Hey everyone! I hope you enjoyed this video and consider dropping a like or subscribing. I had a ton of fun making this video, especially since it got me back into listening to Prince after a few months away from his discography. In fact, I even put together a UA-cam Music playlist of some of my favorites by him (or associated acts) that you’re welcome to check out. The link is in the description/under this comment. You’re also welcome to check out my patreon or sign up for a channel membership if you wanna go the extra mile in supporting this channel. The aforementioned Prince playlist: music.ua-cam.com/play/PLOuLiQY-wEh_bdzQmPGs9ueeip0lONfae.html&si=W6aDge8sufhEEWXK
Labyrinth, actually. Not because it’s good, but because Bowie COMMITTED to being Jareth in a way that was both fascinating and slightly terrifying to me when I was little 😂
As it should hahahaha. For what it’s worth, the extended version of the music video is a lot of fun. We’re talking Prince dressed like the Joker, exploding cigars, monkeys on set. It’s great
I've always found it weird that auteur theory discribes a director with a strong style. but that only applies if the movies themselves are critically acclaimed. if they bomb, or like transformers movies- are seen as low art- then they don't count. even if they are, in many cases, just as much a product of their director as tenet or the godfather. also it only applies to movies. which is a shame. I've seen many episodes of tv stand out because the director had a clear artistic vision. also both my parents and myself love a hard days night, so you're not alone.
Hello fellow AHDN enjoyer 🫡 And yeah, that’s how I feel about it too. I like the term, but I also think it’s almost hypocritically shallow in how people choose to use it haha. Lindsey Ellis once did a great essay that I had originally namechecked here (before cutting that for time) on auteur theory that gets at the same thing. She talks about how, as much as people might hate to admit it, guys like Michael Bay are technically auteurs
Hey, Just to add my two cents. I also think an issue with glorifying auteurs is that is puts too much emphasis on signatures, which can be detrimental. For instance, Guy Ritchie has a signature style which works well for heist/gang films but when he used that style in King Arthur it didn't work. I think auteur should just be a category of director that doesn't inherently mean that they are better, or worse, than anyone else; because, I think it would be just as impressive for a director to be at the other end of the spectrum and be able to make films in different categories and styles, so they are nearly unrecognisable, as it would be to maintain a signature style.
I don’t know if I’d call it my favorite of his, but it’s definitely genius! My current favorite is Anotherloverholenyohead, and my favorite for the longest time was She’s Always In My Hair
He has made a few movies. Mainly documentary styled movies. I wouldn’t call his works great except his SOTT concert movie. Prince did a test movie before purple rain, under the cherry moon, Graffiti Bridge and the movie 3121 which has never been released. He did put a “movie” for the love symbol album “the 3 chains of gold.”

there are not enough essays about Prince as a topic music or otherwise on this site how this has so few views is a mystery to me, great stuff
Glad you enjoyed this video!

Is it a sin to say that the only exposure to Prince I've ever had is the Batman soundtrack?
Not at all! While it isn’t one of his best, I actually love that album. Partyman, Vicki Waiting, Lemon Crush Scandelous - all bangers!
@@NicheCaesar Partyman I do like. If only because it makes me picture middle aged Jack Nicholson dancing around like a madman

@@NicheCaesar I shall check it out!

Nothing bc he isn’t a filmmaker
