saw Andy in Sydney Australia (the basement) it was magical, Rylynn still gives me goosebumps, the song was born in deep sorrow (the death of a friends little daughter
-i think) now her memory lives on & that sadness is behind Andy (i think)

Had the pleasure of seeing him play in the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall (Jacksonville, FL).
I'm 17 and I considered myself a pretty decent guitarist until I saw him and I felt like an infant with a guitar in my hands.
Every song he's written/transcribed is a masterpiece and he's such a chill guy.
I got him to autograph a CD and a poster for me. Definitely the best concert I've ever been to.

People keep dissing the percussion pop, but it is a style, and he has incredible flow with it. And also, every musician takes a little of every other sound they have heard to make a new sound. That is the art of music, an unsung collaboration of those that inspired you. Just fu#king enjoy it for what it is, great music by a great guitarist. And YES Totos Africa was epic.

play it often, if you give it a few years of intimacy you'll develop your own touch and sound quite well. it's about intimacy over time i think if you want sound like his. intimacy = focus for at least an hour straight. once you get comfortable playing guitar and you can play by ear decently i would recommend going out to find yourself a nice guitar that becomes your own and learn to take care of it. i wanna pick up an instrument once i settle down in my own house somewhere

Honestly, I was up late one summer night in 2006-2007 I believe, and as I flipped through a few channels I stopped on Carson Daly's Last Call. He was presenting Andy, whom I'd not seen up until that point. He played Drifting and my mind was as blown as it could have been without mushrooms. I called the lead guitarist of a garage band I was in at the time, he saw it, he came over and we talked about what we had just seen for 3 hours. After UA-cam became a thing I did, I found Andy again and he opened me to Don Ross, Antoine Dufour, Billy McLaughlin, Michael Hedges, and so many more

Solo steel string playing has really evolved! There have been unusual techniques springing up for years. Now that there are so many people doing it, composition and arranging has caught up with the technical wow factor. Andy is playing at an extremely high level of musicianship. His rhythmic groove is rock solid. He's a great player and arranger, great dynamics, the whole enchilada! I enjoyed the covers, and especially his own poignant tune at 24:22

  • @TheDeuceWins

I will not say Andy McKee is the best guitar player ever because there is no such thing.
His music forever changed my life and the way I looked at true music. I watched this for the first time just now and while listening I found myself lost in the notes. I felt the music in a way I have never felt music before.
He has influenced me to play music that requires no lyrics, the stories are told through the sounds and feelings in a song.
Andy McKee is a visionary, not the best guitar player.
