Was listening to some rock like fusion music played on a Japanese shamisen and was curious to find out what an Indian string instrument like sitar or veena would sound like in a fusion. Reached here, not disappointed.
These guys are awesome. I've heard all kinds of instruments used for jazz. Violins, synthesizers, banjos. I always wondered if anyone ever tried using a sitar for jazz. I guess they have. What's the actual name of the band? They should name it something simple that people can remember. No one's ever going to forget The Grateful Dead for example but Ashwin Batish, Kuumbwa Jazz, if that's their name, that's another story. There's got to be a play on words they could use. Raga and Roll or something but more jazzy.
The name of the band is Sitar Power. Been around since the 80s. Appreciate your comments. When Ashwin started, he got this coverage ua-cam.com/video/yz2Tg6e5Jz8/v-deo.html
Ashwin, we spoke a little bit in the 90's when I had a radio show at KDUR, Durango, (Colorado). 'Glad this vid was just recommended! Best wishes to you!
+ragmala the song is very beautiful and sounds very familiar , can you please share your influences and inspiration Im interested in listening to more similar music and thanks in advance
Thanks Omar. The scale is called Bhairava and the style of playing is really the brain child of of our musical founder Ashwin Batish. He started this back in the mid 80s. He has produced several albums in this vein that you might want to check out. Look for his music by name "Ashwin Batish" in iTunes etc. Other music by the Batish family can also be accessed there. Thanks for your comments and interests. Hope you can catch him in concert. His live music performances are a sight to behold. His musical influences are his father Pandit Shiv Dayal Batish who was one of the legendary Bollywood music composers and singers from 1930 -1965 time period. Many of his old songs can be heard on UA-cam.
Wow.So beautiful and emotional...!! I'm glad that I can watch your cool performance. Thank you so much, dear friend.. Greetings,Chirantha.... Sri Lanka....

Nice!! Love East meets West tunes!! I guess I can thank George Harrison and Ravi Shankar for that. Has a Spanish casbah feel, and @4:19 love the flight of the bumble bee sound!!!
I was thinking about Ashwin Batish, how his family had their restaurant on Hwy 1, with the dais set in the middle for impromptu concerts from the master himself…we didn’t know what we had, eh?
+Patrick Williamson Thanks Patrick. That's the one and only Myron Dove. Payed with almost everyone in the industry.Google him. (Santana, Ronny Montrose, Tony Furtado) www.discogs.com/artist/488218-Myron-Dove
