. Pity that the live videos are not available (yet) 😢

THE best live Rock band in the solar system. Not just some girls in frocks. Two members (MISA - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained pianists and musicians who studied at the Tokyo Academy of Music while Kanami, the lead guitarist, has also been playing piano since the age of 3 or 4 but is concert standard (almost unbelievably, given her skills, she only switched to guitar about 10 years ago!) They all have superb musical ability as well as passion, a lack of ego and the drive to play real, in your face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Music they write themselves, real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals. They are all really close friends and know how to have fun together on stage, confident as they are in each others’ abilities and skills. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as Babymetal have done for Metal. Future reactions I'd recommend, as they really shine brightest live, would be from the DVD they released in April 2020. If you like bass... Then Band-Maid is super great for you, the bass is up-front in the B-M and always doing something awesome.
And about fang teeth (in Japan they called it yaeba teeth)... It's considered cute in Japan... I read even some go under dental procedures to make artificially because they didn't have it.
Maybe because the Wabi-Sabi philosophy: appreciating beauty that imperfect.

Wow! I loved your reaction to my favourite band. I've just turned 60 and have been going to gigs since I was 12, went to my first three day festival at the age of 14 and with a few notable exceptions I've seen pretty much all of the major rock acts since the 1970s - the exceptions being bands or artists who had either died or disbanded before I had a chance to see them perform (The Beatles, The Doors, Hendrix, Joplin, etc.) - and in my opinion Band Maid are easily the best band to have emerged over the past 40 odd years. They are five musical virtuosos who are incapable of writing a bad song and their unbelievably amazing chemistry together knocks spots off every other band I've seen in recent years. They've totally reignited my love of rock music and in my opinion they're the best rock band on the planet right now. Cheers from your new subscriber in the UK!

There’s only two things anyone ever needs to know about BAND-MAID:
1) if you randomly pick anything from their catalog, you stand about a 99% chance of having your mind blown.
2) while they rock in studio, they absolutely SLAP live.

It was so good to see you react to Band Maid! I remember your reaction to Babymetal "Death", one of the best reaction I had ever seen, I can't believe you had not listen to Band Maid, better late than never right? Band Maid has been around eight years now with the same line up, Miku, the back up singer and rhythm guitarist formed the band writes most of the lyrics, Kanami the lead guitarist writes most of the music, she also has been teaching Miku how to play the guitar, Akane is the drummer and is one of the best with her fills and change of pace, Misa plays the bass, she has a great ability to switch from picking to plucking or slapping the Bass. Saiki the lead singer was recruited by Miku to be the lead singer. What a great band, with many musical influences but at the heart of it all they are a rock band. They even have done some really good ballads like "About Us" which is pretty much a love letter to their fans showing how much they miss them because of this covid situation.
Normally I recommend live music from Band Maid like "Real Existence" or "Domination", anything from Band Maid you can find from their youtube site, knowing your taste you probably also like their music video "Rinne"...
I am sorry to hear about you getting bullied, I got bullied too, actually I have the same darn teeth, lol. I hate to say it because as a rule of thumb I am not a violent person but a bully is a bully until someone punches him in the face, that comes from personal experience... There is nothing wrong with your smile, it is beautiful like it is. I have seen reactors, especially beautiful lady reactors, with NICE STRAIGHT PERFECT TEETH say they loved Saiki's smile and her teeth. One thing I know about Band Maid, they never had any bad song, so far,
Saiki is the lead singer, and yes, she has the "double-toothed" prominent canines. It is considered a mark of beauty among many Japanese. The Band-Maid faithful have seen the occasional bully comment on her teeth and make fun of them, so we know a little of what you are talking about.
Not really a mark of beauty but was considered a cute thing in the late 2000s with young people, not anymore sadly.

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. G'day Deadgrl. So happy you caught up with Band Maid, and a few rippers to start with. So much more to see - seven albums and a bunch of recorded concerts. To start lots of feel good live like 'Domination (live)', more bass in 'Dice', heavy riffs in 'Rinne' and 'Real Existence (live)'. Throw in a great ballad 'Daydreaming'. By the way both you and Saiki have great smiles - looking forward to seeing more of both.

Not the worst 2 songs to get pulled into the pigeon-hole of Band-Maid. :) But I just dare to say that these ladies will definitely surprise you a few more times on this journey. Not for nothing are they considered by many out there (yes, that includes me too) to be the best thing that could have happened to the rock genre in decades.
Since I didn't miss the comment that your ears are 'slightly' bass oriented, I'll just throw the song names 'Onset' and 'Wonderland' into the mix as a recommendation. :)

Welcome to the world of Band-Maid. Their music is truly incredible and I hope you continue listening to more. Their more recent videos all have captions on them if you ever want to check out what they're saying. Miku on rhythm guitar writes most of their lyrics and she's a real poet. She was also the one who thought to form the band, so we all owe her a debt for managing to bring all these ladies together. Usually for early listens I recommend the live video for "Domination" or the live video for "Real Existence", both on their channel.
Welcome to the party! 🎼 Band Maid is indeed an amazing band and their videos live are great, but some of the their best performances are MV. The song "Daydreaming" is a MV that is a slower song and quite beautiful and the MV "Warning" which you just watched is also superior to the live Okyu-ji version they have recently put out. It's a matter of which format serves the song best - sometimes it'll be live, other times a well recorded MV (sometimes of a live show). Great reaction and looking forward to more •°. 🕊️____ PO!

Misa has often often been compared to Les Claypool, but honestly I think Misa is better.. If you like bass, then Band-Maid is for you.
MISA is badass on the bass, she is great. But you really need to watch more of Les Claypool if you are seriously comparing the two

I'm not a Les fanboy, I'm a reasonable human being, I like Band-Maid but I can admit when someone is better at something. Saying MISA is better than Les is not a opinion because there are objective ways to measure how good someone is at playing an instrument.
What I said was that MISA is great but comparing her with someone like Les Claypool can only come out of ignorance knowing how different their playing style.
As a solo bassist Les Claypool has more experience than Misa and you can't really deny that. That's not taking away anything from MISA.
MISA is the best bassist I've ever seen/heard. Just an amazing talent (& hella cute too) ;)

My 3 favourite Band-Maid performances are "Real Existence" live at the Zepp and "Play" and "Domination" both live at Line Cube Shibuya. I love their music videos, but their live performances are another level!

Thank you for reacting to the band that many of us think is the flat out best hard rock band in the world - period! These ladies can flat out play, and their songwriting skills are ridiculous. Here's the thing - you still haven't gotten the full scope of what they can do. Lucky you! You heard two fast-paced recent songs of theirs, but they have mid-tempo hard rockers, heavy grooves, ballads, power ballads with jaw-dropping guitar solos, and they just don't care about "genre." And - they will slap a face splitting grin on you every time - for years - 3 so far and no letting up for me. My advice is to go back to their early stuff and make your way through (for your own enjoyment), and for a next reaction I'd do Domination Live, Onset, Daydreaming for your power ballad, Blooming MV, Choose Me (Live version), Real Existence (Live version) and Manners MV. Then, you'll have some idea of just what these ladies can't do - and that's....nothing.
You are totally in for a wild ride.

There is no stage that is too big for them. In fact, the bigger the stage and production, the better they sound. You need to check them out live with an audience. The song Domination comes to mind.

I loved your reaction. Thank you so much for that, and thank you for spreading the love for Band-Maid. They are saving rock music. My favourite track of theirs is 'Manners'. It's not as fast-paced as 'Warning' - more bluesy / jazzy, but still rocks and it has some interesting quirks.
I read in an interview with the bassist, MISA, that she wanted to be the best bassist she could ever be. To paraphrase her, when people ever thought about bass, she wanted them to think about her. So far, she's doing a great job. Everyone I read who tals about this band is raving about her bass playing.

If people need to pick on others because they feel bad about themselves, and don't have any other way to lift themselves up, they will just try to bring others down, so they will focus on anything that gets them a reaction, whether it's real or not. You're beautiful and passionate and real, so stay true and ignore the haters. Their opinions count for nothing. Their insults are more a reflection on how they feel about themselves than how they feel about you. I was bullied all through school too, so I know how it feels.

Pretty much any Band-Maid song is a good pick to get into them tbh. 'Warning' is definitely "Akane-47" song, she's a beast on the drums!
