  • Erwin Mortier's 'Shutterspeed' concerns a young Belgian boy called Joris, and the last summer of his childhood. It is certainly an elegiac novel, light on detail but heavy on feeling and emotive elements. If that's not your cup of tea, perhaps take a pass on this one - it's a good read, but frankly I doubt whether it will stick with me for very long.
