    Tezzeret is one of the few villains in MTG that they gave an actually sad background to. Most of the other main story villains either dont have deep backstories for their villainy, they didnt have it all that bad and just did evil, or they're Phyrexians. At least in the modern stories anyways.

    Tezzeret has had a lot of chances to "intern" for different evils. He should learn from that and become actually competent evil. No demonic deals like Liliana, no attacking entire planes like bolas, no reaching through the mulitverse like Elesh, no challenging elder dragons, old walkers, Eldrazi, angels, phyrexians, timetravel or gods.
    I really hope he just starts doing politics and somehow recruits minions and tools for power. He might be the perfect antihero to chase down phyrexian Jace.

    man tezzeret really got thrown into the most mediocre storyline for over a decade. being the generic bad guy second in command to the big villains really wasn't who he was.
    reading Test of Metal really shows how tragic his backstory is, but also is an excellent character study. he is not nearly as 1 dimensional as he is portrayed in the more modern stories. he does care about others that help him, and has deep respect for those who wield power gracefully and without tyranny (he adored and assisted Sharuum on esper for little personal gain, and revered her power but fairness and grace). he seeks power because as a child he had none and at every step it was taken from him. he is fine with playing the loyal minion role because it keeps him out of the crosshairs of heroes and larger conflicts yet he often ends up stuck in those roles far more often and for longer than he would like. he is never portrayed as powerfully as he was in Test of Metal (exceptional power derived from large amounts of etherium, cunning surpassing even Bolas, and even chronomancy taken from beating Silas Renn).
    I hope his next story ark is more faithful to his character and backstory, and really shows his power but also his admirable qualities. being one of the few planeswalkers with a spark, a planar portal built into him, a virtually indestructible body save for his head, a plethora of magic available to him from artifice, mental, temporal, and various others, and virtually limitless mana from etherium and the exceptionally rare knowledge of its creation; should really make him a major story character. not good, not objectively evil, not actively destroying others, but not helping either, I could see him swinging towards being good given his actions during ONE, perhaps with other multiversal threats like emrakul and so on.

    I could see a 4 or 5 cost esper Tezzeret planeswalker with an indestructible ability.

    • @XenithShadow
      @XenithShadow 11 місяців тому

      Maybe, but indestructible on a planeswalker is either pointless as it just loses all its loyalaty and is then force sacrificed, or it also has prevent all damage dealt to it in which case its broken with very few answers as it cant be killed aside from forced sacrifice or exile effects.
      If he's lost his spark then being indestructible would be fine.

      @XenithShadow I figured it would be along the lines of Gideon of the trials, 0 ability.

    • @XenithShadow
      @XenithShadow 11 місяців тому

      @@NickNames-x1m The issue with gideon's versions of indestructible ability is he becomes a creature and then attacks. Thematically i'm not sure tezzeret wants to attack as a creature.
      You could give him gideon black blades ability where he is a creature on your turn.
      The issue is that mechanically a "gideon" style planeswalker is likely just worse than a desparked version on the same planeswalker since planeswalkers are probably easier to kill than indestructible creatures.

    Tezzeret is and will always be my favorite character.
    He had the balls enough to pretend to be the phyrexians slave & ended up getting that Portal inside him, which was killing him removed and a freaking Darksteel Body. Let's fucking go!

Even made a 3d model of a dnd character heavily inspired by his appearance and lore.

    18:50 CAN Tezzeret use his Planar Bridge to travel? As I understand it, the bridge obliterates all organic material that gets transported using it, and Tezzeret still has fleshy bits to his person. We saw this with Vorinclex on Kaldheim needing to find organic material to reform himself after being transported there.

    I don't know, Personally, I just can't see Tezzeret as a major villain like Bolas and so on. And i think that's kinda the problem with the story of a Magic today. There are no major big time villains. Sure, it's fun to see others like Tezzeret and Ashiok step up and play as the big baddies in a story of a set but to me they just don't feel like big time villains like a bolas and so on. This is a chance for Wizards to do two things and that is number one, Create a new big time villain or number 2, Bring back some of the older characters that played as big villains in the past that we haven't seen or heard about in a very long time or they can do the safe thing and bring back characters back like bolas or emrakul. I'm just saying that Magic needs these huge big time villains again. Instead of these smaller ones. Personally, Out of the villains Magic had Bolas will always be my favorite. You never knew what bolas was planning and what he was up too or going to do next. And i don't think anyone actually knew what his ultimate goal or end game was and if you say that you do or did then I'm sorry your lying. Anyways, I love to see a new big time villain that's just as cunning and diabolical as Bolas was but not be a duplicate or as the same as bolas if that makes any sense. I don't want a bolas 2.0 version. Just someone as powerful or even more so and a great mastermind as Bolas was and maybe even more so.

      According to an old and trash card (cant remember the name of it) from Old Alara, the esperites could navigate grixis without too much trouble from the undead as the etherium made them more robotic and less fleshy because it hinders the scent of their souls. If Tezzeret goes full trans-humanist (a controversial topic about replacing all body parts with mechanical parts for the sake of "upgrading" thyself), then Kaya MAY do some damage, but not out right one-shot Tezzeret. And by that point, Tezzeret would planeswalk away from Kaya, potentially leading her into a trap since apparently she has the brain power of a potato during the climax of activating the sylex near the worldbreaker's core.
      Tezzeret not only has indestructible, but imagine if he also had the power of "prep time" like how batman does when fighting more powerful foes.

    Tezzy is one of this villains I find difficult to actually call a villain. Yes, he isn't a good guy, but he's by far not as evil as he may appear. Yes, he has assisted evil characters, but the most grievous one with the Phyrexians was due to his life being on the line. Without Darksteel, he was going to basically implode on himself due to the Plannar Bridge.
    Tezzert doesn't really want to deal with anyone he doesn't has to, man just wants to live in peace.

      I think it's also fair to say that he has a subconscious desire to show everyone that he's the best. He was a Scrapper of Tidehollow, effectively the lowest caste of beings on Espur. While Silas Renn and those of his ilk were praised for their hard work and inducted into the ranks of the Seekers, Tezzeret was ostracised and shunned despite showing similar aptitude. He wanted to show others like him that they weren't born to be Scrappers: they could be what they chose provided that they worked for it. His hunger for power, while stemming from a belief of might makes it right, was only exasperated further from the aforementioned shunning and later learning that the Seekers purpose was a lie. It makes me wonder, what if he had a genuine friend? Would he have still done the things he did?

I imagine he'll continue to hunt and create unique and powerful magical artifacts, and we'll see the re-emergence of old ones too. As long as he can keep the powerful telepaths at bay, I imagine he'll be pulling the strings on a lot of events going forward from the shadows. I really like that he doesn't let his pride get in the way of his ambitions, even willing to work for others more powerful than him if it gets him closer to his goals. Its refreshing not have a villain not consumed by pride, but still willing to do anything to get what they want. I hope they give him a good story and don't forget about him like they did Vivian in War of the Spark, the makings of a great story are already planted
