In my opinion, Hercules DJControl Inpulse 500 is still the best beginner controller. It has RGB performance pads, TS and RCA outputs, AUX and microphone inputs and easy to use loop buttons.
Absolutely! I had to switch to rekordbox unfortunately and for similar prices you get lower build quality, I miss my 500 so much, expecially those amazing rgb pads 😢

I've been DJing for roughly 1.5 years now and only now I have recently delved into DJ crates to level up my game 😂 Don't get me wrong, building sets from deep diving Soundcloud has been amazing but sometimes you REALLY need those high quality/extended tracks especially if you get offered to spin at venues!
Always appreciate your videos especially for budget friendly controllers. I have the FLX 4 currently as I just started DJing and my favorite gear from this video would be the DDJ REV7 or FLX10. My dream controllers I would like to get eventually down the road.
I'm just starting out and looking for the right DJ Equipment. This has help me decide on which one to get. Your tips not only from this video has help me especially with the knowledge and what I need to start. 😊
I bought the Flx4 one month ago And I am very happy with it so far. I think it is the best controller for beginners since you don’t get overwhelmed trying to undertand all the buttons On another hand, you can still remap it once you are doing more complex remix, for example the stems (I remap it in the Keyboard section)
I have the FLX10 and the only complaint I had they just fixed! The stem separation was not as good as serato, but with the latest update, the stem separation was improved, and now I feel absolutely spoiled playing on it! I am an open format DJ and the stem separation is a cheat code when mixing hip hop, scratching, or doing interesting mashups and live remixing. I recommend getting this controller as soon as you can, you will not regret it! 😤🙌🏽
I originally thought that the GRV6 groove circuit feature was silly and unnecessary, but hearing you and other DJs use it makes it sound so cool! I do think RGB performance pads are missing from that controller though.
I'm gonna say the FLX4 is my favorite controller because it can do everything most people need and it's so lights and portable you can take it anywhere.
Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 looks great! Never done any Dj'ing, but really want to try. What type of program do you recomend for connecting the gear? Is it best to use MacBook? -Seb
Stupidly sold my 1210's years ago. Replaced with an SB2 and then FLX4 which both work great. The auto loop on the FLX4 is really useful along with the Pad FX!
I have the FLX4, I'd say I'm a new intermediate DJ, and I can't lie, its great value for everything you can do! Spot on advice there Carlo! On the other hand, that FLX10... that is a beast! what an upgrade lol!
I've got to say that the DDJ FLX-10 has got to be my favourite controller. It's got all you can ask for and it's basically a DDJ 1000 on Steroids and more. This controller is so sick would be so happy if I could get one someday.
Most (if not all) controllers on the market work with VDJ, and allow full customizable mapping functionality. VDJ is unique in a way that because the versatility and how open the software is to let you do whatever you want, it’s hard to pin down “the best controller”, the best controller would be the one that either gives you all the features YOU personally NEED ergonomically, or the controller that mimics club setups
I have been waiting for this video since I have been using my friend's old controller and looking to finally get one for myself. I really like the GRV6; I really like the layout and the groove circuit features seem like it would be fun to play around with.
I loved your review of the DDJ-GRV6 as it is on my purchase list for this Black Friday. I am a new DJ and I appreciate the comparisons of all the other controllers. All your videos provide a wealth of knowledge!
Great breakdown of DJ gear options! My favorite tip is leveraging DJ record pools for extended tracks, it’s a game-changer for smooth transitions. The Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 is definitely my top pick for beginners. 🔥 What's everyone else's favorite gear?
My favorite beginner controller is the DDJ-FLX4 which I've owned for 2 weeks (yes, I am a 2 weeks old newbie DJ lol). Combined with an iPad running Djay Pro, can't be easier to get started.
I'm still in love with my Pioneer 1000 Srt. If you are on the Serato team this seems to me to be the most balanced controller and has everything a DJ and professional needs to do a great job. Its appearance is impressive and unique (Pioneer Pro setup), in addition to its portability. Excellent video as always master!
Honestly the small section at 15:00 got me wanting a video based only around used/older gen hardware. Most ppl dont always want/need all the bells and whistles that come with the latest hardware at the latest prices. Just b/c theres new stuff released, doesnt mean the old stuff suddenly stops working. I also think the used hardware has the potential to shuffle recommendations around. Ex: the djay control mix is new at $100, but you could find something like a used ddj-200 at around that same price range, which may be a more compelling option for people trying to get started
@@djcarlo Oops my fault. May have been looking at the Starlight which is $100. But i think the point is still valid even with the $10 difference (which can mean a lot of ppl on a budget). Actually looks like the Mix goes used on ebay for ~$75 which is pretty nice
From experience, it always holds true! Time and technology will always march on. Still, the new features and whatnot still make each new controller exciting!
Love understanding the capabilities of the non-AlphaTheta/Pioneer units, but it's hard to break away from the club standard when it seems like they have established themselves universally as the go-to controller/CDJ/etc.
Indeed. That's why i still recommend the AZ and such for those who want to keep the layout familiar. Their design language is pretty universal across the board, so transitioning from controllers to club grade equipment is much much smoother
hello! dj carlo, I'm canvassing right now as to what dj controller that I'm going to buy with of course limited budget, I'm stuck between these two Hercules Inpulse 500 or DDJ FLX4. May I ask your advice for this? on which to buy?
This video is 🔥! I've been using the Pioneer FLX4, and it's elevated my DJ game with its seamless controls and versatile features. One crucial lesson I’ve learned: never underestimate the power of smooth transitions-it's the key to keeping the crowd engaged! Thanks for the tips, always looking to level up my skills! 🙌🎧 #LevelUp"
So-so. In my opinion. Depends, what you're looking for? Maybe 4 channel contoller seems too much in home, but no (more is better, then you're learning of your mistakes too). Btw, love your channel. Finally DJ, who explaining for new generation every step (and even tricks, how to do it)
I think the DDJ-FLX10 is the best gear from this video! Actually so much value for the price thats why it is for me the best even though i haven’t played on it.
Being that I am planning to get back into DJing and own nothing at the moment, I'd love to win the DDJ-FLX10. I dig your reviews as they are very thorough!!!!
I am really liking the Kontrol X1 MK3. It looks like it has the functions and versatility I can use. I have been curious how folks add performance pads to the standard club set ups. This looks like a good way to start exploring that option, for me.
@djcarlo I used old school equipment 2 turntables and a old school Numark mixer. Nothing special. I had 2000 records I collected since I was 16. Now I'm 53 so not sure which controller will suit my needs.
Awesome video! My tip would be to start off with the DJ 400 or FLX 4 as it's, in my opinion, the best beginner controllers. I currently have the 400, and it's awesome! But I would love an FLX-10 as an upgrade! Also, is there a limit to the number of comments a person can make to try and win?
love all your content! i currently run a ddj flx6 but am looking to upgrade to a flx10 or xdj unit in the future! your insights really help me form a better idea of what i want to invest in for the future. thanks carlo !!
Absolutely! There was a lot of legalities behind the name change (I think I covered that in my Omnis Duo video), but indeed, they're getting much more creative with the equipment!
@@djcarlo It's a complex thing, but I'm always laughing a little bit inside when I hear people unhappy about the change 😂 Deep inside we know its the same company and the same products 🔥
Personally, my favorite DJ controllers are the Hercules Inpulse 500 (even though it’s not featured in the video, I’m attached to it because I started playing with its 'little sister,' the Inpulse 200) and the Pioneer FLX-4. I think they’re the perfect balance for anyone who doesn’t need extreme performance but wants to liven up parties with friends (and why not, some smaller gatherings) without giving up many of the features found in more expensive and professional controllers. I hope to win the giveaway so I can gift my old controller to my brother, as he’s also starting to get into this world. I believe the DDJ-FLX10 is the perfect controller to upgrade and start playing seriously. Love from Italy 🇮🇹
Thanks for the video! DDJ-FLX1000 is my dream controller and favorite DJ gear recommendation in this video. For now, I might get the AlphaTheta DDJ-GRV6. How does the GRV6 compare to the FLX-600 & 800?
I'd love to see a FLX-1000. That's lightyears ahead of the FLX-10 🤭 As for comparisons, the GRV6 seems far more balanced than the FLX6 in terms of output and features. It also does have an edge over the 800 as the 800 can only handle Rekordbox
@@djcarlo But Is GRV -6 has better sound quality output than DDJ - 800 ??? I Have DDJ RB for last 5 years..... But I need more performance features and great sound output for my pvt gigs or wedding venues!!!! And I also love the NI S4 MK3 with Traktor pro 4 version software 😮😮😮.....!!! Please help me 😢😢😢
Thanks for the breakdown! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
Hey carlo! I'm djing for 4 years now but i'm stuck in my baby numark party mix dj controller. Your videos helped me a lot and I turned this "toy" into a beast! I'm in uni now and i'm thinking about upgrading into a good serious controller. I'm considering 2 options and I really need your help rn. I really love the ddj flx4, it is small and it works with serato and rekordbox, it is in a very good price and i think it will be kinda the same (functionality based) with my old dj controller. The other option is the ddj rev 5. I mean cmon, for 1000 euro, it has everything and even more stuff to play around, and I will improve my skills even more! Buuut i will have to work for the summer season so i can work and get the money for it....What should I do? Go for the flx4 or wait for the ddj rev 5???
im gonna buy the xdj xz, is that a good controller For a DJ who has played on a FLX4 for 2 years and would now like to switch to a stand alone for larger parties and activities? please let me know
It's good for any DJ, especially mobile DJs. Since I only have a phone that is suitable for running DJ software, the FLX4 and FLX2 are very high on my list. I started on turntables in 1986 but stopped mainly because I couldn't get the jog wheels to scratch without a delay on the RMX 2 and also never used cue points extensively or the sampler. I never had anybody explain it well, until I found DJ Carlo and also DJ Angelo, both with foundations in hip-hop as that is the genre I started with and still my favorite to play.
I work in the music industry as a music composer, but just recently i wanted to try DJing (I'm 50 years old) So i bought a controller second hand quite cheap (pioneer DDJ 400). Even though its a great controller, I'm already feeling that I've kinda maxed out what I can do with it, maybe it was a bit TOO basic as i have a good understanding of DJ'ing, I'm missing out on the additional features of the FLX 4, But this is a really cool video and food for thought for me. I'd love to win the FLX10 though, that looks amazing!
Thank you, this breakdown is a needed update in the new world of controllers haha. I’m looking for 4 channels but am torn if I should spend more for a standalone or keep using the laptop
To be honest, all your tips are valuable. So to zero in on one tip is hard because I benefits from each and everyone. But I'll like to win that flex 10 doe . Keep your good work.🎉
Some of these things are too heavy to do mobile gigs with, I'd go with an FLX10 overall but I love the T7 as a scratch/hip-hop DJ and it's still lighter than the other motorized controllers on the market.
@djcarlo But Is GRV -6 has better sound quality output than DDJ - 800 ??? I Have DDJ RB for last 5 years..... But I need more performance features and great sound output for my pvt gigs or wedding venues!!!! And I also love the NI S4 MK3 with Traktor pro 4 version software 😮😮😮.....!!! Please help me 😢😢😢
use the Gemini MDJ-900, which is a great and affordable option. It works really well with Virtual DJ, and I pair it with a Behringer DJX 750 mixer. I’m really satisfied with it because, by simply remapping one or two cue points, I can easily access the stems.

hello! dj carlo, I'm canvassing right now as to what dj controller that I'm going to buy with of course limited budget, I'm stuck between these two Hercules Inpulse 500 or DDJ FLX4. May I ask your advice for this? on which to buy?
Personally, I'd recommend the FLX4. It's got a more standard layout :)
@@djcarlo thanks much! DjCarlo 🫡
im a pinoneer user through and through and i really love the DDJ-GRV-6 because of its new unique features, and its user friendly apprearance.
It's a pretty neat controller! Stands out from the rest really, especially given that only one other controller really has the drum feature
My favorite is the SRT-1000!
Oh absolutely! One of my all time top rated controllers! Are you gonna go for the golden one?
Yo Carlos, thx for the recommendations. My favorite is the FLX10
It's definitely one of the best out there for me!
Built in compatability with Philips hue is crazy 🤩🤩
Right?! I love that manufacturers are integrating this with more and more of their gear 🤩
Absolutely! Smooth transitions are everything. In fact, when not doing UA-cam mixes, I really focus on smooth, nearly undetectable mixes
So-so. In my opinion. Depends, what you're looking for? Maybe 4 channel contoller seems too much in home, but no (more is better, then you're learning of your mistakes too). Btw, love your channel. Finally DJ, who explaining for new generation every step (and even tricks, how to do it)
Indeed! That's why i put a full spectrum of controllers here, so there's something for nearly everyone!
I think the DDJ-FLX10 is the best gear from this video! Actually so much value for the price thats why it is for me the best even though i haven’t played on it.
Ohhhh, you'll love using it, I guarantee! What do you have now?
@ I now have the DDJ-FLX4 and i would love to upgrade to an DDJ-FLX 10, it would be a dream coming true to continue the journey
what's your opinion on the xdj-rx3? I am between the flx-10 and this one and do not know which way to go.
It's still an amazing all in one device! I believe i talked about it more in last year's version of this video. Check it out! 🥳
The DDJ-FLX10 is the best controller i can imagine. SO this is my favourite one.
It's indeed one of the most feature packed without being a standalone!
Being that I am planning to get back into DJing and own nothing at the moment, I'd love to win the DDJ-FLX10. I dig your reviews as they are very thorough!!!!
Thanks buddy! Appreciate the kind words about the reviews, and good luck on the contest!
I love you and I have been watching you for the past 3 years
I really appreciate the support Will!
Love FLX10 for its DMX controls. Such a unique feature
Right?! I think it's the only non-standalone to have that feature
Damn, really loved the Hercules DJControl Inpulse T7. One of the best for it's price imo.
It is! When i first tried it, I was honestly blow away
I am really liking the Kontrol X1 MK3. It looks like it has the functions and versatility I can use.
I have been curious how folks add performance pads to the standard club set ups. This looks like a good way to start exploring that option, for me.
It is! It really comes in handy when you need those pads. I used one of it's predecessors in my Redbull Threestyle contest!
Thanks for an amazing video again. I haven't used a controller yet. I'm narrowing down it down that suits myself.
Ohhh, interesting! What kinds of DJ Gear have you used?
@djcarlo I used old school equipment 2 turntables and a old school Numark mixer. Nothing special. I had 2000 records I collected since I was 16. Now I'm 53 so not sure which controller will suit my needs.
Awesome video! My tip would be to start off with the DJ 400 or FLX 4 as it's, in my opinion, the best beginner controllers. I currently have the 400, and it's awesome! But I would love an FLX-10 as an upgrade! Also, is there a limit to the number of comments a person can make to try and win?
No limit! Haha, but still, good luck on the contest Jaidon!
love all your content! i currently run a ddj flx6 but am looking to upgrade to a flx10 or xdj unit in the future! your insights really help me form a better idea of what i want to invest in for the future. thanks carlo !!
Youre very welcome! Great upgrade choices too btw!
The ominous duo seems like the perfect controller for a mountain sunset mix!
Indeed! The fact that it's battery powered means you can absolutely use it on a mountain at sunset!
I definitely find the FLX 4 most user and beginner friendly.
It really is! I really stand by that controller
nice recommendations! My favorite is ddj-flx10
It's one of my favorites as well! That's why you see it so frequently in my mixes haha
This video helped me so much to get a better overview of every type of gear! Thanks so much!!
Youre very welcome! Which one was your favorite?
This is a GREAT video brother! Lots of good info. Hope all is well.
Thanks Kareem! Which controller was your favorite?
@@djcarloMan some of these almost had me coming back to do reviews again! 😂. I like the Rev 7 and the new Rane performer the best.
My favorite Controller has to be the XDJ RX3 because its the best stand-alone controller. For Playing with Laptop i would prefer the FLX10
The RX3 is still a very solid alternative to the AZ!
Since i am a beginner, these kinds of videos help me out. the FLX4 will probably be the next gear i'll get!
Excellent choice! Honestly, it's unmatched for me
My favourite from the video iss the XDJ-AZ. The Pioneer rebrand is a weird thing, but we sure got some VERY COOL gear out of it! Cheers, Carlo!
Absolutely! There was a lot of legalities behind the name change (I think I covered that in my Omnis Duo video), but indeed, they're getting much more creative with the equipment!
@@djcarlo It's a complex thing, but I'm always laughing a little bit inside when I hear people unhappy about the change 😂
Deep inside we know its the same company and the same products 🔥
Ohhh, that's a great pick! Definitely waiting for a mk 2 of that one. Good luck with the contest!
That's lightyears ahead of the FLX-10 🤭
As for comparisons, the GRV6 seems far more balanced than the FLX6 in terms of output and features.
Please help me 😢😢😢
Great video. I have narrowed it down to two for my next controller... The Rane Performer and Pioneer FLX10.
You can’t go wrong with either one!
FLX10 for the win, so versatile and light, but packed with features!
Absolutely! That's why i can't get enough of it! 🤩
My favorite tip was using a record pool, i never realized i could get so many downloads for a flat rate
Right?! It's crazy on how much of a downloading spree you can go on on a record pool!
for me the new Prime GO with the bluetooth…its a win…compact deck, can be carried easily when travels…
And it works with Serato DJ too!
Thanks for the breakdown! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
Thanks! Unfortunately, that's so off topic, I've got no real answer to that. I haven't really dabbled in crypto
Hi, my choice is DDJ-FLX10. I own a DDJ 1000 and i want to upgrade.
Great choice for an upgrade!
DDJ FLX10 would be the dream! Looks so sick compared to my FLX4 haha! Nice vid.
It's essentially a bigger FLX4, but with tons of additional features! And glad you liked the video!
For me also the Hercules 500 still the best
It's a great entry level controller, I'll have to admit!
Djcarlo!!! Love the mix you did on that gold 1000, i hope i win i got 4 gigs lined up for next year, and i need to upgrwde my numark.!!!
It's still such a wonderful controller! One of my favorites. And good luck!
I think that the Prime 4 + is now (since the stems are available) the best standalone controller
Indeed! That's why it's the flagship!
im gonna buy the xdj xz, is that a good controller For a DJ who has played on a FLX4 for 2 years and would now like to switch to a stand alone for larger parties and activities? please let me know
Yes it’s an insane upgrade! Go for it!
@@djcarlo is it still worth the money? and is it not outdated?
Been using an FLX-4 for a while - it really is the best for beginners good rec
It's good for any DJ, especially mobile DJs. Since I only have a phone that is suitable for running DJ software, the FLX4 and FLX2 are very high on my list. I started on turntables in 1986 but stopped mainly because I couldn't get the jog wheels to scratch without a delay on the RMX 2 and also never used cue points extensively or the sampler. I never had anybody explain it well, until I found DJ Carlo and also DJ Angelo, both with foundations in hip-hop as that is the genre I started with and still my favorite to play.
Absolutely! Pretty much has everything a DJ needs, in a small package!
Ohhhh, if you came from the music industry already, for sure you're gonna need more from your equipment! Good luck on the contest Zariis!
@@djcarlo Much appreciated thank you! :)
Thank you, this breakdown is a needed update in the new world of controllers haha. I’m looking for 4 channels but am torn if I should spend more for a standalone or keep using the laptop
FLX 10 is a solid choice or the Mixstream pro go!
Love my FLX10 as well!
Is It worth it to buy an XDJ-RX3 in 2024?
Absolutely! That's why I still mentioned it at the end, as an alternative to the AZ
Most defo for me Hercules DJ, super portable and affordable option
Crazy what technology can bring, right?
@djcarlo yep, and looks great too not gonna lie :D
I mean, the starlight in the beginning :D
I am just a beginner and FLX4 is an awesome controller.
It is! It's got everything you essentially need!
To be honest, all your tips are valuable. So to zero in on one tip is hard because I benefits from each and everyone. But I'll like to win that flex 10 doe . Keep your good work.🎉
Hahaha, I get you! It's hard to pick just one from a 30 minute long video. Good luck to you in the contest buddy!
What's the best DJ Gear of 2024?
REV 5 DEFO please make a video about rev 5. I expect this from you
@@djcarlo I think it’s a flx 10
Omnis Duo
For indian....
Please help me 😢😢😢
Excellent question. It doesn’t… I still prefer the ddj800 over the grv6.
When you upgrade, get something with xlr outputs!
use the Gemini MDJ-900, which is a great and affordable option. It works really well with Virtual DJ, and I pair it with a Behringer DJX 750 mixer. I’m really satisfied with it because, by simply remapping one or two cue points, I can easily access the stems.
Hey that works too! Kudos for being tech!
that XDJ-AZ looks so feature packed!
It is! It's got quite a lot under the hood
