SYNOPSIS
Penelope is forced to marry Jonathan but there is no attraction between the two. As a matter of fact, Jonathan is more interested in spending time with the butler than with his wife. Penelope finds a way of reuniting with the love of her life and manages to hire him as the gardener. Two secret affairs in one household soon lead to major scandalous situations.

I love period pieces because they leave me afterwards with a residual inner peace I can't find anywhere else these days. I have watched all of the srandard classics repeatedly for decades. We need some new stories set in times where gracious manners and gracious living, were the standards everyone strove for whether rich or poor. I love that people were respectful of one another; a small curtsy or a gentle bow of the head made such a difference. I'm afraid we will never see such polite or considerate conduct ever again. Instead of evolving, we seem to be devolving. So sad. . .
I truly loved this movie. Portrays such original feelings of those around you. Accepting each others differences and living together in harmony. Seldom understood in our real world. Beautiful story. Balance between different lifestyles

It's so stupid, but I am obsessed with this movie. The true gay-straight alliance, the friendships, the constant twist and turns, the characters growing and idk to me they feel so real and I don't even care if the acting is bad. Escaping polite society and creating your own community is such an interesting theme

The writing was accurate with the linguistics of the time period but the acting wasn't really equal to it. Overall, it was an 'okay' movie. Probably won't ever watch it again, though.
