Robert literally was horrendous at guitar, but became the greatest after he went to the crossroads. He said himself that he sold his soul. Your arrogance is blinding you. He was so bad his neighbours would tell him to stop playing, if you think you can go from that to the greatest guitar player in a year you know nothing about music or you've never worked hard for anything in your life. No matter how hard you work, it takes a very long time to become that amazing at something

I'm not a Musician, so I'm not gonna talk like I know that scene. However, I apply any skill with the 10,000-hour rule. It takes someone at least 10 years to master a certain specialty. However, somebody can pick up a new skill and master it in less than a year. That is if you're a prodigy. Maybe Robert did practice like hell to get that proficient. Maybe not. At the end of the day, it's also possible he did sell his soul to the devil. The story is intriguing.

You must not be too much of a fan of Folklore or stories. People, most people, can understand that, that is exactly what may of happened. But a story of a man that couldn't play for shit, leaving to study his craft, coming back and seeming different doesn't come close to being as interesting as what his story was turned into. He is a legend just as the man who created the blues with rock still having some of his formula . But he's more of a legend turned into a Folklore. Now as the man who at a crossroads sold his soul, becoming a guitarist that changed the whole game without warning. Personally I prefer the story, plus I grew up with Southern roots.

As a martial artist _and_ a firearms instructor...
Most people vastly misunderstand the idea of "practice".
Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent. Bad practice habits will never develop good skills. You can practice throwing a million punches, but once your crooked wrist is done healing incorrectly and you challenge a real fighter to prove your worth... you will have your ass handed to you on a silver plate. You might discover a trick or two, but that's it.
Martial arts, music, art, science... nothing is invented and perfected by one person. It takes ideas from many, people sharing ideas to build a foundation of knowledge and passing it on and teaching it to others. That is how you develop skill, that is how Bruce Lee became a warrior, how Humankind stepped on another celestial body, how Leonardo created works of beauty that last to this day.
Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil. Haha
    ...
Or he found a damn good teacher and refused to ever tell.
Point is... No. Not anyone can practice anything and become a legend. A single human can only accomplish so much alone. We need eachother to go far.

I strongly believe that he is just that determined to learn how to play like he would be the best. I don't think he sold his soul to the devil. I believe he found his style after days and months of practice.
I play the guitar too and if you just have the focus and all of the ideas on how to use the guitar properly, you'll play better in less than a year too.

The documentary doesn't do the story justice.
He wasn't a "novice" guitar player.
He was absolutely horrendous. People would throw things at him and run him off because he was so bad. He comes back a year later playing like he's been playing for decades.
He outright says he sold his soul to the devil in his songs but you don't believe him?

@@remmy3571 what you guys don’t know is that people use this shit for attention. And he started this. People claim they sold their soul, Christian’s look into every little detail about the music and find “satanic” things and the artist gets attention and money off of it.

People don’t get it. Robert Johnson wasn’t musically gifted nor he made a deal with devil. He already knew how to play guitar but he was bad at it. All he did was go off town and practice as much as he could for a whole year with this guy called Ike. And naturally his practice paid off. I learnt how to play crossroad blues in less than 2 months and I’ve been playing for only 6 months.

I literally enjoyed this documentary, they meticulously portrayed every thick and thin of his entire journey. Robert had been a nomad to all his life and love was not in his destiny and he tried everything to hold that but things never landed on that surface and made him a greatest musician and a blasphemy person too.
i'm not sure whether he did a deal with devil or not but blues was in his vein. I might say, to achieve that greatness one must be ready to sacrifice for everything.....
