Citroen e-C4 UK review 2022: why it's not like other electric cars

  • Quirky looks and Citroen's signature smooth ride isn't enough to put the e-C4 ahead of electric rivals such as the VW ID.3, Nissan Leaf and Kia e-Niro.
    On paper, the e-C4 is pretty competitive. It offers up to 160 miles of all-electric range at a price that just creeps under £30,000. It also boasts 100kW charging, which isn't the fastest on sale but is pretty decent at this corner of the EV market. The e-C4 drives like a Citroen, too, with its incredibly light steering making it a breeze to drive around town and its silent nature only adds to the appeal. But it's not perfect, with a spongy ride and inconsistent battery range spoiling what could have been an effortless EV.

    I have owned an eC4 shine plus since September. I use the car for my daily commute from Crawley to Haringey. I have never had any range anxiety even when the temp goes down to -3 degrees. If you drive on eco you will get 190 miles as per the review. Don’t use the range mileage use the gauge instead as that is accurate. Apart from that I totally love the car and really pleased with the technology and comfort.

      Got just a used one with only 8000km and 12 months old with a 35% discount on the list price. These cars are flowing in from Sweden and Germany to Finland since they don't import tax the EV:s and also the Krona is down. Innitial impression is positive. Seats and the audio/command system were better in my MB ML, but in the city this one is easier to handle and perhaps third of the price to operate.

    I will purchase the Citroën e-C4 anytime above the competition ... Yes, you might get other brands cheaper but with no soul and spirit in design and function. You have to live with it and look at it everyday and enjoy it :)

    Hi everyone! Just want to let you know we’re aware of the audio issues (wasn’t helped by filming in what felt like a hurricane) and we’re aiming to get it sorted early next year. Anyway, what do we all think of the e-C4?

      Shotty infotainment. only 2g and 3g adapter which results in a SLOOOOW app.
      Fantastic comfort and it is just amazing to drive if you value that.
      Good thing: all of this should be able to be fixed with a quick update and well, a 4g adapter.
      Not hard to do.. but intil this is fixed? I'm seriously considering to sell mine.

      @@RomanRoman-xi3dv haha. I'm a geek. I like more function.
      Things I know they are working on though
      It says we should only charge it to 80 percent in the manual. Can I program it to do so? Nope
      I have to whip up first the app because I cannot see the battery percentage other than there. Remember 2g? Slooow process.
      Then the app for the home charger so I can see the charging speed. Then the calculator before I set the alarm..
      Both percentage in car and cut off charging is coming but after six months? Getting old.
      Update process? No OTA. Just physical whereas you have to buy a usb c 32 gb usb dongle. Nope.64 gb does not work with the file format, neither can you buy a 16gb as the files often is bigger than that. Common usb does not work, then you will ned a converter. Expect updating to take some time so have somerhing else to do meanwhile
      But driving? It is like driving a cloud. Amazing at everything there. Some odd placements of buttons but that isn't the worst. You can live with that

      @@Brandofviti i agree with everything. At the end of the day there was dilema for me. Have comftable ride and not warry about pot holes, and have uncomftable other user experience? Having in mind you can not have both - i test drove kona, ide3, tesla, and they all brake your kidney stone while driving....e choose to drive comftable, and wait longer for app to take my order. 80% charge i solved with wifi smart socket. I program it to cut power at 80% so there i am good.

      @@RomanRoman-xi3dv I know, and comfort is highly rated by me as well. Having said that.. I really like the renault megane e-tech coming now. I think I'll need to test drive it. If good enough comfort. I might just trade in the citroen. But if the comfort is lacking or.. like you aptly put it: breaks my kidney stones? Nah then I'll stay either until a car that meets my request comes, or until they fix the problems themselves.. :)

    I've owned a shine for 9 months range is fine but subject to driving style, don't like the sound of all those m25 emergency stops, less acceleration and braking use the regen button for stopping and range is fine. We did a 100 mile trip the other day in similar temperatures to this test and could have done the same again without charging.

    Why is the test car a 70 plate but the video dated 2022? The spec changed slightly in 2022 so this video is a bit confusing if you are looking to see the differences.

      I also chose between the two of them and I thought of the Kona because of the greater range. But then I sat in c4 and that was it. It offers so much comfort that the range means nothing to me on Konia. Kona is very compressed inside and smaller. Less space on the back seat, smaller trunk. And it also has a slower charge than Citroen, so I preferred a more comfortable car and faster charging than an uncomfortable car and longer range

      @@dodola9955 I am currently in the phase of waiting for incentives in Croatia, so I hope for a car sometime in the autumn :) ... But I tested it twice version of Shine equipment and I was surprised at how great it is. A lot of technology has been thrown into the equipment, literally everything has what you need. Plus that comfort that is incomparable to much more expensive cars. On you tube has tests from Bjorn on the you tube where he was also surprised by the efficiency of the car. It consumed very little at 90km / h, I think it is 13.7 kw / 100km of energy. I have an friend in Croatia here. In summer he goes to the sea vecation on a road 320 km away and his average driving is about 90 km / h. He came to the finish line with another 15% of the battery, so he could cover about 350 km. And of course the climate here was also on. If you are going to watch Bjorn or you are already on all these results, 4% is added as he says because he left so much in the battery that he does not stay somewhere on the road. I was thinking between Kona and Citroen, and then decided on a Citroen as soon as I drove the tests drive. I was test Ioniq 5 weakest version because the price of Citroen has risen this month in my country and the price was close. But even after driving the ioniq, the Citroen somehow suited me better. I know that Ioniq is the top of the technology at the moment, but I haven't seen an excessive difference, even Citroen is more comfortable and consumes less on the open road, and the speed of 100kw on the charger is more than enough :)

    Style over substance in my opinion, obviously quirks are what Citroen are know for but the short comings; range and performance, could be a major deal breaker for potential buyers, if it had an extra 50 miles of range and say sub 8 secs 0-60 it may be more appealing but as you say its becoming an incredibly competitive market.

    • @whatever-xw8cw
      @whatever-xw8cw 2 роки тому +4

      Naaaah, the range is more than adequate for me, I do not want to haul the extra weight that a bigger battery brings. Performance wise, it has enough to swiftly overtake a car on the highway, so that is OK. It is not a sports car, it aims more at comfort, and it nails that.

    • @YesAutoUK
      @YesAutoUK  2 роки тому

      Leaf offers up to 217 miles of range with the 62kWh battery. Given that the e-C4 costs just over £34,000 and that you can get a 217-mile Leaf for a little bit less than that, the Leaf (on paper) has the edge. There is a 40kWh option with 168 miles of range, but it's also considerably cheaper than the e-C4.

    I have had a e-C4 since May it broke down saying traction fault after 5 months 3000 miles, took it into Just Citroen Preston, got it back 5 weeks later, drove it for 40 miles over four days. Parked up with it in park while I got something out of the boot. Got back in and put it in drive. No power forward or backward. RAC took it back to Citroen Preston on 27th November. It is now 20th January and the car is still parked in the same place. Citroen haven't even looked at it yet? Sorry but Citroen service and customer care is terrible. Don't buy one.

    Never use the more effective regen mode B because it will consume more, like it does in every EV produced. You should coast, not regen. Use it when going downhill for longer times or one pedal city driving but that is for comfort not efficiency.
