Killabilly from Lollipop Chainsaw. Final boss, takes a super long time to reduce his health (twice IIRC), and once it's empty, you have one final succession of QTEs. Press the wrong button? Whoops, you died! Back to the start!
Kha'Beleth, the final boss of the vanilla Heroes of Might and Magic V story mode - you have to fight him as four separate heroes twice each for a total of 8 battles - once to break his shield with siege weapons (which can take up to several turns), and again to finish him off for good. Meanwhile, he has insane stats that make his army stupidly powerful, throws a ton of troops at you and constantly cast free spells that chip away at your entire armies every turn. Good luck winning if even one of the four heroes you fight him as has a weak build and stats. And if you do, you pretty much have to restart their entire portion of the campaign to bring them to the required level of power to keep up with him.
"You think Sephiroth has a lot of HP? You thought wrong. Yiazmat from Final Fantasy XII has much more than Sephiroth. Do you know how long it took me to beat this boss? Four hours. FOUR. F**KING. HOURS!" Best line from the original list
If you don't count a specific version of Chaos Aeronite from Lightning Returns (and of course some of the mobile/f2p games like FFBE and the MMOs) Yiazmat has more HP than any other square enix enemy.....
@@jaketaller8567 I am aware of that as a long-time viewer of the channel and I disagree with him there. To me the only difference between Screwball and him is the former constantly spouts internet references while Riddler does not. They are still intentionally insufferable and arrogant which gets grating on me after a while. The main issue which extends specifically to Arkham Riddler is he lacks the sporting attitude of someone who sees Batman as an intellectual equal that he does in the comics.
And then there's Punchline, a "more evil Harley Quinn" that's also an influencer, she got named dropped in Arkahm Knights and now the dread of her being like a DC's Screwball is....sigh..
@@franknova987 Social Media and superhero stories don’t mix in the large doses they are trying to make them. It works for a quick gag like Riddler trying to start a scandal about Batman only to find even the worst trolls wouldn’t help him, but not having a character focused around it.
Fun fact about Knight in Sonic Frontiers: The shield surf can be completely avoided and is a punishment for not sidestepping around the shield while he blocks
Not only does that completely avoid the section, but it also saves a lot of time in the fight, especially if you’re trying to go for a fast time in the Battle Rush Mode.
That's kinda just it, the bosses are actually quite well designed in that you can use some mechanics to GREATLY shorten the fight time. Only issue with any of them was when "perfect parry" became a thing, but that's been slightly patched
Oh dang. So you're telling me I was able to dodge a boss mechanic by dodging a boss mechanic? Because when I fought the Knight I completely avoided hitting the shield because - well - it is a shield, I wasn't exactly gonna damage the boss by doing that. However, if I knew that they'd designed it so hitting the shield would do something more than deal-no-damage, as annoying as it may be, I would have at least tried it once.
Anyone who put up with Screwball’s excessive use of “PHOTOBOMB” during all of her missions and boss fight just to get those DLC trophies for both tasks (PS4 and/or PS5), you have my full respect and condolences; cause I barely managed said achievements!
I not even sure why I did it. I was so done after the first DLC set. And I'm not a completionist! I guess I loved the game more than I wanted to slam my head thru a table every time she said 'photobomb.'
In the days of the GameCube, we had the first Spider-Man game based on the movie and the vulture fight was eerily similar to screwball And that was significantly better than screwball since vulture was better as a boss fight and didn’t move and 120mph
I did it. Wanna know my secret weapon? The mute button on my TV. Made things bearable. Not good. Bearable. I still hate Screwball and I hope she never returns
I agree. I never fully understood why the Kirby community hates Pyribbit so much, since I never found him that obnoxious. Even with the background-hopping, the fight still only takes a couple minutes at most, which isn't horrible for the kind of game Kirby is. I could understand finding him frustrating in the Kirby Clash games since in those you're under a time limit, which makes the waiting periods more bothersome, but in Triple Deluxe, he's a fine boss in my opinion. Then again, I never struggled that much in Triple Deluxe's arenas, so maybe that explains why Pyribbit never really got under my skin much (because I'm not fighting him repeatedly across a bunch of attempts).
@@C_Arson Majority of Kirby Bosses have a decent balance of switching between foreground and background. Pyribbit on the other hand abuses this by staying in the back for most of the battle. In the case of Kirby Clash, at least you can cheese it with Beam Mage's Time Beam.
So, the first Top 10 Annoying Bosses was the first video you made that I watched, and I subscribed to the channel instantly. Years later and here I am, still having fun with your content. Thanks for that, Josh.
I'm honestly surprised to see the Knight from Frontiers make it in honorable mentions. Surfing on the shield can be annoying, but I definitely don't think its as annoying as it comes when it comes to Sonic bosses. Although funnily enough on the latest update they added a prompt that teaches you how you can move past the shield and skip the shield surfing entirely.
@@luigiboi4244 Basically when you hit the shield the button to dodge will come up now letting you lock on to the Knight instead of the shield. It's the same way you beat the end in the dlc. Though weirdly enough the prompt doesn't come up in the End's fight where it's more vital to beating the boss.
I would agree with it, not due to the boss fight itself, but because I can't get past the first meeting with the Knight where you have to run on the squid trail while dodging the shield. There's one part where you have to land on the platforms above where the buzzsaw launches or you automatically die and I CANNOT MAKE THAT JUMP. Therefore, I can't make any more progress in the game. And I've tried that part over 10 times and have grinded the fishing game to increase my speed and defense to see if that would help at all.
The ruler of the skies gets worst in 358/2 day's challenge mode as the condition is to use as few attacks as possible meaning you better be good with magic if you want to fully complete the challenge mode version.
Crown of Guilt++, lots of Fire Lv.5 Magic casts, and Elixirs equipped before taking this mission on. One thing that 358/2 Days made me appreciate is going in prepared before I did anything in Kingdom Hearts.
Fun Fact: Gate’s voice actor, Keiji Fujiwara would later voice Mewtwo in Super Smash Bros 4 and Ultimate. Sadly, he passed away on April 12, 2020 because of cancer.
22:40 you forgot to mention that if your playing as X in the shadow armor there’s a nearly impossible jump shortly after the high max fight which you will likely have to restart the stage and change armors to actually make
@@ridjenitenope. that jump requires a perfectly lined up wall jump, a frame perfect saber swing followed instantly by a giga crush and a second saber swing to actually make with the shadow armor
So, where it's going is you'll have an easier time with Zero, heaven forbid there's a giant crusher that requires you to constantly wall jump underneath it over a bottomless pit. It's the fact the whole game is so unbalanced that I consider its events as just a dream by Zero some time *after* X8, and the fact Zero's ending serves as a tie in to MegaMan Zero, that only makes it easier to consider that.
Any additional thoughts I have to give: 10) Shout-outs to the fact that the 3rd fight is already part of a Boss Rush where you're refighting a bunch of the game's other bosses as well 9) If I remember correctly, Moldorm is a lot tamer in Link Between Worlds since falling doesn't reset its HP. Kinda makes falling more of a pointless annoyance compared to an excruciating one. Also surprised to hear no mention of his Link's Awakening counterpart since I heard he's actually quite bad in that game too, especially since he's the FIRST boss instead of the third 8) Triple Deluxe in general is pretty guilty of bosses hiding in the background, but yeah, Pyribbit is definitely the worst of them. ... 2) Honestly, as infuriating as High Max can be, it's not too hard to cheese him if you know what to do. Gate, on the other hand, doesn't offer such luxury. Also, shout-outs to the fact that if you wasted your Sub-Tanks and Life Recover against Gate (or worse, you wasted your Life Recover against High Max not knowing the stage wasn't done yet) only to be knocked into a pit, you have to start the fight over with NONE of those unless you wanna redo the WHOLE STAGE again. It's also especially sad how the Sigma fight afterward is a complete joke by comparison HMs) For Raikou & Entei (and Suicune), I wanna give special mention to their appearance in FRLG, where do to an oversight, if they use Roar on you, the game is tricked into thinking they fainted, meaning they're completely gone unless you reload your save. 1) ...This is literally my first time hearing about Screwball... period. I never knew she existed before this. Huh...
23:37 You can skip it by dodging to the right when attacking the shield, as you'll target the head afterwards. The Boss Rush in Final Horizon even puts a prompt to teach you that so that you'll know you can do that.
Major correction regarding Link Between Worlds Moldorm: Unlike its Link to the Past counterpart, the damage you dealt to the boss IS saved if you end up falling, so while still annoying, it's not as bad.
Duke and the secret boss in tales of vesperia. You work hard to get the arms only for them to not work AFTER you beat the boss who unlocks their full use. That's like beating the game 100 percent and not being able to use all your power on the last boss. Super guard bosses that don't fall no matter how much you hit them. Quick time events that end your entire game run. The Valkyrie from god of war. Not hard just annoying
i really despise bosses like that Metroid one, where not only can they only be hurt by hitting a specific weak spot, but the spot is covered most of the time! there are a few bosses way back in "Super Metroid" that can only be hurt that can only be hurt by firing a rocket RIGHT down their throats, but at least THEY don't JUMP around like crazy!
@@ridjenite oh yeah he was awful. So bad I had to grind so it went from annoying to too easy. His level 100 version was fun when you actually have a full team
I… guess Knight’s shield segment could be annoying, but I only ever had to go through it once each fight, and after learning you can sidestep his shield, never at all.
@@ThatGuyfromBrazil Yep, if you strike it once then dodge to the right (that way you don’t hit it enough to trigger the cinematic), you’ll sidestep it and be able to hit him head on instead of having to go through the shield surfing.
Its been theorized by many that the only reason Screwball is even in the first game is because the comic writer who conceptualized her was one of the writers for the game.
Something to note: The morph ball actually *can* jump without using bombs in Metroid Prime 3, at least in the Wii version, by flicking the Wii remote upwards. The standalone game and the Trilogy for the Wii both feature this, but I'm not too sure if the Switch version also has it. The Wii version of the Trilogy also adds this feature to the first two games, making some of the puzzles in Prime 2 MUCH easier to work around as a result. Again, dunno if it's in the Switch version, though.
One I would have had was (Spoilers for Xenoblade Chronicles 1) Disciple Lorithia She has insane def buffs when her nebulae are on the field (and she can spawn more), can confuse your party into ealkingvinto the puddles of Ether (aka Magic Poison) around the arena, and resists physical attacks. Amd every 5 seconds you'll hear "You'll pay for yiur insolence!"
And let's all take a moment to acknowledge that the Nebulas never returned as an enemy for the rest of the Xenoblade series. Not only are they the classic case of "screw you out of EXP by blowing up", but they're also serious damage sponges, which means if they try to blow themselves up, they will very likely succeed because you aren't able to kill them quick enough. You ask the Xenoblade fanbase who they despise the most, 9 out of 10 times, they will say Lorithia. Even ChuggaaConroy, possibly the biggest diehard Xenoblade fan, utterly resents her. Honestly, I'm wondering if her boss fight was made bad on purpose, just to make her that much easier to hate.
Can confirm. While there are arguably more annoying fights in the series, Lorithia's is the worst for all that and the fact that the ideal way to fight her is to either grind 5-10 levels above her lvl...OOOOR...fight her as Melia, the squishy wizard of the group. Sure, you can find ways to make her NOT squishy, but in so doing you're kinda not optimizing her DPS potential, which, in some setups, can be RIDICULOUSLY overpowered: I remember seeing a video of someone who set up a chain attack with her in the party where they felled Avalanche Abaasy with her flame elemental's residual burn damage and Dunban's bleed damage...freaking MELTED the STRONGEST SUPERBOSS IN THE GAME!! But yeah, much as I found certain bosses like Jin, Amalthus, Malos, Tainted Sphinx, Vita, Metal Face, Jade Face, etc. rather annoying to fight, they were at least decently challenging. Key word: challenge. Lorithia isn't challenging, she's just an annoyingly difficult boss fight following on from a character who I honestly couldn't give two shits about because we know diddly-prick about her aside from how much she wants us to pay for our insolence (her and Flame Hyenard must be drinking buddies when they're off the clock). >.>
You'll pay for your insolence You will allocate recompense for your meddling. You, the entity I recognize as an enemy, shall be forced to reconsider your position by figuratively reallocating funds in order to make up for any transgression that was caused by your unwanted intrusion in our plans.
I'm playing P5 Royal for the first time and had to take a break after multiple hours failing against the Okumura Palace Boss. Seeing you rage about other bosses has been very therapeutic! ^_^
I watched your videos when I was a teenager, all that time ago. I remember first watching that original video. It's kind of comforting knowing that it hasn't changed fundamentally in so long.
R.e. NMH2… Actually, not doing the full combo is kind of important for almost every boss in this game - especially those that come later on. Because if you persist the combo after a certain point, the boss will perfect dodge all following attacks in the combo every time. Fortunately, it’s consistent at which point they dodge. So just learn when they dodge and *don’t combo for that long.*
Two things. 1: Okurmura from Persona 5. 2: There is a reason that one of my favorite panels from Dan Slot’s run is Superior Spider-Man having beaten Screwball half to death
Ugh... I had repressed Okumura from memory until now. And I played the Royal version, which is arguably even more obnoxious, they made the types you need to deal with the minions a bit more diverse.
@@AhstTraotee On top of the fact that the minions will refresh themselves if you don't kill them quick enough. All the other bosses were actually made more fun to fight.
I played through Royal and it took me three tries to beat Okumura… twice I reset because I got REALLY jumpy about losing time while stuck on the last robot
You know when i saw Gate from Megaman X6 on here i thought " Oh yeah I definitely agree hes worse than hyenard." But then I saw he was only #2. When I saw #1 oh man I couldn't agree more than she was the perfect choice for the most annoying boss. Won't stop talking, annoying challenges, and her "boss fight" is an annoying chase that you have to be fast, perfect and dont miss the photo bombs. Yeah "screw" that boss!!!!
hey, i remembered your stuff exists a couple weeks ago, glad to see you're still active, here's some engagement: #9: i still get knocked into that damn pit from time to time. #3: i think the second phase is SLIGHTLY better because he has more openings where he isn't running away. still hate this boss. #2: i think buebeam is worse because you can run out of crash ammo and be screwed into throwing all your lives away
I think a good follow up to this list is Top 10 Cheapest Fighting Game bosses It was a Collab idea that Quarter Guy did several years ago but I'd love to see a modern take on that list
For New Destroymen, there is a cheese were you go behind a container were I believe the melee one fallows you over, they have a set area that they are locked to, and they don't overlap, meaning that if you take out the one New Destroyman in the corner, the others pathing will not allow it to reach the other to revive. The container also blocks the ranged New Destroyman's attacks, meaning all you have to do is be careful not to have Shinobu taunt as she disembowels the one in the corner in earshot of the other, but out their range to do anything about it. This is a tactic that I saw some people do on a LP/Walkthrough years ago.
So on your segment of the Ruler of the Sky remember Xemnas set up this system! He also through Siax assigned Roxas this monster! Also his ultimate goal of the game is to keep Sora in a coma forever so he can’t screw with his ascension to Godhod or Omnicide Oh holy crap with this man child extremely Bitter that Sora took out his Heartless
23:35 you can actually skip that section entirely by pressing the left/right dodge when attacking knights shield. when he starts rapidly changing direction while you can only aim the buzzsaw in about a 70* angle and cant tell because time is slowed down is not skippable.
"Oh, remember the hole in the floor? Yeah, if you're super unlucky you end up plummeting right through it to the next floor down, oh, and if you are DOUBLE unlucky down an extra floor you go! So you gotta climb AAALLL the way up the tower recollect hearts and all the DAMAGE THAT YOU DID TO THE STUPID WORM IS RESET!" and "Eating up your process AGAIN!!" I laughed my butt off at that! Hahahaha! 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😆😆😆😆😆
The old annoying bosses countdown is 13 years old? Excuse me while I pop my back into place and get my walker. I was still in *elementary school* when that list first came out and I watched it for the first time, and now I'm nearly done with college. Time flies.
Wow I’m kinda surprised there isn’t a single Atlus boss on here. Between Persona, SMT, and the Etrian Odyssey games there’s so many absolutely horrible bosses that have things you’ve complained about. Status effect spam? Series stable. Inflicting random statuses including instant death? Multiple bosses in some games. Berserk buttons for trying to cheese them or even just buff up? Oh absolutely. The single worse example I can think of is the secret final boss of EO3. After a certain point in the fight IT STARTS READING YOUR IMPUTS AND COUNTERS THEM!!!
When you brought up Kirby in the list, I expected Goriath and/or Hydriath (hated every version of that boss with a passion!) or the Rampaging Doomers to be on here. But then you reminded me of Pyribbit... I didn't have an issue with him, when I played Triple Deluxe at first, but HAL decided to really test my patience by putting him in the Kirby Clash games! Even having 4 beam mages is barely enough to clear in 40 seconds, unless maybe your attack stat is maxed out. And FYI, that attack stat (for beam mages at least) RARELY gets raised from each level up.
One of mine is the Time Empress from CrisTales. She has a stupidly stron regen she can cast freely on herself. In most cases, you can only just barely outdamage the amount it heals between her turns. You have to use Cris' reset ability to change TE's status to the way it was her past turn. Which, while it removes the regen, it also setsbher HP back to the previous turn. So she still ends up healed, just less than the Regen. It becomes a battle of attrition while you whittle her health down and reset each time she recasts the regen. Oh yeah, and her favorite attack drips a single party member to 1 hp, and if you havent used the haste spell you will more than likely lose them to a party-wide attack before you can heal them.
yeah that fight was brutal my run. Good news is that when I was looking at one of the patches, they actually nerfed her so she has a limited amount of regen casts
Barely a minute in and already the biggest bosses that meet the criteria in my eyes are literally ALL of the Noble Pokémon boss fights from Pokémon Legends Arceus.
It’s probably worth noting that if you’re playing X6 on the Legacy Collection you can actually make the fight with gate easier by turning the difficulty to rookie hunter mode which removes the bottomless pit completely. That said though it doesn’t remove the annoyance of the original battle.
Yeah, I got so frustrated with Gate that I actually had to do just that. And I feel no shame whatsoever, because, to quote SomecallmeJohnny "This game cheats, so I cheat back"
@@JoshioE110 It does, but that doesn't alleviate the frustration of this fight. Plus, if you happen to be in the same space as that platform when it reappears, it counts as being crushed.
Honestly I wish screw ball had an actual fight after her chase so that way I could make her pay for the mental damage she put not just me, but literally every Spider-Man gamer out their in the world
Delirium from The Binding of Isaac is super annoying with not only a crap ton of random projectiles all over the place but it also randomly changes behaviour and randomly teleports around and Delirium has boss armour meaning your damage is reduced forcing the fight to take even longer even if you are over powered, I rarely ever even die to Delirium because 9 times out of 10 I'm OP enough to survive or kill it moderately fast but when it teleports on top of you out of nowhere for cheap damage it just pisses you off
Josh: Insufferable or Repetitive dialogue Me: *Thinking back to Arin's impression of Eggman saying "Take This" over and over again during a boss fight*
Borderlands 2, Badassasaurus Rex. A giant robot dinosaur with bullet reflecting armor on 90% of its body with weakpoints that get destroyed if damaged enough but not killing the boss doesnt even work on paper. Basically one giant game of "STOP HITTING YOURSELF, STOP HITTING YOURSELF!" against a monster truck that fires heat seeking nuclear bombs. A black spot on an otherwise awesome dlc campaign.
In my school vr game, the infected Nogara is a pain in the ass due to a very overprotective father (she is an infected enemy so you need to remove the Skibidi parasite but she is the only infected to be immune to ALL anti parasite weapons)
My choices are the Bloat, a boss so annoying it has a dedicated hate group in a game full of annoying bosses and was even made the feature boss of the April fools challenge. My second choice is Minax from Ultima 2 (but also screw Mondain from the first game too). She starts with 2 Balrons and does a guaranteed 300 damage every time you approach her, which wouldn't be so bad if she didnt teleport to the opposite end of the castle EVERY TIME YOU HIT HER. She is actually pure evil and such a time waster.
Dishonorable Mentions: *Mitch Conner - South Park: The Fractured But Whole -Depending on your strategy, this can either be smooth sailing or an insanely frustrating fight. Let's focus on the latter first. This fight is basically the equivalent of a kid on the playground going "Nuh-uh, didn't hurt me, I'm immune!" All throughout the fight, Mitch Connor will cheat any chance he can. He'll afflict the party with any status effect, give himself extra turns, steal YOUR turn if you take too long, pull up deflector shields which'll uno-reverse card any damage he takes, and most annoyingly of all, just randomly declare at various points throughout the battle that your last attack just DIDN'T DAMAGE HIM! In other words, he takes damage whenever he feels like it! It gets even worse in his rematch at the end of the game because now a second Mitch Connor from an alternate universe will redirect any damge dealt to him back at the other Connor and both of them will revive themselves endlessly so that the fight goes on forever! Eventually, even the game (and Dr. Timothy) gets fed up with this and Dr. Timothy just takes away Connor's abillity to cheat. There is however, a way to make the battle smooth sailing. Just stack as many damaging status conditions as possible on him and bleed him out. He can declare that he didn't take damage from certain attacks but he can't heal his own status conditions. *Parace L'Sia - Arcana Hearts 3 -Do not be fooled by this sexy elf, she will be the bane of your existence. Powerful super attacks, long and devastating combos, and apparently she's so hard the game starts taking pity on you and she starts losing more and more HP after your 3rd loss. There's a reason why Quarter Guy holds a grudge against this boss. *Shao Khan - Mortal Kombat Series -"KHAAAAAAN!!!" His wrath hammer can cause so much hit stun that he can stunlock you to death, he's built like a tank on steroids, and of course, his constant taunting. He's easily at his worst in MK9's 300th challenge because he ceases all taunting, but he's even more aggressive. And ELDER GODS HELP YOU if you get hit by his X-Ray Move. One, it's unblockable, and two, it's capable of taking TWO THIRDS OF YOUR HEALTH BAR!!! *Various Eggman Bosses - Sonic Series -"Get a load of THIS!" "You know what they say, the more the merrier!" The sad part is Eggman has some great bosses, it's just that some of them have instances where he NEVER SHUTS UP! And some of those voice lines are tied to attacks that he spams more often than any of his other attacks, combined! *Whitney - Pokemon Gold and Silver/Heartgold and Soulsilver. -It's that Miltank. It's tanky and fast, has stomp to make you flinch, attract which makes pokemon of the opposite gender less likely to attack (which is ESPECIALLY frustrating given the MASSIVE male slant in the starters AND the fact that Miltank is always female), Milk Drink to heal itself, and rollout, which hits for 5 turns at max and doubles in power every time it lands. And in the remakes, it has the abillity, scrappy, making it able to hit your ghost-types AND is holding a status-curing lum berry. You best bring a rock or steel-type like a magnemite since they're genderless and have good defense. Or focus on other strategies like defenses, statuses, and evasion. *Bed Of Chaos - Dark Souls -I get the idea of wanting to think outside the box with boss designs but MAN it's very clear that Dark Souls WASN'T DESIGNED with platforming in mind! At least Elden Ring gave you a freaking jump button. For context, you need to destroy the two cores on the sides of the Bed of Chaos to clear the barrier around it, once that happens, jump onto the root and destroy the bug inside the brambles. The problem is that once you destroy a core, the floor will collapse and the boss gains new attacks like flaming scythes and fire pillars. But the sweeping arms are the worst part. If he sweeps you into the holes, you auto-fail! At least the cores don't reset if you leave the room. *Gigginox - Monster Hunter Series -There are many I could list, whether it's Khezu, Plesioth, Rajang, take your pick. My pick for most annoying boss is the Gigginox. It shares many similarities to the Khezu, namely the fact that it NEVER. SHUTS. UP. It will spams roars to no end, in fact, I think both the Gigginox AND Khezu spam roars more frequently than all of their other attacks, COMBINED! For the uninitiated, monster roars are loud enough to stun the hunter in place, the only way to negate it is with the earplug skill (HG Earplugs for stronger roars). It also has a habit of crawling on the ceiling and poisoning hunters. And it has a subspecies, The Baleful Gigginox, which swaps out the poison for paralysis. *Okatsu - Nioh -The thing is, the bosses in Nioh can easily be cheesed by using Sloth Talismans. When thrown at an enemy, they'll slow their speed. But even with Sloth Talismans, Okatsu is still frustrating to fight because she is so spastic, erratic and annoyingly fast. So nailing her with one is easier said than done. *Royal Revenant -Elden Ring -I know it may seem cheap putting a miniboss on here, but even by miniboss standards this boss is CHEAP AS HELL! Revenants can teleport, spit poison, hit several times in a single combo, and are RELENTLESSLY STRONG, FAST AND AGGRESSIVE! Their one saving grace is that if you use a healing incantation when near one, they'll take significant damage, be stunned and be left wide open for a critical hit. *Zhang Rang - Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty -It's very clear that Wo Long WASN'T designed with gank bosses in mind! If you defeat a clone, you'll dent his posture and give you and opportunity for a critical hit. The problem is that when you defeat all his clones, Zhang Rang will fight you solo for a brief period, then resummon ALL OF THEM! Even with an AI partner, this is one of the most frustrating bosses in the game, and that's a game with bosses as hard as Xiang Liang, General of Man (the game's cruel first boss, it was SO tempting to put HIM on the list instead) and Lu Bu. However, there is a workaround, if you leave at least one clone alive, he'll never respawn his posse.
28:46 I think this quote fits perfectly with your final quip. "Teens Are Merely Big Children (And Adults Are Even Bigger Children)" --Serial Number Q5U4EX7YY2E9N (Queen), 2021
Some of my personal picks: Ascended/Radiant/PoH Markoth - Hollow Knight (take an already annoying boss, remove the floor, and leave your only means of standing in the form of platforms with slippery edges) Delirium - Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+/Repentance (random bs combined with telefragging. good luck trying to beat him as the Lost or the Baleful!) Okumura - Persona 5 (the fact that one of the waves has a single enemy with buffed defense means that, unless you cancel it out, you won't be able to beat all of them at once, thus prolonging the fight that's already on a time limit. not to mention the semifinal wave and the ridiculously strong aoe attack) Piedmon round 2 - Digimon Survive (on your first playthrough of the game, you won't have access to mega level at the point you fight him, and with the second round specifically, you don't have access to any of the other main characters. so if you happen to be lacking in terms of free/recruit digimon, don't have an optimal type matchup with your Agumon evolution that's already one level below Piedmon, or are severely underlevelled? well, good luck.)
23:19 Fun fact. I tried to catch Raikou in Crystal about two summers ago. It took 5 days of multi-hour sessions to catch it. In fact, thanks to the 3DS’ activity log I know exactly how long it took. *30 HOURS*
This is how I KNOW 358/2 Days' bosses were designed around the Multiplayer System. I was blessed enough to actually have friends to play 358/2 Days (despite the annoyance of the original DS' Local Play ONLY system!!) and playing alongside friends actually makes these bosses more bearable.
Ruler of the skies was definitely a drag, and I was mostly annoyed that screw ball's encounter was a chase rather than a proper fight like we got from taskmaster
And the higher the difficulty, the more annoying Mogenar gets, due to the orbs having more health, even before Mogenar actually grabs them. On Hypermode, it literally took me THREE HOURS to beat out its regeneration.
9. In A Link Between Worlds, Moldorm actually DOESN'T fully heal when you fall off the arena, but in that fight, they made him look like a cheeseburger. 5. She has programmed-in arrogance and they turned it into a crippling gameplay mechanic. 2. And after enduring an annoying as hell battle, Sigma is pathetically easy! High Max is also annoying because he's also immune to ALL OF YOUR ATTACKS! The only way to damage him is to hit him with Blaze Heatnix's weapon after hitting him with a fully charged buster shot.
I remember magneto from x2 . You have to perform a specific action in a specific spot with clunky controls under a time limit where he insta kills you if you take too long.
What made the Glumstone battle even harder for me were my faulty Joy Cons which sometimes made my character keep running when I stopped and fall into the spikes. Fun
Gate's a fine fight. It's very positioning-heavy, and since both Gate and his orbs rely on your position/movement, just making it so an orb is guaranteed to hit him/there were no shards caused by the orbs would defeat the whole purpose of the fight. Not to mention that on average, he takes 2 minutes to beat. Fights like MM7 Wily, X1 Sigma or X8's final trio take 5-7 minutes to beat if counting all phases, and those are rather unexciting as is. Even from a no damage perspective, I'd take him over many fights, particularly stuff like Launch Octopus, Burn Rooster or Snipe Anteator. (and High Max is not bad either)
Another honorable mention: Silver. YES, I KNOW IT'S NO USE BECAUSE I CANNOT DO ANYTHING WHEN YOU USE PSYCHIC POWERS TO HOLD ME!! NOW CAN WE PLEASE MOVE ON!?
I remember the Ruler of the Sky. I was at church for Christmas Eve and we were there an hour early so that we could get good seats. So I had a time limit to beat this boss, and I had to restart 3 times. Luckily I beat it right before the service started. This boss is one of the reasons I won’t replay this game.
i think the magic master from FF6 should at least be an honorable mention you are only able to use magic attacks, it has immunity to all but 1 element and that element changes constantly if you try to peek at his weaknesses he changes the element on the spot AND it has a constantly changing elemental absorption which make him HEAL from that element this isnt even counting the fact that some elements are just BS to try and get spells for
oh, AND he has a "final attack" ability! when you finally get him down to Zero health, he hits you with ULTIMA! so unless you are REALLY over-leveled, OR you took the precaution of casting "life 3" on at least one of your characters, you STILL lose! -you would have no way of knowing he does that the first time you fight him, unless you used a guide. -there are NO Save Points in that tower! oh, AND "life 3" can ONLY be learned from the Phoenix Magicite, which is in that TWO-team dungeon!
a note about guardian of the sky, even with the fire resistance you do inflict quite some damage with the piro spells. The idea is to use that to take away the tail, and when it opens it's heart then switch to melee attacks
It’s been a long time since I played 358/2 Days but I definitely remember the bosses and how long it took me to beat that one in particular. I forgot how janky that whole game was. Also, I knew people hated Screwball but I didn’t realize she was THAT hated.
Thunderblight Ganon from Breath of the Wild. He is somehow more frustrating to fight than the actual final boss of the game. -Really fast attack that UNLESS you start picking up dodging/flurry attacking, you're going to be punished severely. -If you somehow manage to get by that, his 2nd phase with the lightning rods can be frustrating. -You thought his first phase sucked? Well how about him infusing electricity into his blade so if he HITS you and you're holding metal weapons, you'll drop them and have to scramble to pick them up AS he pulls his speed attack on you. He was VERY brural on first playthrough and there's even a compilation of rage vids of players having issues with the boss as well.
A question for Insomniac Games regarding Number 1 "WHAT FOOLS STUPID IDEA WAS IT TO INCLUDE A GENDER-FLIPPED LOGAN PAUL IN THE GAME!" Where is Franziska von Karma to call out fools when you really need her!
I'm surprised Whitney from Pokémon Gold and Silver wasn't on the list. Between being a s[yaay]y sport and that f[yaaaaay] MILTANK... Beef soup, anyone?
Demyx was never a problem for me playing KH2, maybe I was playing Final Mix where they nerfed him but still. Xaldin on the other hand can take his oversized toothpicks and shove it up his a$$. Even with Mickey’s help it took me HOURS before I could beat Señor Dreadlocks sorry behind.
I have had some Baldur's Gate 3 boss fights I had to reset several times so I can get the right outcome. It's like pushing a massive rock up a hill only for that rock to slide back down and smack me in the face... Then reset to do. It. AGAIN. Love the game but those bosses are no joke
Ruler of the sky is one of the bosses on this list I've actually fought. That was by far ridiculously annoying. It wasn't even difficult. Just a pain in the rear.
Another one that I'd like to mention is Robin Goodfellow from Cassette Beasts. All because of two things, two things that make the boss fight HELL. Trick and Fairy Horde. Fairy Horde has a chance to put both party members to sleep. Notice how I said "a chance." That's not the Problem. The real problem is Trick. Trick has a *guaranteed chance* to inflict a *completely random* status effect on one of your party members.
Any boss with a quick time event that sends you straight back to the start of the level deserve to be here
Killabilly from Lollipop Chainsaw.
And if you do, you pretty much have to restart their entire portion of the campaign to bring them to the required level of power to keep up with him.
yeah the final boss of Warhammer 40K Space Marine can go screw itself
Warrior of Light (FFXIV Shadowbringers) has a QTE that everyone in the party has to clear or you wipe and start the fight over

That and always needing a full party just for tank lb3
"You think Sephiroth has a lot of HP? You thought wrong. Yiazmat from Final Fantasy XII has much more than Sephiroth. Do you know how long it took me to beat this boss? Four hours. FOUR. F**KING. HOURS!" Best line from the original list

Screwball is something I never thought was possible. A villain more annoying than Arkham Riddler. Congratulations Insomniac.
She's basically Riddler. But waaaaaay more infuriating.
I do agree that Riddler is more annoying
Fun fact about Knight in Sonic Frontiers: The shield surf can be completely avoided and is a punishment for not sidestepping around the shield while he blocks
Not only does that completely avoid the section, but it also saves a lot of time in the fight, especially if you’re trying to go for a fast time in the Battle Rush Mode.
That's kinda just it, the bosses are actually quite well designed in that you can use some mechanics to GREATLY shorten the fight time.
Only issue with any of them was when "perfect parry" became a thing, but that's been slightly patched
@@SonicAndre2 funny you mention that the boss rush trial was patch so now a button indicator will show when Knight puts up the shield.
@@colinledoux7836 Correct!

As someone who got ultimate on all of the screwball's challenges. I have to say they're hard (and a bit unforgivable) but also fun.
@@surosregime7777agreed, I personally had a blast once I got into the zone.
In the days of the GameCube, we had the first Spider-Man game based on the movie and the vulture fight was eerily similar to screwball

I did it. Wanna know my secret weapon? The mute button on my TV. Made things bearable. Not good. Bearable. I still hate Screwball and I hope she never returns
Honestly Pyribbit is actually a really fun boss in it’s original game, the giant problems only appear when you’re trying to speed run the bastard.
Agreed.
Since I don’t usually speedrun the Arena fights, I have no problem with Pyribbit.
You can also hit the tongue
Really? What's the prompt? I would have LOVED to learn it when going through the Boss Rush in the Final Horizons update.
At the very least, the boss theme "Find Your Flame" goes hard.
And I've tried that part over 10 times and have grinded the fishing game to increase my speed and defense to see if that would help at all.
i literally played the game for the first time last week, got to that boss last friday and I thought it was too easy.
There’s always that one boss that acts as a massive hurdle, but not as a test of skill, a test to see how strong your patience is.
The ruler of the skies gets worst in 358/2 day's challenge mode as the condition is to use as few attacks as possible meaning you better be good with magic if you want to fully complete the challenge mode version.

22:40 you forgot to mention that if your playing as X in the shadow armor there’s a nearly impossible jump shortly after the high max fight which you will likely have to restart the stage and change armors to actually make
So it wasn't just me.
Any additional thoughts I have to give:
10) Shout-outs to the fact that the 3rd fight is already part of a Boss Rush where you're refighting a bunch of the game's other bosses as well
9) If I remember correctly, Moldorm is a lot tamer in Link Between Worlds since falling doesn't reset its HP. Kinda makes falling more of a pointless annoyance compared to an excruciating one. Also surprised to hear no mention of his Link's Awakening counterpart since I heard he's actually quite bad in that game too, especially since he's the FIRST boss instead of the third
8) Triple Deluxe in general is pretty guilty of bosses hiding in the background, but yeah, Pyribbit is definitely the worst of them.
It's also especially sad how the Sigma fight afterward is a complete joke by comparison
HMs) For Raikou & Entei (and Suicune), I wanna give special mention to their appearance in FRLG, where do to an oversight, if they use Roar on you, the game is tricked into thinking they fainted, meaning they're completely gone unless you reload your save.
1) ...This is literally my first time hearing about Screwball... period. I never knew she existed before this. Huh...
Honestly this my first time hearing abput screwball too... maybe that's a good thing though...
I found the second Lord in Tales of Arise to be far more annoying.
i really despise bosses like that Metroid one, where not only can they only be hurt by hitting a specific weak spot, but the spot is covered most of the time!

I'm having scarred flashbacks of having to deal with Screwball in Marvel's Spider-Man so happy that Insomniac didn't bring her back for Spider-Man 2.
Or miles morales
One I would have had was (Spoilers for Xenoblade Chronicles 1)
Disciple Lorithia
She has insane def buffs when her nebulae are on the field (and she can spawn more), can confuse your party into ealkingvinto the puddles of Ether (aka Magic Poison) around the arena, and resists physical attacks. Amd every 5 seconds you'll hear "You'll pay for yiur insolence!"
She showed up in Josh's Worst Villains list a couple/few months ago, if you were interested.
Lorithia isn't challenging, she's just an annoyingly difficult boss fight following on from a character who I honestly couldn't give two shits about because we know diddly-prick about her aside from how much she wants us to pay for our insolence (her and Flame Hyenard must be drinking buddies when they're off the clock). >.>

Actually, not doing the full combo is kind of important for almost every boss in this game - especially those that come later on. Because if you persist the combo after a certain point, the boss will perfect dodge all following attacks in the combo every time.
Fortunately, it’s consistent at which point they dodge. So just learn when they dodge and *don’t combo for that long.*

Moldorm in Link Between Worlds. One word: Hammer. The dungeon is centered around using the hammer, so the boss is to be weak to the hammer.
I think this original countdown was one of the first I ever watched in general. Nice to see the update!
A black spot on an otherwise awesome dlc campaign.
also that motor head yelling constantly from what i remember, then agian i finished the boss and never refought it
@@Leostar-Regalius Piston and yeah, no one does lol.
21:37 One of Josh's editors watches OSW. Can of coke to ya!
16:07 I’m someone who legitimately enjoys playing this game, and even then…yeah this is one of like 3 missions I never look forward to playing.
Dishonorable Mentions:
*Mitch Conner - South Park: The Fractured But Whole
-Depending on your strategy, this can either be smooth sailing or an insanely frustrating fight.
*Parace L'Sia - Arcana Hearts 3
-Do not be fooled by this sexy elf, she will be the bane of your existence. Powerful super attacks, long and devastating combos, and apparently she's so hard the game starts taking pity on you and she starts losing more and more HP after your 3rd loss. There's a reason why Quarter Guy holds a grudge against this boss.
*Shao Khan - Mortal Kombat Series
-"KHAAAAAAN!!!"
His wrath hammer can cause so much hit stun that he can stunlock you to death, he's built like a tank on steroids, and of course, his constant taunting.
*Various Eggman Bosses - Sonic Series
-"Get a load of THIS!"
"You know what they say, the more the merrier!"
The sad part is Eggman has some great bosses, it's just that some of them have instances where he NEVER SHUTS UP!
*Bed Of Chaos - Dark Souls
-I get the idea of wanting to think outside the box with boss designs but MAN it's very clear that Dark Souls WASN'T DESIGNED with platforming in mind!
*Gigginox - Monster Hunter Series
-There are many I could list, whether it's Khezu, Plesioth, Rajang, take your pick.
*Okatsu - Nioh
-The thing is, the bosses in Nioh can easily be cheesed by using Sloth Talismans. When thrown at an enemy, they'll slow their speed. But even with Sloth Talismans, Okatsu is still frustrating to fight because she is so spastic, erratic and annoyingly fast. So nailing her with one is easier said than done.
*Royal Revenant -Elden Ring
-I know it may seem cheap putting a miniboss on here, but even by miniboss standards this boss is CHEAP AS HELL!
*Zhang Rang - Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
-It's very clear that Wo Long WASN'T designed with gank bosses in mind!
24:02
I'm not the only one annoyed by this Nutbar
"F*yay* you Screwball !!"
28:46 I think this quote fits perfectly with your final quip.
"Teens Are Merely Big Children (And Adults Are Even Bigger Children)"
--Serial Number Q5U4EX7YY2E9N (Queen), 2021
Some of my personal picks:
Ascended/Radiant/PoH Markoth - Hollow Knight (take an already annoying boss, remove the floor, and leave your only means of standing in the form of platforms with slippery edges)
Delirium - Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+/Repentance (random bs combined with telefragging. good luck trying to beat him as the Lost or the Baleful!)
Okumura - Persona 5 (the fact that one of the waves has a single enemy with buffed defense means that, unless you cancel it out, you won't be able to beat all of them at once, thus prolonging the fight that's already on a time limit. not to mention the semifinal wave and the ridiculously strong aoe attack)
Piedmon round 2 - Digimon Survive (on your first playthrough of the game, you won't have access to mega level at the point you fight him, and with the second round specifically, you don't have access to any of the other main characters. so if you happen to be lacking in terms of free/recruit digimon, don't have an optimal type matchup with your Agumon evolution that's already one level below Piedmon, or are severely underlevelled? well, good luck.)
23:50 I appreciate the undertale flowey reference
12:13 what song is this?
-Top 10 annoying bosses
-Thumbnail is what I'd argue to be the most fun titan boss from Frontiers ngl
What did Scorcher of Josh mean by this?
24:42 You Fool! Why do you have to remind me of HER!!!!!!!!!???!!???
Another honorable mention: Silver. YES, I KNOW IT'S NO USE BECAUSE I CANNOT DO ANYTHING WHEN YOU USE PSYCHIC POWERS TO HOLD ME!! NOW CAN WE PLEASE MOVE ON!?
I remember the Ruler of the Sky. I was at church for Christmas Eve and we were there an hour early so that we could get good seats. So I had a time limit to beat this boss, and I had to restart 3 times. Luckily I beat it right before the service started. This boss is one of the reasons I won’t replay this game.
i think the magic master from FF6 should at least be an honorable mention
you are only able to use magic attacks, it has immunity to all but 1 element and that element changes constantly
if you try to peek at his weaknesses he changes the element on the spot
AND it has a constantly changing elemental absorption which make him HEAL from that element
this isnt even counting the fact that some elements are just BS to try and get spells for
oh, AND he has a "final attack" ability!
when you finally get him down to Zero health, he hits you with ULTIMA!
so unless you are REALLY over-leveled, OR you took the precaution of casting "life 3" on at least one of your characters, you STILL lose!
-you would have no way of knowing he does that the first time you fight him, unless you used a guide.
-there are NO Save Points in that tower!
oh, AND "life 3" can ONLY be learned from the Phoenix Magicite, which is in that TWO-team dungeon!
25:15 as a REAL wrestler and avid Logan Paul hater. I thank you 😊.
25:47. So Screwball is basically Sssniperwolf.
a note about guardian of the sky, even with the fire resistance you do inflict quite some damage with the piro spells.
The idea is to use that to take away the tail, and when it opens it's heart then switch to melee attacks
The Imprisoned from Skyward Sword. The "cut off his toes" bit gets old real quick.
14:16 never have i been more grateful for my inability to follow through
It’s been a long time since I played 358/2 Days but I definitely remember the bosses and how long it took me to beat that one in particular. I forgot how janky that whole game was. Also, I knew people hated Screwball but I didn’t realize she was THAT hated.
Sweet Celestia, that 'Shut up' for Eggman was memory jogger.
I'm so glad they didn't bring back Screwball for the sequel games.
Let's hope it stays that way with the 3rd one in the future.
@@shadowlinkbds I'm pretty sure Insomniac banished her from New York seeing as she wasn't on the list of Kraven's potential targets.
I'm surprised that Demyx isn't an honorable mention... I struggled with his second fight in KH2 so often...
Don't use Drive forms, use summons.
I'm surprised Whitney from Pokémon Gold and Silver wasn't on the list. Between being a s[yaay]y sport and that f[yaaaaay] MILTANK... Beef soup, anyone?
Yeah, I know. I thought Demyx would've been an Honorable Mention, at least as a formality.
Because Josh doesn't wanna mention him for the umpteenth time. He made it clear years ago.
Master Gee, Borderlands 2? I've never fought him. Is that a DLC...?
I have had some Baldur's Gate 3 boss fights I had to reset several times so I can get the right outcome. It's like pushing a massive rock up a hill only for that rock to slide back down and smack me in the face... Then reset to do. It. AGAIN. Love the game but those bosses are no joke
Hee hee, I recognize that song in the Screwball segment…
Nice touch.
9:46...
This one hits me hard "Cries"
Ruler of the sky is one of the bosses on this list I've actually fought. That was by far ridiculously annoying. It wasn't even difficult. Just a pain in the rear.
There's one thing he forgot to mention about that boss, it can fly past the invisible wall.
Another one that I'd like to mention is Robin Goodfellow from Cassette Beasts. All because of two things, two things that make the boss fight HELL. Trick and Fairy Horde. Fairy Horde has a chance to put both party members to sleep. Notice how I said "a chance."
That's not the Problem. The real problem is Trick. Trick has a *guaranteed chance* to inflict a *completely random* status effect on one of your party members.
11:44 I never thought Josh of all people would use THAT in a video. Jasper was that you?
