I am very new to any type of wood working seen you description of the making of this sled twice. It is marvellous explanation and have just made one for my self. You should give us the benefit of your experience and make more videos to show how to make more jigs for segmenting turning. Thank you very much for your time and valuable experience.

Tarek, thanks for the kind comments. Jerry and I are working on a new video that some new updates on the Wedgie sled. It will be posted here and on Jerry's site when it has been uploaded. Unfortunately, it will not be until early summer.
Completed the sled from the instructions here and got the wedgies from seg easy and just completed a 16 piece test on 1 1/2 pine and it came out PERFECT!! My wife is thinking backers for her Christmas wreaths and picture frames for the grandchildren and I am thinking of all the bowl patterns I can do. It is so easy but now I think I have to go back to the earlier videos to see if there is a way to calculate the ring circumference from the width of the wood and the distance from the blade, etc. I am going to have a lot of fun with this!

Sorry for the delay in answering. For some treason I am seeing earlier posts that I did not see before. Regarding a video on the oil filter, unlike a lot of people that post, I seldom post. as you can see. I do not plan to do a video on the filter, as I have not had much interest on it. Thanks for asking tho.

can the space between rail be wider to use large or wider boards
on the pivot end i think 1/4 20 inserts would have worked

I would like some clarification. 70 mm is about 2.75 inches. You said we could go as high as 1.5 inches. What did I mess?

Mike, sorry for the log delay in responding. For some reason, I could not respond and just got it fixed. Regarding my 70 mm comment, I was wrong. The knobs are 30 mm. Seems like no matter how many time I review a video, something wrong always slips through. The reason for the limited size is to prevent the saw blade from cutting the knob. If they are tall enough and the segment is low enough it is not a problem. Thanks for the catch.

Thank you for your response. I sort of figured out why the restriction. I found my knobs at Lowes and they were an inch and a quarter in diameter. I have made my sled and ordered my wedges. Allis well. Thank you.BTW the video is very good, thank you.
making the sled is straight forward,but buying the segments in the uk is a no go,can i get them anywhere in the u,k???

I just sent an e-mail to Jerry about the availability in the UK. I know he has someone there that sells his open segment templates, so it may be possible. I'll post as soon as I hear back from him. Worst case, I'll see him a week from Saturday.

Jerry just responded that the turner in the UK who sold his products no longer is doing segmented turning (working on wooden clocks instead). Jerry said if you click the "Add to Cart button" and then in the PayPal window the "Send outside the US" link, the top option in the drop down box is United Kingdom. Hope this helps.

I saw a Shopsmith a long time ago, but can't remember if there would be any problems making a Wedgie sled for one. I suspect that it will work just fine as long as the miter slot guide is installed accurately on the bottom of the sled. Use the fence as shown in the video and it should work OK. Of course, the Wedgies don't care what kind of saw is used as long as the sled doesn't wobble in the miter guide. If you have any problems, post them here and I'll try to answer them.

How would you cut COMPOUND MITER SEGMENT ????????????

Jerry and I have been looking at a Wedgie for compound segments. Unfortunately that is more like a two dimensional problem, whereas the Wedgie sled is a one dimensional design. However, if you are making a cylinder using staves, which does not require a compound angle cut, the back end of the Wedgie is the correct angle to set your blade at. Just make sure the Wedgie is perpendicular to the saw blade or the angle will be incorrect. Nothing to do with cutting segments for a ring, just an interesting fact.
