Your teacher is probably not as exposed to other mathematical methods and is glued to only one. Using this method is okay and you can use it for ECZ, since your teacher won't be the one marking.

I think this formula is easy and straight forward think about the time they give in an exam, drawing up the table can chew a lot of time
