This is such a well behaved cat. I think you would have gotten away with just asking her nicely to pick it up from your hand. I'll have to give you mine for a model. He'll entertain everyone with his acrobatics.
Mine neither. She use to take her pills so well in soft treats but now she is elderly and her appetite is poor she doesn't like any kind of treat. Now I have to do it manually and it is so difficult. I can't even get her mouth open enough and she is fighting me the whole time. I'm so afraid I will hurt her struggling to get her meds into her.
My cat is PSYCHO with pills, scratching, escaping from all towel wraps and then ejecting the thing several inches out of his mouth. But this worked, thank you! I already had the pill gun tool b/c I knew he would be hard. One other tip that worked was to blow on his nose to make him lick it and swallow (got that from a different video).
My cat is the same way as yours, she very defensive and will absolutely not take any pills. How you popped that pill in her mouth was genius!! Thank God for that pill popper!! You did that vet well!!!
Thank you for this. My cat is evil beyond means. Covering the eyes and blocking his butt was super helpful. I used a large popper without the rubber tip and still worked.
Finally a video of someone doing this alone! Yet, it still does not work with my cat. I'm ruining the bond/relationship I have with her. Ten days straight and no success, even with a tiny syringe of water. My vet is useless in helping. At my wit's end.
I'm so sorry to hear that. Is there a way to get an injection instead of pills? Or compound in into a topical cream that can be applied to the ear flap?
Oh my gosh I love her so much, she is so sweet! My lil Chicken who passed away last year was fairly big as well so I found the pills a bit easier then now trying with my smaller cat. She really got that down well! I appreciate the video! 🖤
You're so welcome! Her name is Sasha and I'm so thankful that she is still with me. She has lost quite a bit of weight due to CKD but she's a strong one! I'm so sorry to hear about your loss :(
Yes the pill Popper can make things a lot easier since it gets back in their mouth further. You do have to work pretty quick though. I find it better to go on the side of the mouth. Some cats are definitely harder than others!
My cat just bit me hard, spit it out & ran under bed & has been hiding sad & depressed won't eat for days.. This does not work! Your cat will clamp their jaw shut.
yep didn't work for me whatsoever. My cat ended up having pancreatitis so he wasn't eating or pooping so I took him to the vet. They sent him home too early and then I had to take him back today. but out of the pills they gave me he took two out of the four times I've tried. The last time was Saturday night and he actually attacked me and pretty much bit at chunk out of my one finger so I hate upsetting him and I was pretty upset afterwards so he hid from me for a day. now after I took him to the doctor today they showed me how easy it was and I said yeah easy for you. so they gave him a few shots that he needed and an appetite stimulant and he's been eating a little bit here and there but I just try to give him his pill before I went to bed and his mouth won't even budge no matter what. it's very hard and frustrating because you don't want to upset your cat and make him worse because he's already lost 5 lb. it's just upsetting because I need him to take his pills and He hates wet food so I can't hide it in a treat or wet food
I just found your video when I needed to provide some training for my pet sitter team! I've subscribed to make sure I can always look up videos that help with providing great pet care for our clients. Thank you so much for what you are doing and don't stop!!!
I have the pill popper but my cat is squirmy from the beginning and VERY resistant to where you can't get your hand to th e back of his head. We've never had any problems the past 13 yrs till now.
The cat that is used in the demonstration is probably about 7 pounds and easily restrained. My cat is 15 pounds and quite strong. I have had limited success with the pill pockets and no success trying to wrap him up, hold his head still and get the pill in his mouth.
The taste if it's mixed with water would most likely make your cat foam to remove the nasty flavor, which is why compounding pharmacies make flavored liquids to give animals in place of pills, however not all medications are available in this fashion. If it works for you, go for it, but I'd venture to say that you can't accurately determine if the full dosage was administered or spit out. If you'd rather use a liquid, ask your vet if a compound is available!
Thanks for this demo. I tried with pill popper first time today before seeing this. I’ll try to improve my technique. Has to take Denamarin pill which is not big and cannot be crushed. He clamped down and it just kind of dissolved in his mouth; I’m sure it tasted awful, and he had that drool stress reaction. Pitiful. Dread it tomorrow morning but will try!
Omg sasha is beautiful. I am keeping my son's cat for the time being. His name is Jackson and he's a Norwegian forest cat I think that's what his breed is called. He's a big boy too!
Thanks a lot, your video really help.. Thank god I saw your video... I'm able to feed my cat pill and it only take me less 10second.. I was so worried my cat didnt want to take pill..
Sometimes I get lucky putting in mouth and just tapping there jaw and massaging while holding mouth . If they spit it out then the heavy duty way comes out lol
That's just how I deal with one of my monsters who won't take his meds. Sit on him, with my ankles crossed so he can't slink out behind me. Take a firm yet gentle grip across his face with my left hand. Pull back his head and press his jaws apart. The last bit is the hardest, as It's got to be really fast else he'll explode from my grasp like a 16lb black furry cannon ball!
where is the link to pill popper? Some cats will not cooperate at all and will not let their eyes cover up. By the way did you try to give pills pill pockets? I realized it was much easier than the product's video. Like giving you delicious homemade food that you can put a ball into it, but as if pill pockets is really meant for it and with a really strong scent that attracts them.
The link to the pill popper is in the description, but here is is again for easy reference amzn.to/2vbnZR0 ... also, I have a video on how to make DIY pill pockets. You can see it here ua-cam.com/video/MonfTOY_VS4/v-deo.html ... my cats eat the pill pocket from around the pill LOL so I have to use the pill popper
I'm surprised you're not using a blanket wrapped around her to calm and hold her - and keep those sharp claws down. It's much easier to restrain them that way.
I have to catch my cat, she growls at me whenever I hold her for longer then 5 min because she knows. I have small hands and I pray that I can get into position and set up before she goes bananas.

It is large, and what I gave her is a quarter of the pill! I did try smashing ti and putting it in her food, but she wouldn't eat the food :( I always try everything I an think of before forcing a pill, but sometimes you just have to

But my cat will NOT taste any of the bad flavor because it's in a capsule. And before I put it in in a pill popper, I put little bit of butter all around the capsule so it will easily glide inside the cat's throat. My cat is an F3 which is a 3rd Generation bengal. It is still wild and doesn't like being touch. I will put a video this week on how to do it.

She is doing well, actually. If you read through other comments on this video, you would have found out that she has thyroid issues that we have struggled with her whole life. She is now 18 years old and still happy and healthy and we have finally gotten her thyroid under control.
Yes, she is big... and it is something we have struggled with all of her life. When I found her, she was big and when I had her spayed she got even bigger. I have many other cats who are much more normal size for cats and I have a very good relationship with our vet. We have tried many different things over the years, and with some she did lose some weight. Unfortunately, she developed chronic pancreatitis and almost died because she wasn't eating. After going through all of the options with our vet, we decided that based on her health and her age (she is 14) that it would be better to let her eat what she wants to eat and hopefully not go through another bout of pancreatitis. She is large and there are many health concerns that come along with that, but she has a good quality of life right now and that is my main goal for all of my animals. This isn't the biggest she has ever been and that is all because I have worked with her in so many ways over the years. At this point she is eating and has full mobility, even climbs and jumps and she lets me know when something is wrong. I do appreciate your concern and I fully understand it, so thank you :)
My Furry Family thank you for telling me all that and I'm glad its not something neglectful being done to her. I hope she stays happy healthy and beautiful 😊
