wouldn’t say that the weird mori-dazai stuff is needed here, but there’s definitely some things missing (abuse cycle, dazai’s philosophy, skk duo, lupin trio, “be on the side that saves people”, and prison arc). and mori also 100% traumatized him, like he made dazai a mafia executive at 16 (and ik he was messed up in the head before the mafia, but it’s not like living in a crime syndicate did him any good) and pretty much ordered oda’s death.

@@tamicatt yes i did indeed write that dazai was traumatized before mori. i don’t think i mentioned anywhere that everything is mori’s fault? dazai traumatized akutagawa, and he’s definitely to blame for that, but mori isn’t innocent here either. he took a suicidal fourteen year-old and made him an assassination witness, then proceeded to have him carry out horrible acts of violence for the mafia. maybe dazai did all of it happily and with no protest, but that doesn’t erase the fact that mori exploited a literal child’s unstable mind. And im not saying he’s pure evil for that either. That’s his entire character: ruthlessly rational and will do anything as long as the situation demands it. I personally don’t believe that mori ever hurt dazai physically in any way, or even really ever verbally abused him, but his decision to have so many traumatized children in his organization is certainly morally questionable. Dazai could have chosen to not hurt aku, but with how rational he is (not unlike mori), he decided that violence was the optimal solution. He, of course, is largely at fault for Aku’s treatment, but there is the aspect that he lives in the mafia, which might have given him the idea of beating aku that may not have occurred otherwise. Though again, he’s definitely the one most to blame for akutagawa. And akutagawa could have chosen to treat kyouka better, but he didn’t. Part of his behaviour can be attributed to his own experiences, but that doesn’t change the fact that he chose to perpetuate the violence instead of stopping it. Both aku and dazai made their own decisions, which they are personally responsible for, but every decision is always influenced by both internal and external factors. They both chose violence, but that choice was at least in part influenced by what they experienced from their respective mentors. About the pedophile thing, I didn’t say anything about that either. In fact, i doubt that he’s an actual pedophile in the series. An extreme lolicon maybe, but not a sexual deviant. I don’t think Asagiri would write a famous author as an actual pedophile. He might’ve written most of the characters as murderers, but considering bsd contains a lot of action, that’s only to be expected. And if he is a pedophile, i still didn’t blame him for anything because of that. He can be a pedophile and not be blamed for every bad thing in the series, and i think the people who see him as the pinnacle of evil have a deep misunderstanding of the story and his character. About yosano. Who cares if it was intentional or not? Mori, as an adult, dragged an eleven year-old child onto the frontlines and it destroyed her psychologically to the point where she ended up unresponsive in a psych ward. And even then, he was fully intending on making her continue working for him to defeat the old mafia boss. He’d seen the consequences of his actions, yet did not hesitate to hurt her more. This ties in, again, with the rational part of his character. He’s willing to commit horrible atrocities as long as the gains outweigh the losses, and here, they do. And there’s no way he couldn’t tell how much yosano’s mental state was deteriorating in the war, not with how smart he is. Which means that yosano’s experiences and trauma were, at the very least, partially intentional. Does this mean everything else is his fault too? No. He’s certainly to blame for yosano’s trauma, but not for “all the sins of the world of BSD”. He did bad things, and that’s that. Just like how dazai has done bad things, how akutagawa has done bad things, how kunikida, fukuzawa, chuuya, fyodor, ranpo, yosano, and, hell, even kenji have done bad things. Bsd is incredibly character driven and there’s no singular big bad villain, and that’s what makes it so interesting to me. Everyone has their own goals and motivations, their own rights and wrongs, which means the blame for everything bad never falls onto any one person, or even any one group of people in particular.
