So here are the typical spots you should look for when tracking zander.
The island downstream
The downstream areas of the islands are excellent flood spots because not only do they often create a vast area of calm where fish can rest but also an area where food naturally accumulates. The meeting of the two current veins creates particularly interesting eddies to exploit.
The unhooked on the bank
Anything removed from the bank, no matter how small, can create a calm zone. Even if it is sometimes only a few square meters, this is enough to shelter some pretty zander.
The dead arms
On large rivers, backwaters are excellent winter fishing areas but even more so when there is a flood. The entrance channel is a great spot to explore first, especially if there is a difference in water clarity.

Ports operate in exactly the same way as oxbows, with the difference that the boats present, because they sometimes constitute homes, heat the water, which constitutes a significant plus in cold water.

When the latter is really strong, a calm zone is formed on a very marked bend which can retain fish.

Any sufficiently large obstacle in the middle of the river bed can become a spot during a flood. It breaks the current and forms a calm zone downstream which will allow a few zander to rest.

The locks
The locks, due to their operation and architecture, offer favorable shelter during a flood and will undoubtedly retain prey and predators. However, you should check the regulations to be sure you are not breaking the law!
The importance of water height
The identified spots will be good at specific times and should be visited at different times of the day but also during flood on a larger scale. Very often the height of the water and the clarity of the water is decisive in the performance of each spot, so remember to note your observations for future outings.
