I tow a boat with my 2015 4Runner. Basically maxed out at 5k pounds and it does fine. It’s not too hilly in my area but it would be ok in the hills as long as you’re not in a hurry.
I'm looking to move my boat around. It's probably 4700 so close to the max. I'm only moving the boat 4-6 times a year 5-20 miles max each time. I'm nervous it won't work.
@@macjohnston2643 No issues. A couple of years ago the water in our lake was really low, so the trailer dropped off of the back of the ramp and I had to put it in low range. Mine is a limited so it’s always in 4wd. If you’re nervous just make sure you have it in 4wd
I have a ‘22 trd off road. I towed a full 10x12 uhaul trailer with about 4200 lbs from IL to CA. Averaged about 12 mpg’s. Towed just fine. At steep grades, the braking could of been better. Going up grades, i was only able to go like 40 mph without pushing too much. It stayed well grounded when it got windy.
@@jay_aye I measured the tongue weight today. Turns out it's 1000 lbs with a 3500 total weight. It does make a Tacoma squat a little. I don't know how the 4Runner would handle it.
Thanks for the video. I also had a Frontier and got one of these a couple of weeks ago. I used 3rd gear with the Frontier when towing in the mountains (AZ, UT, and CO) and then I’d shift back to D when the road flattened out. That way seemed to put less stress on the engine and transmission, plus it kept the rpms down to help a little with fuel mileage ( I got about 16 to 17 MPG when towing, 20 to 22 MPG when not towing). Do you think it’s best to stay in S4 with this vehicle or go back and forth between S4 and D?
@@mpprocter I think S4 for sure if you're doing a lot of mountain towing, also depending on your load. You can play with it a bit and see what works for you, but I think going from S4 to D when things flatten out is a solid strategy.
I have a you guessed it: 21 4Runner SR5 Premium. Truck is awesome but ever since we purchased it with 44K miles and now at 54K miles, I feel as if there is excessive road feedback that vibrates through to the steering wheel. Wheel balance helped and had vehicle aligned but still there. Do you experience this with yours? Mine is all stock. Feel it more at hwy speeds. Ty!
@@4Runner21 I do feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel at 60 mph only. I've read that this is a normal characteristic of 4Runners, similar (but not as drastic) as the death wobble in Jeeps.
@@ZetaDogProductions very true most def not that insane wobble. @@4Runner21 Thanks for the kind words! The vibration on mine goes away at around 65 mph, and honestly, I don't even notice it much anymore. I don't get it when going over bumps. Do you have the Dunlaps or Nitro Grapplers? I wonder how much difference different tires makes.

From all the research I have done on towing with a 4Runner, 4th gear is supposedly the most effective gear for towing. Keeping it in "S" mode limits your transmission from shifting to 5th gear, as it limits the gear range from 1 to 4.
@@robertonunez9621 There's no "eco mode" per se. The eco light kicks on when you are maximizing fuel economy by not pushing the vehicle. You can turn the light off in the center stack settings.
Your a bit mixed up my man. S4 is taking it out of Overdrive, not putting it into overdrive. 5th gear is an overdrive gear, 4th gear (S4) is not and will keep the revs higher for obvious reasons. Some manufactures recommend not towing in overdrive, but its not an issue, depending on weight, load size, etc. Just use common sense. Your tiny trailer is fine to tow in D, or overdrive.

@AznPerzuaSin Around town you won't hear the supercharger. Unless you get on it from a stoplight etc. I would say my mileage has not suffered. I might have gained a mile or two. But that depends on how much showing off you do. The other thing is you have to burn premium fuel after the install
