Great video had no idea google was still so deeply entwined in LineageOS w/o GApps/microG.
Same :o so annoying that it is so hard to get rid of google :( why can't they just sell their software and get paid that way? :(

@@AnonymousGentooman I wish, my S9 is completely unrootable. Really hurts because it's a great phone minus Samsung's software.
@@AnonymousGentooman or if your phone has an impossible-to-unlock bootloader (thanks, huawei)
If your phone is newer-ish with android 9+ it probably has Treble and can run phone agnostic generic system images (GSI), it's not as good as model specific builds, but better than nothing
A OnePlus 7 Pro has killer specs and can be had at under $300 to run LineageOS. I got mine for that!
Quick note: private DNS is really easy to setup yourself. I am using Unbound, which supports DNS over TLS, running on debian buster
Use DNS over HTTPS to get around firewalls
Thanks for this vid; really good stuff. I didn't know that even LineageOS without GAPPS still had this much Google stuff in it.

6:10 watch out! almost all devices since like 2016 are "arm64", not "arm"! Dont choose the wrong one! You can google your version
I can _what_ my version, again?
I loved this video man, keep it up :)
thanks for this video, i just installed lineage on my new OnePlus and i knew you made this video
The only issue is since the system changes being made are manual they're going to have to be redone every time you update LOS as the installer script is just going to blindly overwrite everything. Why not use Magisk to systemlessly make these changes? Yes you have to reflash Magisk after an LOS update but I imagine that's much quicker.
Modifiying the /system/app folder since it can be overwritten by an update
Most of the time i would recommend installing magisk and making a module for it
(Modules can also just be an android update zip, but the magisk spec is preferedd)
There is also a module made for replacing the systemwebview and the web browser with multiple chromium browsers to choose (use vol keys to choose)
i agree with you in this
I don't know what Magisk is but if it roots your phone then you are extremely foolish if you subsequently use that phone as your daily driver with all of your personal information on it. The lack of root is there for a reason, it's to protect your data.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 magisk is like supper su app and it has modules just like xposed has modules those modules are additional apps that can be added to get extra functionalities like to customize statute bar
@@mangenshinobi1567 Understood, and thanks for the explanation. I would, however, still be wary of an app that grants superuser permissions on a phone.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 you're welcome
i agree in your idea to keep away from that effect i think you want that to keep security of your phone
Very good and informative video! You should also do one on the "x192/universal-android-debloater", which is a desktop app that can disable/uninstall system apps without requiring root. Very useful to debloat an Android device that comes with lots of unneeded apps that cannot be disabled otherwise.
Man your thumbnails are 🔥
super helpful. had no idea lineageOS wasnt degoogled...
Boss Frogg. Outstanding.
How does this differ from the /e/ project in terms of how little google software is included relative to Lineage?
The Google and Vodafone supl-servers are exactly the same.
Both hosted by Google, at the time of writing this even the same IPv4 Adress.
Now I really lost all respect for Vodafone. They cant be arsed to host their own servers?

Is there a way to like isolate g services in a virtual environment so you dont need to have it on your main system?
Please explain to me how you're supposed to use a domain name as a DNS server. Something ain't right here.
Excellent! Thanks.
But why doesn't it come completly De-googled in the first place ?
Unfortunatly my device is not supported,
Have you played with phones like the punkt mp02 or light phone? Those look interesting to increase privacy.
I had issues with private DNS setting on multiple devices. When setup everything works fine but after some time internet doesn't work
Can you tell me how to remove a faulty app that is like 1 K In size that won't uninstall correctly? (I have lineageOS, and Root.)
You are a gem and thank you.
For anyone running lineageos on a Oneplus 7 or 7t do you lose support for warp charge when installing this rom. I just downloaded everything i need and backed up my phone and read somewhere that you lose fast charging.

doug demuro? that you?
Why did you download bromite with the ARM architecture?? Shouldn't you be using the ARM64 version?
I have heard about people running google services in a sandbox environment on lineage. do you have any experience with setting up a phone like that?
Thanks for the video!
On "official" lineage os most of these should be easily changeable from settings. Does anyone know what of these apply to official lineage os and if the situation has changed (for example if some of these settings are easier to change now?) - because If I am not wrong there should be no google apps on official lineage os so last point does not apply to official lineage os.
And how situation looks like in "LineageOS for microG" ?
Can you tell me what custom roms are completely degoogled like graphene?
Oh, and do you use a custom rewritten version of the classic lineage terminal, or did you build your own? @ 8:50

i like the way you say pictures (:
You know some way to unlock an rom of a old huawei without the discontinued key? I don't have it and the home launcher hates me
Awee senpai outlaw uploaded a new video ÛwÛ
Have you tried the camera application from lineage os?, when I've installed custom roms, It always looks like the open source camera apps they include is worse than the propietary one made by manufacturers.
yes, I didn't notice much difference, but I use Open Camera anyway.
From my understanding, phone cameras on their own aren't that good. You only get good pictures because of software processing, which is of course proprietary.
You may be able to find an implementation of Gcam for your phone though. I've never looked into it too much myself, since I don't really take pictures, but I've seen a bit of discussion on this on XDA.
@@lapin_noir it's Google so they may have issues with using it. Although, if you have the correct kind of phone, you can use Magisk to install its own camera app (it's true for Xiaomi and I think OnePlus phones), and use that directly, easy.
If you are using xiomi devices, there is a project called ANX camera. You need to flash the zip files. This gives you vendor supplied camera quality.
you can use camera px (a mod of google's camera)
I am having problem in my Mobile data after doing changes told above,

Thank you for showing me how to get Skynet off my phone.
do you have to do this after each OS update install?
U should make a video on how to flash costum roms and what are the alternatives for lineage os if my phone is now currently supported thanks 😊
My service won't connect after doing this. any ideas?
have you endured pain installing rom in Linux? I tried to open bootloader in xiaomi crap. I didn't succeed.

Can you update this video for more recent version of LineageOS?
Oh wow this video is way better than i thought.i thought you are just gonna say that just don't install gapps :D What dns server you recommend for privacy?
why not install LOS without google apps in first place?
Thanks for the awesome tutorial. Subbed

mmm.... learn a couple of tricks here, thank you so much
What camera app are recommend to use? because default one on Lineage is dog shit

Buck status: broken
That thumbnail made me laugh so hard
Can you do a video on Tiny Core OS? Its a 12mb linux distro, so the least bloated you can get
You didn't actually install the webview apk, or did I miss something?
I believe /e/foundation (yes the slashes are in its name) is de-googled out of the box and might be more what you are looking for.
I just use nikgapps with mine with core Gapps meaning sandbox apps and I can enable no permissions from Google.
It appears that Bromite has changed in some way. Now it doesn't appear to require root. That said, I still decided to go through the steps you did, and it tells me it's still Android WebView. I verified that everything was spelled correctly, etc. Any thoughts?
Same for me...
Is the limited connection normal? It did mess with my LTE as well... Is there a way to go back?
I have the same issue, did you manage to fix it?
I like your bashrc
Wait, isn't the Op7 Arm64?
I’m surprised you didn’t try and block access to all Google servers except for apps on a whitelist.
There used to be a way to change the permissions of an apk. I used to do this to prevent flashlight or bubble level apps from accessing the internet. The app that I used to use for this purpose no longer works, and apps that previously had their permissions changed also no longer work. Any ideas?
The version of LineageOS that I am running on my Pixel 4a now is 18.1 and based on Android 11.
There are settings under "Privacy" and "Permissions Manager" that allow you to control what apps can and cannot do (use the camera, access the flash drive, etc.) I think there has been something similar in there since about Android 7 or 8, but that should hopefully do what you need here.
Have you tried or looked at iodeOS? Its what I use on my exynos note 9. It uses microg and is based on lineageos but adds in a kernel level firewall that blocks any blacklisted connections.
I feel like all these ROMs are basically a dime a dozen, but someone just getting into this sort of de-googling thing will not have the best time using them over LineageOS. LOS is super compatible and widely used, and that helps in making this stuff easier on it, and my guy makes these videos for anyone interested in looking into something they can actually do, so LOS is the way. Also it's just a nice ROM. I'm not into Google-free, but I've used it with gapps+microG like a normie and it's hella stable and nice to use.
thank you :)
Can we log into our Google account with MicroG or does this ruin the Degoogled phone privacy
of course that will brake your privacy, it's like saying "hey google I have change my home, now here is my address it's me"
heads up that google supl server replacement is just the google supl server.
The thumbnail game is on fire
nice
I installed debloater but it says no root, and won't run.. I thought I had already derooted the phone as part of installing lineageOS?
How do I root the my android if I already have lineage on it?
Flash Magisk.
You could've used scrcpy instead of capturing through camera imo 🤧
my device isnt showing the root debugging
there are many custom roms i think this prosses is possible in any of them
Are ya sure you haven't forgot about underscores in captive_portal_http_url?
I thought lineageos has no google if I don’t flash google stuff lol
Where did you buy your phone? I've been looking for a new phone to replace mine, but I want to keep the price cheap. Thanks for the response if any
Xiaomi phones have great support with LineageOS and other custom roms once you unlock it. Just don't buy a Mediatek model. Aliexpress is your friend here. Check the phone's ROM support before buying it of course.
don’t support Xiaomi aka a Chinese government controlled phone manufacturer
@@More_Row If you live in the US, it is better than the glowies shit here. China can't do what the glowies can do here lmao. Most of the time phone with parts exclusively made in the US is pricy, and maybe have the hardware backdoor shit.
@@icepick2407 Not really, assuming you want to use Xiaomi phone in the States, the number one issue is band support. A lot of supplementary bands are not support at all. More over from a hardware backdoor perspective, how do you know that Xiaomi is not also working with big g in states lol? The only way to close the attack surface is not using a phone at all.

Can u make the same videos for lineage os 21 android 14 based ?
I think fairmail allows you to use gmail without being tracked.
15:01 I saw what you did there. I hope your doing that, Ethnically of course.
Are there any bootloader-unlockable phones with 5G on the market?
I unfortunately have Tmobie's version of the LG G7, which is the only one that cannot be bootloader-unlocked.
I would like to have a rootable phone with a custom ROM like Lineage OS, and it would be nice to have a relatively new phone with 5G. I know there are some old phones that are easy to unlock, but I'm not about to take a hardware nerf in order to have an unlockable phone, and selling my Lg G7 just to buy anothe LG G7 seems really silly.
Man, having phones tied to specific carriers is such an American concept, I couldn’t imagine having that. What a weird bevy of problems that presents.
@@voxelfusion9894 Thats what happens if you don't have EU to interfere.
Pixel phones: 5a, 4a 5g, 5, 6 (Verizon models will not allow you to OEM unlock, so get factory unlocked or look into other carriers which allow OEM unlocking)
OnePlus phones: 8, 8T, 9, 9 Pro, N10 5g(?), N200 5g(?) (factory unlocked or T-Mobile variants should work, with T-Mobile variants you will need to wait a week or longer depending on whether it's SIM unlocked and need an unlock token, OP doesn't use CDMA afaik so no Verizon/Sprint)
I assume recent top-end factory unlocked Samsung Galaxy phones also fit this fairly well, but I don't know for sure as I haven't messed with them. Wouldn't know any others off the top of my head.
Buying phones as someone that doesn't like Google or Apple sucks, lol.
with /system being RO instead of RW i cant switch the webview implementation truly a sad moment
Arm64 probably would be more fit for your device
ok but is there an alternative to gpay
Cant wait for deAppleing iPhone
I get the ntp, gps, webview and captive portal stuff, but rest is like "WHAT THERE THEY THINKING!!!!"
Seriously why it doesnt use dns from dhcp by default. Why it comes with google crAPPS by default !? I remember installing lineage 15 and it didnt come with g-crap included, was zip update with it to those who for whatewer odd reason decided they need those.
You are getting confused. GApps has always been a separate download to Lineage OS or to Cyanogenmod that was before it. What he is talking about here are additional settings in the phone that use some Google services like DNS, even when GApps are not installed.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 did you watch second part of video when he talks about "google phone app" and other google services starting with com.google.....? how those get there if lineage comes without google apps by default?
@@MRooodddvvv I assume because they are default settings inside AOSP. It depends what those services are, they can be relatively harmless if there is no Google identity to link them to. If you not have GApps installed, you do not have an identity linked to those services.
Looks simple enough.
