My friends gave me 2 large gourds. They are drying in my living room. I don't have a cellar. One 1 on them top got moldy. What can I do to repair it? Can I cut the moldy portion off and cover it with anything? I feel awful, I want to make birdhouses. 😂
I have been drying a gourd and a little bit of the top bit is drying out i don't know which type it is it looks like a dipper gourd but the handle part is shorter about 6"inches long.
A bit off topic, but how important is it to have a bit of stem left on the gourd to dry it? I bought a few small gourds from the local grocery store last week and some of them don't have any stem at all. I know drying can take up to a year, but will they ever dry out or will they just eventually rot? I can't seem to find much on google about this
Yes! Letting the gourds soak for an hour or so with a wet towel over them (dry gourds float) and then scrub with a metal pot scrubbed to remove the moldy skin.
I am financially ruined. I bought gourd futures and need to sell them asap. Please hit me up, I have lost everything. The ornamental gourd market is crashing.
That's a really dumb idea. Beat the crap out of your gourds just to avoid a tiny little bit of work? How would a cement mixer give you the abrasive quality you need to scrub the surface? I hope no one is dumb enough to take your advice.

There is no difference in how they dry between having a stem or not!
How come if you boil the gourd it won't explode or crack or fall apart and do you boil the gourd when it is dry or when it is still green?
Cool. Thanks !
El agua es fría? Gracias ❤
