@@monotronics8521 Well said, to me there seems to be infinite layers and nuances to Sun Ra which changes with each listen and always keeps the music fresh & forward thinking

Oh my Lord. Sun Ra. It's so clever. Like taking the mickey out of sentimentality and slightly segueing into midnight creepy ghost stories, even hints of Django, yet as always with the legend that is Sun Ra, a Consciousness Raising Experience.
Then Debussy, Satie... well I will stop trying to describe now... just an immense genius and a lovely warm heart
Edit: I mean someone whose history goes back to Columbard (well I probably go that wrong, whatever that high class music school is) and working with big band leader Fletcher Henderson and the likes, but then appealing to deep jazz enthusiasts and occultists in the 60's, his overview is like a subtle star shining in the mystical ethers.

At first I was wondering what happened to side B. Now I see that side A is best experienced as a stand alone EP. This stuff is very early Sun Ra from the 50s. Side B is from a session in 1973, which is very much avant garde noise. I'm not sure why anyone would combine these two totally different sounds on one re-release album.

The side B tracks are from the Cymbals album, which was originally rejected by Impulse but is now available as physical and digital reissue officially. Sun Ra did that sort of thing, combining totally different material on one album, rather frequently. To some extent they are sorting it back out in the reissue program. I don't know why these tracks haven't made it to the current reissues.
