Oh wow, that last scene was so messed up. 😨 We're so curious to know what makes those people so obedient and emotionless.

Information: Due to the passion for education in Korean society, it is said to be more difficult for a Korean to get into Seoul National University than for an American to get into Harvard University.

The candy named dalgona, it is a hard candy kind of like lollipop, it is common candy for kids in korea and if you can carve it perfectly the seller will give you another one for free

There is a reason why Ki-hoon praises Sang-woo. It may be difficult to understand from a Western perspective. This is especially true in Asian cultures where collectivist sentiments are stronger. Ki-hoon and Sang-woo's hometown, Ssangmun-dong, is a poor village on the outskirts. When a place like that produces a talented person from a top prestigious university, the villagers hold a festival and are proud of him, which also has a positive impact on the image of the village :D

Sangmoon-dong is actually NOT a village, it's one of the Dongs (common designation of neighborhoods / regions) within the city of Seoul, administratively, legally, etc.; it's a working-class neighborhood with a good number of stand-alone houses with blue-collar residents (over there, high-rise luxury apartments have the upper hand in terms of flaunting your wealth over houses, unless of course it's mansion like high-end houses you see in Parasite...)
As for getting into / being a graduate of Seoul National University (their equivalent of Harvard), regardless of metropolitan, suburban or rural regional standing, any high school, cities / towns / villages throughout the country (btw S. Korea is about 1/3 the size of California) will more or less have it known that they produced an SNU graduate and high schools will hang banners making such announcements upon learning one of the students made it into SNU, etc.; small rural villages may hold parties / festivities collectively when a high schooler gets accepted into SNU from their towns but it's NOT a 'festival' per se and while it would be a point of pride for the villagers, having a positive impact, image-wise for the village itself, that's a little off as Seoul residents or any other bigger city residents will not all of a sudden stop turning their noses up towards hole in the wall villages just because someone from there went to SNU, it would just be the 'villagers being proud' of one of their SNU alumni sons/daughters as I said.
Anyways, I'm Korean, born & raised in Seoul so just wanted to provide a more accurate input as foreigners who either studied or lived there for a bit (or even just K content watchers) tend to offer a sliver of experiences / observations through their lens / POV.

If financially desperate individuals are more likely to commit crimes or voluntarily disappear, then offering them an opportunity to participate in Squid Game benefits society.
