- Driving Downtown Streets - State Street - Chicago Illinois USA - Episode 27.
Starting Point: State Street - goo.gl/maps/Wr... .
State Street is a large south-north street in Chicago, Illinois, USA
State Street shopping
State Street became a shopping destination during the 1900s and is referred to in the song "Chicago," sung by Frank Sinatra where Frank refers it to "State Street, that great street." In 1979, Mayor Jane Byrne converted the downtown portion into a pedestrian mall with only bus traffic allowed. Mayor Richard M. Daley oversaw the State Street Revitalization Project and on November 15, 1996, the street was reopened to traffic.[6]
During the second half of the 20th century, State Street was eclipsed by Michigan Avenue's Magnificent Mile as a shopping district. Various projects to restore State Street's glory have been met with some success, and the State Street corridor is gaining residential as well as more traditional commercial development. New York & Company, Old Navy, Urban Outfitters, and The Children's Place have recently opened up flagships on State Street. Borders Books had a flagship on State, but the Borders chain has since shut down. Today, the only two main department store chains that remain are Macy's (the former Marshall Field's flagship store) and Sears (now closed) on State. The department store chain Carson Pirie Scott closed their flagship store on State Street on February 21, 2007 after over 100 years of business in that location. The Block 37 opened in 2009, bringing with it a large group of upscale retailers to State Street, including Anthropologie, Puma AG, and Zara. On January 12, 2012, Walgreens's opened a flagship location at Randolph Street,[7][8][9][10] where it had previously existed from 1926 to 2005,[11] when construction of Joffrey Tower necessitated its demolition.

Chicago is the third most populous city in the United States. With over 2.7 million residents, it is the most populous city in the state of Illinois and the Midwestern United States, and the county seat of Cook County. The Chicago metropolitan area, often referred to as Chicagoland, has nearly 10 million people and is the third-largest in the U.S.[4]
Chicago was incorporated as a city in 1837, near a portage between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River watershed, and grew rapidly in the mid-nineteenth century.[5] The city is an international hub for finance, commerce, industry, technology, telecommunications, and transportation: O'Hare International Airport is the second busiest airport in the world when measured by aircraft traffic; the region also has the largest number of U.S. highways and rail road freight.[6] In 2012, Chicago was listed as an alpha global city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network,[7] and ranked seventh in the world in the 2014 Global Cities Index.[8] Chicago has the third largest gross metropolitan product in the United States-about $630.3 billion according to 2014-2016 estimates.[9] The Chicago metropolitan area is also home to several universities, including Northwestern University, University of Chicago, and University of Illinois at Chicago.
In 2014, Chicago had 50.2 million international and domestic visitors.[10] Chicago's culture includes the visual arts, novels, film, theater, especially improvisational comedy, and music, particularly jazz, blues, soul, gospel[11] and house music. It also has professional sports teams in each of the major professional leagues. Chicago has many nicknames, the best-known being the Windy City

Chicago really is the greatest city on earth! And Chicago really has two downtown's. The section south of the main branch of the river where the famous Loop is which holds the Financial and theater districts, Shopping, theaters and cultural places on State Street including the famous State Street Macy's store with it's Tiffany domes, atrium's, fountain and Walnut room. Then we have Jewelers Row, All the Metra Terminals that surround it over and under the city. All the CTA El trains and Subway lines converge there plus Millennium Park and the Museum Campus, Northerly Island and Soldier Field. Plus many of the world tallest towers and underground roadways. The Pedway. The River walk and outdoor art sculptures. And LaSalle Street known as the canyon due to all the buildings in the Finance District exchanges more money than any place in the world including Wall street. Plus the many different draw bridges.
Then the section north of the River's main branch has Michigan Avenue (Magnificent Mile) worlds best shopping street plus Oak Street VERY exclusive shopping. The night life of Rush and Division Streets, River North Art District and Furniture districts, Restaurant Row/District and the Gold Coast plus more super tall towers every where. And Navy Pier! Plus more beautiful beaches and lakefronts on both parts of Downtown .
Take a great boat tour on the river/lake or one of the cool bus tours. Go to Navy Pier or Millennium Park or to the observatory at either the Willis or Hancock towers. Go to one of the many world class museums or theaters or to Lincoln Park Zoo. Shop on the Magnificent Mile "Michigan Avenue"or Oak Street in the Gold Coast or State Street in the Loop or maybe Jewelers Row on Wabash in the Loop. Take an El train or Subway ride. Walk the River walk or along the Lake or hang out at one of the many beaches. Go to an art gallery in the River North Art District. I love great architecture so Chicago is perfect for that plus I love that is has many of the worlds tallest towers. And I love trains and Chicago has a huge mix of different kinds of trains all over! Best worlds best food, shopping, museums, parks, theaters, etc
Great summary of things to do! Appreciate the detail here and thanks for sharing it! :)

Great city. The best of USA in my opinion.
I think this city is like God's Gift - The Center of The Universe. Do you agree!? (Just about exactly like Toronto, Canada;D)
Hell no!!!!

omg this city looks so amazing!!!!!!!! and this is just one street!! hope to visit this year
I like this video. My, late maternal grandfather used to live and work in Chicago, before coming to Canada, in the early 1900s. He came from Poland. I have been to Chicago twice, but that was only at the airport.
Even thought I've never been in Chicago but I like from playing Midtown Madness.
Always liked chicago. My bodyguard was filmed here. A lot of great 80s movies were filmed here such as breakfast club, weird science, Red heat, endless love., sixteen candles, and the blues brothers just to name a few.
We were in Chicago in the Summer of 2016....awesome city:)..!
old buildings, but very tranquil.
I really enjoyed this video, it was so peaceful and relaxing just to watch a video without the noise pollution pounding in the background. God bless from Australia!
It's gets very busy after 3pm I love to ride my harley through the city and see all of the wonderful people from around the world witch makes America beautiful.
Frank Sinatra sang to songs about Chicago. "State Street that great street" that is part of one of the song lyrics.
cool!
Wow... Amazing streets even roads r very smooth and excellent place to drive the cars...
Chicago is probably the only big city in USA that gives me a "New York" vibe! I've never been in USA but I hope I can visit some day
Renato Pereira better than NY.
Not as cluster fucked and cleaner. We have actual alleys
@@dab0331 A lot of US cities are better than NYC in my opinion.

It’s not better than NYC. Chicago it too small compared to NY. NO competition. Please stop with the Chicago vs NY comparison. Both are great cities but there’s nothing like NY. NY’s skyline is so big you can’t even capture everything at one shot. Chicago has a beautiful skyline though
@@mbaham85 ya nothing compares to New York.

thanks for this show
It's like time machine, back to 2016 when everything was sane.
Great vedio thanks for sharing
I prefer a thousand times to live there than in New York because this city looks calmer, cleaner, safer and you can appreciate that the environment is not so polluted but I feel it for New York because that city is chaos, a lot of traffic and security is the worst ... so Chicago over there I go in the future
José Gabriel Lugo Uribe yea it’s pretty nice but not all of it New York is much safer than Chicago
See the drivers who drive like wow👍
wow i love american . chicago.new york all is amazing
Hello from Ukraine! Great city. The best of USA in my opinion. Really!

omg. i love it. hope oneday i can arrive herw
Arguably the finest city in America. But the taxes are insane.
In Iran, you see nothing but brown walls, broken asphalt and delapidated abandoned buildings
But Iran also has a beautiful language and beautiful landscapes.
Hey, great video ! I was wondering if I could use a part of this video for a school project. I won't modified it, won't published the video anywhere, won't get pay for it and I'd credit you at the end of the video. Is it okay? Thanks
Good city drive
I like Chicago

On State Street, that great street, i just wanna say that do things that they never do on broadway 😝✌️
Heaven
Nice but I like small towns rather then huge buildings
I really love America will ireally step to this place😻😻😻😹
Chicago is great! Not as crazy and busy as NY and a lot friendlier.
A Great Downtown and when Baseball season is on you’ve got to go to a Cubs Game. The stadium is downtown in the heart of ChiTown. So convenient you can walk there from Downtown. You can walk in Chicago. As you can see they don’t have masses of pedestrians like NY.
Chicago is my kind of Town!
That toddlin Town! Big enough to be a major city but not crazy busy like NY or LA. Too many people in NY and traffic. LA is too much traffic and everything is far away. You can’t walk anywhere and driving is horrible. Sure, the weather is great but that’s about it.
The downside of Chicago? In the winter those buildings act like wind tunnels and some fierce windchills develop as a result. Walking downtown in winter 🥶 is painful. The Windy City is right.
The upside is they have great restaurants and deep dish pizza is incredible! And you can find it everywhere.
I like Chicago!
I like of Chicago😍😍😍
I wish I could visit this country...But how!!!!
Pray to God.
Sabry Morcy Marry an American
I wish for myself one DAY i will be there
niceExcellent section, but if possible, visit the commercial markets and places such as the bustling streets of Las Vegas

What's the name of this game??
What's strange to me is that the taxis in chicago come in many different colors. There not all just one color like in new york. I wonder why that is.

Listening to Homecoming from Kanye
No crowded streets like in New York?
alfalfafalafelmafia trust me, it's gets busy as hell after 2 or 3pm. Especially on a Friday.
That is the problem with NYC too many people
alfalfafalafelmafia Chicago is a very 9-5 city. between 7:30 and 9 in the morning it's insanely busy. From about 9:30-2, the city is almost entirely quiet, a lot like the video. Afternoon and evenings can be he'll though. Especially on weekends!
If Chicago ever got too be like NYC I would leave and I know many who feel that way
I am American army in comondaws long live my country

Man I really do miss this city, I hope it doesn't continue to deteriorate to a toilet city like Detroit.
CoopyKat do you know the safe areas of Chicago?
Yandoff smiff anywhere north
@@GSM92 downtown is safe, and pretty much anything on the north side is safe except for part of Rogers Park which can be kinda rough. Stay away from areas on the west and south side like Englewood, Austin, Chatham, Auburn-Gresham, and Lawndale. Pretty much all the crime you hear about in Chicago happens in those neighborhoods and really just those neighborhoods. The rest of the city is fine and relatively safe
I have a dream. Visit United States. But is so hard :-(
