      @@randyjordan5521 Hahah! First i thought its a joke describing this as a "monster hit" : Cause its a song I didn´t know at all.Especially Gaudio. And i´m right: It´s written by Neil Diamond and,for my opinion, not a very good one. Not the class and style of Gaudio. But it was a No1-Hit nevertheless. Maybe pushed by the funny mix with the Streisand-Version in the radio before

      You are absolutely right this man should be better known. He is by far one of the most successful music figures going back to the 1950’s when he wrote the big hit Shorts Shorts. It may not be a so called serious song but come on at 16 years old!!!! Yes 16 years old Bob Gaudio had a number three hit record on the charts. Hey you have to start some where. I’m mean come on look at Brian Wilson’s Surfin, its not the greatest ( I like It) but he receives so much more credit. Bob Gaudio was on his fourth number one ☝️ hit record when Brian Wilson was barely on his first.

    I think it's criminal that Rolling Stone magazine didn't list one song written by Bob Gaudio in their compiled list of the 500 greatest songs of all time. Gaudio is a musical genius. And melodies like Big Girls Don't Cry and Walk Like a Man, Silence is Golden among others prove it.

    I remember listening to the radio (AM, of course) in high school, and songs would come and go. One night about 7:00, they played a new song called, "Sherry." I was awestruck. I'd never heard anything like it. I waited for them to play it again, and it wasn't until around 9:00. I called the station to ask them to play it again. I must have stayed up until 2 or 3 in the morning waiting to hear that fantastic song and that amazing collection of voices just one more time. I'd never had this happen before, and it's never happened since.

    I consider Bob Gaudio one of the finest pop composers ever! And the Four Seasons' harmonies were just as tight and flawless as the Beach Boys. In short, I disagree with your statement.
    Here's one measure of The Four Seasons' greatness: The gorgeous single "Rag Doll" had the equally gorgeous "Silence is Golden" as its B side! That song went on to be covered by the British band The Tremeloes and became a #1 hit for them.

    The movie was a box office flop. Main reason is that NOBODY can sing falsetto like Valli and another reason is that the BASS was diminished in all the songs til the finale.
    Eastwood was the wrong choice to direct. (Valli did NOT like the movie and said so)
    They totally ruined the character playing Bob Crewe as he was NOT the "flaming gay"as the movie suggested. He was the genius producer of the 4 Seasons hits (R.I.P.)

      If you listen to the Original Broadway Soundtrack (produced by Mr. Gaudio HIMSELF) the person who played Frankie Vali actually did a stellar job imitating his falsetto. Also, the 2014 Touring Cast, which I went to go see last month, also did an excellent job as well. Hayden Milanes, who played Valli, did excellent. Obviously not as great as Valli himself, but darn close.
      I do agree that both the Broadway Versions (Touring and actual Broadway Production) were amazing and surpassed the crappy movie by a longshot.

    • @ghillie258
      @ghillie258 9 років тому +7

      Ok i just wanna point out the John Lloyd Young did a BEAUTIFUL job as Valli! The movie was by far the best i have seen in years. Young is the original broadway Valli so to those saying the original was better, he is the original. i believe that Young actually sang it better than Valli in some aspects due to that falsetto. i am not in any way trying to start a fight here, just stating my own opinion. the movie also was not a flop, recording well over 40 million in sales.

      Will Belles For me the movie was a godsend. Why? Because no way can I afford to travel to any big city where Jersey Boys is performed on tour. I live in a backwater in the back of the beyond. So for me, any movie of a Broadway musical is a godsend. I grew up on Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. My music. John won the Tony for his portrayal of Frankie. People don't win Tonys if they lack talent. He is the closest to Frankie I've heard. John nailed it. I love the music and the story. Some folks don't have money the way others do and thus cannot afford to see a stage play of this caliber. $5.00 or $6.00 for a movie ticket (I go to matinees) is all this poor hick from the sticks can afford. I love the movie.

    It's wrong to make comparisons of any group especially if those groups were highly successful. it just simply means that Americans are (at least back then) diverse in thier taste. To many people today feel their genre or artist should always rule the roost. What would it be like if everything you heard was Micheal Jackson, or some other group..All the time! You would go nuts! I'm afraid that's whats happening in the music industry today! Its not about whos better but who appeals to who!

    The movie was lacking . . . let's face it; the writing was boring, the acting was not convincing and the guy playing Frankie did not have a big enough voice. Still, I was glad I saw it because I love the music.

      It was good, but Frankie did not care for it.

    Hated the play Jersey Boys and hated the movie , no vibe at all , Jersey Boys sounds nothing like the real Four Seasons

    How could you let Clint Eastwood ruin the Broadway play with such a shitty movie production? What a shame. What a waste of time and money. You'd still be at the August Wilson Theatre if not for Senior Dirty Harry. Mama Mia had far more common sense.
