It’s nice to see big cats accurately depicted on screen. It’s ironic, given its both a zombie and formerly domesticated, that this is a far more accurate depiction than what you usually see on screen. There are a lot of misconceptions and misunderstandings surrounding feline behavior. As someone who has both spent a lifetime caring for/studying and studying cats of all known varieties and a proud serval owner, it’s refreshing to see their unique attributes and signature tactics portrayed in a way that (mostly) aligns with reality. The only glaring issue here is the skull bite, but that gets a pass due to both context and the rule of cool. In any case, outside of said skull bite, this is a solid depiction of how felines behave when they comes across something they aren’t hunting purely to consume and don’t regard as a threat. If you spend enough time working with big cats or their smaller, feral relatives you will recognize this behavior instantly. For those interested, here are the specifics - In a fight between rivals, a hunt for food, or a defensive encounter felines don’t toy with their target and will usually go straight for the neck. Most of the time people see this as a cat purely seeking entertainment, but it has a practical origin: if a cat is wounded, knows their target can wound them, or doesn’t have the experience or knowledge to inform them one way or the other, they will seek to injure their target in whatever manner they can, (usually in a way that strips them of mobility), then either ambush later or stay at a safe distance until their target is sufficiently weakened. They will also do this in encounters where they know they are outmatched in order to either facilitate escape or even the odds. All you have to do to see this in action is to play with a cat of any size...usually they ambush and latch on before realizing the toy isn’t dying and then retreating to set up another attack. You’ll also notice that, (if the is cat familiar with the toy or recognizes a new one as such), that they will often strike with their front paws while rearing up to keep their head and neck safe before either going in for a bite to finish them off or resetting for another attack.
