    Seeing Dante just teleporting and levitating all the damn place reminds me of one of those anime fights where the characters rarely touch the ground and fight like there's no gravity whatsoever, It's fu*king awesome.

    I think that if they make a DMC6 and Inertia is demand enough they could easily put it in because of how "easy" it was for modders to add it in DMC5.

      They removed inertia but they made it so u can keep moving in your desired direction through the air with just the left stick.
      Yes people have spent a shitton of time practicing to master air movement in 4 but they made it so in 5 everyone can do it with a basic knowledge of the game, without having to do that. it's not a necessary mechanic they wouldn't need to add it. Just breaks their game more, maybe fun for stuff like these but in the end it's just that

      ​@@emaitchess3821 I'm of the opinion that they could've done that while keeping inertia, because I don't really see the use in halting the inertia as it's a singleplayer game. It's not like other people are using inertia to fuck you up in PvP or something like that, plus the motivation to master inertia is intrinsic, it's just to look stylish. There's no advantage in terms of damage for using inertia. And the other uses of inertia still can't be done with the left stick like guard flying, skyrunning, or star rave's different variations, it only works for rainstorm.

      @@emaitchess3821 kind of made me a little salty because once 5 was released, I spent hours figuring out how to do all of the inertia stuff, sword raves, enemy stepping which I was never good at, switching to all styles in combat, mobile Rain Storms, I learned it all and became so much better I even beat Blood Palace when I couldn't get past floor 30 before.
      I won't say the time was wasted because I did become ridiculously good in 5, but a lot of techniques were just canned.

    Before I get deeper in DMC and play the real one(not the reboot), I was thinking it's just a cool slasher game, like God of War
    But now, oh boy, not only the storytelling is amazing, not only the gameplay gives you a sense of real control of a death-machine, but also watching such amazing guys, like Donguri and DK, send shivers all over my body! I thought Tekken or MK combos are something astounding, but watching DMC "Bosses" is really make me feel so incompitent and motivated!

    One other thing DMC4 had unlike the others was Reversals which got cut from 5 despite being in the demo. I think at one point Itsuno did want that to be a thing though because he said he wanted Dragon's Dogma to be an action game without lock-on. Reversals would be something everyone could use with that.

      Reversals aren't exclusive to 4, these can be done in 3 as well. In 5's case they are in the game and you can do them when no enemies are present but as soon as enemies are targetable the ability to do a reversal is removed aside from very specific cases like EX-Streak.
      Itsuno did confirm during a livestream post launch of the game that this was "removed" because they didn't want a player to accidentally do this after seeing it be done during play testing. Which doesn't quite make sense since it requires you to buffer buttons which can be pretty hard accidentally but hey ho, what's done is done now.

      @@Gamegalgegod Yeah I was there for the stream and saw it live. I was kind of worried but you have to understand they don't quite understand the terminology and the stream was for english fans.
      There were points where he had a hard time understanding but they had Mat there to translate. I remember him saying that if a thing is cool then they try to keep it in. The response you're talking about I remember being when repeatedly being asked and apart of Mat's damage control. He could pretty clearly tell that people didn't like the answer we got.

      Yep. One is a bit broken, has crazier movement, disliked due to control layout, and has a bit of a smaller fanbase, while the other is a tad less broken, has a better layout, more beginner friendly gameplay, and is loved by most of the fanbase.

    this has the same energy as style player is tony hawks underground 2, where players stopped going after high scores and instead just used all the tricks to put together visually amazing combos, in the case of DMC it's going from getting the quickest time to flying around like its a fuckin anime

    Great explanation for inertia in DMC4. Now I really understand why some people like DMC4 more than 5. But like only 0.0001% of players really know how to utilize it in such a stylish way. I think DMC5 removing inertia while adding a lot more stuff that more people would find easier to implement in their gameplay and be really stylish won't really take away the fun. (Personally DMC5 is my favorite action game by far)

      This makes it sound like implementing inertia in DMC5 would be difficult or be some sort of compromise. To make it function like in 4 sure, but technically speaking it's already in 5. They just designed it so that you lose your inertia almost instantly. And whether or not inertia is in the game or not has nothing to do with having many moves. Adding inertia to the game isn't some sort of trade off or something. If anything it's more than likely possible that they put more work in to make sure that inertia wasn't present in the game

      @@WanderDMC What 5 gained from removing inertia is making moves feel much more intuitive and easy to understand than 4. Personally I never liked inertia but understand how technically yes, it did add more depth to some moves. The moves that do alter inertia however feel rather arbitrary, for example Nero's midair charge shot giving you backwards momentum doesn't exactly feel nice when you're trying to work it into a combo because it simply forces you to grab or air caliber back to the target, and neither of those moves feel well tuned to the slight-but-noticable bit of inertia the airshot gives you. As I said yes, this does add another dimension to combat but all this comes down to is another unintuitive extraneous factor to manage, and in a game where you already have to manage the positions and velocities and stun values of you and your enemies, it just strikes me as an annoying distraction more than anything. If you find it fun, that's fine but I just do not and neither of us is necessarily right in that

      @@salvale9184 Not really sure what this has to do with my initial comment tbh. Aerial charge shot moves you backwards regardless of whether you choose to carry the inertia or not. Pretty sure it even pushes you backwards in 5, so you'd have to calibur, snatch, or JC it regardless if you don't want to deal with the backwards momentum. You're kinda conflating the implementation of inertia in general with an instance of Nero's design just being the way it is. Besides that's only one of like two instances where you could maybe call it unintuitive. The only other instance I can think of it being stinger jump, but that's a pretty niche scenario that you'd have to put yourself in. These are like the only two instances in which a casual player can come across inertia and have it feel unintuitive, but truth be told that's not even scratching the surface of what inertia can do. The pros far outweigh two potential negatives. It's also really not that much to manage with everything else. You don't even have to actively implement it into your play style either. It's entirely up to you, as is the case with 99% of the game's combat. It should be there for the people that enjoy it and want to add an extra layer to their gameplay. It's not even difficult to manage it either. It's something you just utilize the more you play, the same as the other things you mentioned. Also not sure why you brought up stun values? Those aren't prevalent in 4 or 5 or really even something you can manage outside of DMC3. Inertia is already a positioning tool anyway, so you're not adding much more to manage. You just have more control/nuance over it, especially with Dante

    Oh man, seeing DonGuri's gameplay right there takes me back, I remember seeing his fights and damn, he fights like a god, I'm no big time speed runner but I do like to try speedr unning every so often just because i love the chaos, DMC games in a way is the one that just makes me enjoy crazier battles in terms of chaos compared to a game like dragon ball xenoverse 2, it is why seeing dmc4 is probably going to be the most op types of gameplay you can ever see without any sorts of mods, dmc5 has lots of crazy stuff with it alone, but the fact that dmc4 was what brought creative chaos to such a degree, it's enough to make any warmonger and speedsters nut at absolutely satisfying gameplay fights like these, the trick to being able to play as crazy as this sometimes is to just enjoy and feel the game, like if you are looking at this from an outside perspective and it makes you think "I'll never be able to do this" your wrong, it's not impossible, you just have to be able to keep a cool head while trying to combo, it's kind of hard to explain in a way but think about it like literal "instinct" you get to the point where you don't even need to think about what button combination is the move, you just think about "what direction do i want to take the combat to" I'm still a long way from mastering the games but i have had moments where my mind is so clear and calm that i am pulling of crazy flying combos as well just from my head being like "ok this is the order i want to do this in" sorry about the paragraph but daaamn, i gotta admit if it wasn't for the physics in dmc4 we wouldn't be seeing crazy stuff like this all the time .

    My favourite game for ambiguously intended tech is ULTRAKILL. There's so much cool stuff you can do with the movement and the weapons that it blurs the line between game design and happy acidents. It's pretty clear that dash jumping, rocket boosting and rail coining are intended mechanics but what about slam storage, triple rail coining, triple projectile boosting, combining multiple rocket jumps in an instant for exponential speed boosts? Ultrakill is just so cool.

    Even if the use of inertia in DMC4 was unintended I also can't help but remember that in DMC3 jump cancelling was also an unintended piece of tech that they kept because of the (at the time) crazy things players were able to do with it.

      @@tempestbrown5033 You can indeed JC the shotty, but it was extremely limited. DMC3 was the introduction of jump cancelling as we know it today. And at the time it was 100% unintentional.

    How, HOW? I just wanna know how can one human person perform all of this at human speed, not even hands my mind doesn't process the moves fast enough to do this how are these people doing this?
    Not to mention enemy step in dmc4 is extremely tricky to perform I've been playing for 12 years and I still dunno when I can get a guaranteed jump cancel on enemies

      A lot of it is this simple mindboggling concept
      They don't think about the moves
      Combos like this, or speedrun strats and tricks, often come down to building a rhythm and muscle memory for the process or major parts of the process, so you just think "I'm doing The Thing" and Do It, instead of "I'm doing XYA XXYART XBAYY" or whatever and getting lost in your own inability to keep up, its also why when a speedrunner messes up a strat, they can often devolve to tactics similar to a casual player, it isn't necessarily that they can't do better, its that their rhythm is broken and thats disorienting compared to walking in prepared to do something less precise

      They build up thousands upon thousands of hours practicing and learning so when it gets to it, they don’t even think about what they are doing.

    to my knowledge the reason inertia exists is because of the physics engine in the engine DMC 4 was made on MT framework and it was not included in 5 because that game is made on the RE engine and that engine has a different physics system so the developers decided that it would be better to leave it out and give the moves in 5 more hang time in the air and other reworks of move momenton instead of try to recreate it and deal with all the issues that would arise from trying to purposefully recreate something that happened on accident

      It has nothing to do with the engine. DMC5 does have inertia, they just made it so that it degrades instantly for 99% of moves. Vergil is proof of this since he can carry inertia with his teleport up. Dante has similar things in 5, but they're way more specific and difficult to use

      @@WanderDMC no it does have to do with the engine as MT framework and RE engine handle physics differently and inerta as a concept like I said originally came about by accident from how MT handled its physics it was basically a glitch and recreating an accident in code especially in a different engine can be like trying to catch lightning in a bottle so it was scraped and just because one or two moves still have remnants of a scraped system does not disprove in any way what I have said as that is the reason given by capcom when the DMC 5 demo came out and people asked where inerta was

      @@elapidpython4378 Recreating the physics of one game in another isn't impossible or that ridiculous of a concept. Quake's strafe jumping was a glitch and they've purposely kept it in the game and even recreated it in different engines for years. The concept of it is even very similar to inertia. Also I think categorizing inertia as a glitch isn't even correct anyway since I'm sure the physics are working as intended, they just didn't expect it to have the potential applications that it does in 4. It's more of an exploit than anything tbh. Same with enemy step/jump cancelling. Also it isn't some sort of scrapped system if it's in the game and possible to do on moves that they just forgot to design to have instant momentum decay. Calling it a system makes it sound like it's incredibly complicated. Whether or not a move generates or carries a momentum is a property of a move itself and how it's designed. The instances of it in 5 and how it works in 4 are proof of this. It's a case by case basis. Modders have had inertia working in the game since 2019 anyway, and that's with a hex editor. It'd be infinitely easier to do with the actual source code. Also I don't really care if the devs chose to remove it purposefully or not, I'm not arguing that to begin with even if it could just be some kind of damage control before the game launched. That wasn't the point of my inital comment anyway since they can design the game however they want. My point is that it has nothing to do with the engine, and if the devs wanted to they could easily have just designed the game's moves to function similarly to 4 with inertia. They never mentioned it being an issue with the engine, it was a design decision. The fact that some moves can generate inertia are proof of my point that it has nothing to do with the engine, it's purely a design decision and not that complicated of one to make if it's already possible in the game. It's the same with 4 in that not every move generates or carries momentum. A lot of it is the moves themselves and how they designed and implemented them, not necessarily the physics engine itself that determines whether or not it's possible

      Recreating a SYSTEM from scratch that came about by ACCIDENT in a completely different engine without any games in between or probably even the source code to the original game or engine as game companies be weird like that to figure out how the fuck the system acually worked is REAL FUCKIN HARD and time consuming so the devs decided to scrap it entirely instead of wasting precious dev time on trying to recreate the system in the RE engine
      This is not to say that it could not have been done nor is it to say that they did not try hence the moves you talked about in your original comment as scraped shit has a weird way of finding its way back into games all the damn time but the devs decided it was not worth the hassle to deal with the bugs that would come about from even attempting to incorporate inertia in the first place when the simpler and far easier solution was just to give moves more air time and control which is what they did
      And what modders are able to do with a game is irrelevant to this discussion because while yes they have been able to reintegrate inetra into 5 to my knowledge it was a very rocky start filled with bugs that have only just begun to iron themselves out of inertia mods which are all bugs that the original dev team never had to deal with because they scraped the system

I can't even decipher half of what you're saying in this comment, so I'm gonna ignore the parts that barely make sense or where you repeat yourself for no reason. I know and very well understand what you initially said to begin with, and I'm saying you're wrong. Not even gonna bother reiterating on what I've already said. Also if by distortion you're talking about DT distortion, that's only in DMC4. It's not in 3 or 5. So unless you're talking about something else, you're really bringing into question the validity of even your basic understanding of DMC. Either way you really overestimate how difficult it would be for the devs to look into the source code of DMC4 and just get an idea for how it works lol. But again it's not just a system. Sure it's probably in part the physics system that makes inertia functions exactly as it does in DMC4, but I've already said it doesn't need to be exactly like 4 to be good. Also it wasn't THAT rocky of a start for the inertia mod. It wasn't the greatest, but of course it fucking wasn't they were using a hex editor. Do you even have the slightest clue how hard it is to make mods with a hex editor vs making something with the actual source code? If they had proper mod tools or the source code it wouldn't have even been half as difficult as it was. Also you sure do love putting words in the devs mouths. I haven't seen anything about them saying it was glitchy or not worth it. They said it was a design decision, not a logistics thing, so stop putting words in their mouths. The more you talk the more evident it is you don't even have a basic understanding of how DMC functions. Like what does giving moves more air time have to do with inertia? Where do those two things involve each other? Inertia doesn't help with air time, it simply helps with player control of positioning. DMC5's floatiness has the exact opposite effect. You've clearly never played any DMC ar a high level if you can't understand that. There are so many logical inconsistencies here as well. Like if there's a scrapped system for inertia that functions perfectly fine without mods that shows itself on random occasions and isn't in the slightest bit buggy, doesn't that mean they already recreated it in the RE engine? They recreated it from scratch exactly like you said already? Like how do you not see the issue here with what you're saying?
