Hijiyama's story is really him coming to grip with who he really is and what he is really passionate about. It's a love story as old as time. As he discovers his feelings for, and pursues and finally wins, his yakisoba pan.
Regarding Okino's re-use of the Diemos game, it was this fact and Shinonomi's intervention afterwards that resulted in Diemos actually appearing. It's heavily implied that she wrote the Diemos code that uses the game assets to attack the city. I'd guess she did it due to having dispaired in humankind (probably becuase something 2188's Ida did - he is implied to have toyed with her emotions, or something like that, in that recording we watched in Yuki's story)
I love them together, as well! But when I think of who my favorites are, I feel so guilty like trying to pick one of my children (that I don't have) over the others. They are all so precious! I am still awaiting Gotou's story, though. I don't know him well enough to have much of an opinion yet.
So, They hinted at Okino being a lazy genius before. once when he was rooting around ogata's brain he said he could do something differently but it'd be a lot of work (paraphrasing) and again when he was being praised for his Sentinel work he says he just copy and pasted things from the deimos (paraphrasing). I didn't catch them until watching your playthroughs. sorry for posting twice I just really thought it was interesting.

When 426 was talking about "the game" I was thinking of it more in the metaphorical sense, like how Sherlock would say "The game is afoot." Can't say the clues weren't there before this reveal... Having watched your SOMA playthrough recently, I'm fascinated by the parallel between the Ark in that game and Project Ark here. A dwindling chunk of humanity committed to it, then there were second thoughts that led to someone getting killed. Lots of people, in this case, though it seems like these guys at least got the project (game?) launched with a bunch of consciousnesses into it.
Yeah, that's why at the end of the SOMA playthrough I recommended this game (and an anime as well) but couldn't really say exactly why I was recommending those. But I really like exploring this kind of story.
I'd recommend rewatching Yuki's Suspicious Pills event as it has relation to something in this episode. I really love how the non linear story telling adds different context to every scene, but it also makes it hard to remember everything that has already happened.
I really boggles my mind to think how much time and thought went into putting all of these events together, thinking about all the different orders that players might go through these events. It's really quite impressive!
@@bunnytails If I’m being honest here, I’m surprise I haven’t seen any let’s plays or streams of this game that involves the player using a legitimate white board or one of those boards you stick a bunch of pins and connect them with string (cork board?) for all of these plot points.
@@pandanoko729 Haha, true! But honestly you would need a HUGE ass white board for this massive story. Some of my viewers did mention that they kept notes when they played, though, and suggested I do the same. I didn't end up doing that, though, for better or worse! :P
@@bunnytails Yeah honestly it would be a bit of nightmare keeping and organizing notes for this game and you’d need to literally make your whole wall into a whiteboard, so you’re more or less better off sticking with the timeline the game gives you as a guide, although the 2188 messages will be difficult to track. Honestly, it might be a good idea to do a final stream of understanding the full timeline of 13 Sentinels including checking out the interviews with the creators that help explain some things here and there as well as possible questions you may have.
Getting the change for lunch and giving the car treats are the hardest puzzles in the game. It's weird that these difficulty spikes are just about the lowest stakes in the game.
To be fair to Hijiyama, it would be very confusing to find out the super cute girl you were falling for was actually a man in disguise. I personally think a little less naivete and a little more denial in the writing and the performance would've taken out some of the moments of "Oh my gosh, just figure out you have feelings for him!" That being said, Hijiyama is still the best comedy in the game for me. Between Okino's teasing, his attempts to keep up with the technical jargon, and of course YAKISOBA PAN!!!, he easily got me laughing the hardest throughout this whole affair.
