It's convenient. 3 signals can be recorded simultaneously. One with a cabinet simulator, the other is clean, but with the equalization you prefer to your taste and color, and the third is a dry signal. and then the one who compiles the recording will either mix them or take a dry signal and make his own equalization, or he will like your equalization and he will immediately apply it for recording. For example, if you're in a beginner band and you really need to record a demo fast. Great pedal. Joyo is Awesome!
Just got one (thanks to this video!!) and A/B/C tested the XLR, 1/4” output, and headphone out. When the cab sim is on, XLR and headphone outs sound identical. When the cab sim is off, XLR and 1/4” out sound identical and headphone out is unchanged. Only conclusion I can arrive at is that the cab sim is always on the headphone output!
Cab sim not affecting the 1/4" output seems like a great idea to me, since it's probably going to your amp, or other pedal(s) that then go to your amp. But yeah, it should go to the headphones too.
Exactly the review I was looking for on this thing. Thanks for this! I can see a lot of bassists that have been on the fence with buying Darkglass will bite on this and get hooked pretty quick. Alpha Omega is probably the most popular Darkglass circuit, so this is a solid win.
I've been looking for a preamp/DI as a "hope I never need to use it/get me through the gig" backup to my helix. This joyo sounds like it could do the job, especially at that price!
Awesome demo 😎🤘🏻🎸 I’m a big darkglass fan and I think this is a good affordable alternative. I also like joyo pedals too and I think this preamp pedal has a nice versatile tone for the price. I might consider purchasing this pedal if I ever needed a new preamp pedal.
You honestly pretty much convinced me to get this thing. Only one question: when you say the EQ only affects the clean signal, does the distorted signal also get affected by the changes in the clean signal? For instance, if I give the clean sound a V-shaped EQ (I don't do that, it's just a quicker way than explaining all the EQing I'd do on this), would it affect the signal that's sent to the distortion?
@@ampthebassplayer aw, I wanted to keep a clean low-end with dirty mids and highs... regardless, I still dig the tone as it is, that won't keep me from getting this thing!
@@KleversonRoytherthe x series dg stuff does that. The x is awesome and totally worth the $ imo. I haven’t seen a clone of those yet but doesn’t mean it’s not our there.
Sorry for not responding to y'all, I ended up getting a Deluxe Bass Big Muff that has a nice crossover and great tones. I run my bass through a volume pedal to change how much distortion I want.
I wouln´t go for this pedal TBH, many units make an annoying beep when the distortion is engaged just as shown in the demo made by Deadbeat Studios. It wasn´t a mere coincidence that happened when he was making the demo, I´ve read hundreds of comments of people saying they had the same issue which is very hard to fix. It´s better to play safe and buy the darkglass or a sansamp unit or the EHX Batallion which are not as expensive as the Dark glass.
They’re just different. If you want a classic tone, then the Tidal Wave is better. If you want a more modern heavy tone, the Monomyth is better. They’re both good in their own way.
Hello friend, I have a question for you. When you connect the Joyo Monomyth through the XLR output, the volume is much lower, compared to if you connect it through the 6.3 mm output jack??? Can you help me with that question please? Thank you so much.
What is the function of thru output? Can you use it for audio track to jam along? Sorry for my english. If there is a aux in or output to play music , i will definitely get one
I got a hartke bass attack 2.. and will order this one just to compare i know they're different. Just want to explore more. .. my question is ..which is a better arrangement, compressor first + joyomonomyth or joyomyth then compressor? Thank you in advance
@@ampthebassplayer Sure on the Headphone-out it is missing, but for live gigs it is convient to send the uneffected signal to the amp for the stage sound and the sound with the cab sim to the front of house. So it would be optimal if it was everywhere except for the normal output jack and the dry through :)
I just got mine and to me it sounds like the cab sim is "always on" at the headphone out. Going from the normal output oder the DI without the Cab Sim into a Headphone pre amp sounds thin and enging the cab sim on the DI makes it a lot closer to the headphone out. :)
I dunno; the darkglass tone (or this reasonable facsimile) doesn't quite do it for me. Besides, I get similar tones from the Tech 21 Geddy pedal. Meh. Different strokes, etc.....
This doesn't really sound like a Darkglass pedal. It's smoother on top. Almost more of a fuzz. Darkglass has that kind of "barbed wire" top end that's so popular in modern metal. Maybe you can get that with this pedal, but I've had it for about a month and I'm mostly just treating it as a fuzz with some nice features.
With the blend knob, drive knob, EQ, high boost, and gain switch, it seems it was user error and not the fault of the pedal. If you can't get different sounds out of it, you either think all distortion sounds the same or you didn't try hard enough.
Come for the pedal, stay for the thighs 🔥🔥🔥🔥
😳
Totally!

Tech21 does that in the 90s it is not new but this is way cheaper
This review makes me so happy. I have one on the way and I am excited to play around with the settings
Me too

That would totally make sense.

Good stuff. Thanks for the review.
Great video man! Your bass tone is already incredible without the pedal, congrats.
There's a free amplitube bass plugin if ur interested
Great review thank you
Just waiting my sweet monomyth come to my home
Considering this costs less than an actual Darkglass I see this as a win.

Yes, I wasn't completely clear on that. The EQ comes before the distortion and will affect how the distortion sounds as well.

Yeah, you can mix the blend knob to be just the dirty signal.
Thank you!

Is there a difference in sound if we connect the amplifier from the output point with a cable?
What is the function of thru output? Can you use it for audio track to jam along? Sorry for my english. If there is a aux in or output to play music , i will definitely get one
There is no aux in. The Thru jack gives you a bypass of the pedal so your bass comes out the same as it does as though the pedal weren’t there.
I got a hartke bass attack 2.. and will order this one just to compare i know they're different. Just want to explore more. .. my question is ..which is a better arrangement, compressor first + joyomonomyth or joyomyth then compressor? Thank you in advance
Late answer, but anyway.
Compressor first, then Monomyth.
Hi, may i ask what's the signal chain? Straight into the audio interface? Cab Sim onboard? The same as the double thruster? Thank you.
It is essentially the double thruster with extra channels, way more sculpting and EQ and an XLR!
Makes me feel like I wasted a lot of money on a darkglass one. I wish this was released earlier.
Inventing the concept is far more expensive than cloning.
No way! If you like it and it works, then it's the right tool for the job!
Would stacking this with the double thruster work well in your opinion?
I think it would work great. You'd end up with two different sounding stages of distortion.
It stacks well with my Joyo Kings on low gain
Great video, now do the Scylla compressor, since I already bought one and have it on my board 👀
Soon…
By any chance is there a clone for the Duality Fuzz? :v
This one and the Double Thruster are the only ones I know of, but Joyo has a ton of pedals in this new series.
Damn I really wish the cab sim affected the headphone out
Right? Seems like they didn’t think that through.

doesn't really sound like a darkglass to me, but that's not necessarily bad imho
If Darkglass wants to send me an Alpha Omega to do a shootout, I'm open to that! I'd be really curious to see if it's really worth 3x of the clone.
It doesn't, but I have one and it sounds great. It's "creamier" and "smoother" than a Darkglass pedal, imo. I actually prefer it.

If you are selling your soul for a DG clone at least sell it for the best clone pedal ,the Demonfx alpha omicron pedal

I tried one. Was less than impressed, pretty much a one trick pony - high gain modern distortion. No nuance.
Cleans are good tho
