Yeah, she was calling him arrogant while the most arrogant thing is precisely wanting to satisfy everyone, I think she realized that when she refused to answer
To be fair, he is mature enough to know she is a person and that she needs to stop pleasing him and others and tell her it's about that SHE wants. Screw what he and others want.
Exactly because there was this girl I was dating her name was serenity and we were dating for a few days and she broke up with me because she said her parents didn’t approve I said it doesn’t matter what your parents want or approve of it’s what does your heart say that matters your a grown woman not a kid think for yourself I also said I get that she’s your mother and you love her but take control because if she really loves you she would let you decide who you wanna be with and she doesn’t care as long as you’re happy I love this scene because it very very much applies 👏👏👏👏👏👏
I absolutely love when he says, "I lost you once, I think I could do it again. If it thought it's what you really wanted." Keyword, THINK. It's so real what he's saying to her. He's was willing to let her go, the love of his life, and be with the other guy if it's what SHE wanted. He knew it would be hard but was being a true gentleman and put his own feelings for her aside and left the choice to her. It's so unlike other romances in other movies.
I love the way he tells her she's a pain in the ass and isn't afraid of hurting her feelings. I love how he slams that door to say 'Your not going anywhere.' And I love how he kind of holds his hand over his heart... So sweet and vulnerable as he' standing there fighting for his woman.
Even if they're lactose intolerant, the answer is still pizza! But the whiplash still comes later when they blame you they got fat all of a sudden and you as a guy stayed thin lol
Especially when Rachel says "now I hate you." While the rest of the fight sounded on point, her delivery of this line was *off*. But I eventually realized that her character couldn't convincingly say that she hates him. Ryan plays right along by mocking her.
ricky bobby It actually seems like you pulled it from a vine, and considering the timing of your reply it makes it pretty likely. Or a very untimely coincidence.
This movie changed my life in its last seconds of making a mistske. It's strange but it did. When he asked her to picture herself in future... I did that also... That was the moment I realized I was with a wrong man. Today... Happily married to the one who couldn't let go of us. I'm grateful and happy it turned out this way and forever thankful he waited. My life will always be connected to this movie in many ways. Love to all....
No what she really struggles with more than anything is that innate need that she feels like she needs to please her parents. If she chooses Noah she knows her parents will be disappointed whereas if she chooses Lon he's everything they've always wanted for her. That's why he says stop thinking about what everyone else wants. What do you want? Who do you want to be with? The choice is hers and that's what Noah is trying to instill in her. I'm glad she chose him in the end.
every choice you take in life, its a risk, whether its love or anything else. Would you stuck on "what do you want" forever? yeah good luck. And i didnt say its easy to make a choice, but the question is simple, you have to make decision anyway. Noah really wants to be with her, yet still gave her the choice. And what he say is true, stop thinking about what people expect and want from you, instead really think of who and what make you happy? that really is just the only question to lead your life to a better direction imo.
When he leans back and then puts his other hand over his heart, and has to rip himself away from the car...my heart crumbles. Ryan Gosling is definitely one of the finest actors of our time. This scene proves it.
The hand is a good touch...he gestures with his left hand as he is asking her what she wants, while his other hand is on his heart. She doesn't answer and his hand is left hanging, and then he quickly folds his arm to his heart feeling exposed and vaunrauble...and as you put it he finally rips himself away from the car in defeat. I don't know if that's meticulously choreographed, or its the actors interpretation, but it's very well done, probably the most genuine moment in the entire movie or even movies in general.
Oh my God this scene breaks my heart every time. How incredibly hard it was for Noah to have to step back & let her walk away again. It’s really heartbreaking. I feel his pain.
It's quite simple darling, not for your female brain, but yes it is beyond simple. There are things you want and things you think you want, and you get confused in those 2 terms that you just say its not that simple.
Spashaei Oh my god, I've been obsessed with MBTI lately and this video. I'm an ENFP. I'm gonna have to disagree with you though. "What do you want?" It's not that simple. Because sometimes people don't know what they want.
What if the Person you love, doesn't get accepted by your Parents? I can imagine my future with him but Is this love really worth fighting for even if it means that you have to turn against your Family?
My heart turns into genuine liquid seeing her reaction at 1:02. Beyond incredible acting. Their argument up to this point provides the perfect contrast for Noah's raw expression of love to really hit. Allie's expression captures it perfectly.
The fact that I still remember the lines even after so many years means I was really an avid fan. The fact that I am still waiting for my first love means that this movie and the book influenced me more than I could imagine. This story made me a hopeless romantic. It makes me believe that if you really are meant to be then you'll be together in the end.
The reason why this kind of love "never" happens for people is because they settle. You want something worthwhile, go looking for it, WORK for it. Didn't you hear what he said? "Yeah it's going to be hard and we'll have to work at it every day."...most people are too lazy to work for it.
There is a difference between working to keep a relationship healthy, and working to keep a toxic relationship plodding along. This was the latter. It works on page or screen, but, not in real life.
I wouldn't say lazy. "Loving" and fighting like that may be nice for some people, teenagers mostly. But a marriage? getting old together? "for better or worse" in a relationship that doesn't seem to know smooth sailing even in times when thing are alright? Having to FIGHT for a love to work for the rest of my life? I would go NUTS. I LIKE this movie, I really do but just like Katherin D. said: It is a MOVIE, in reality relationships like that tend to be toxic, no one wins.
Not at all..for me it's complete opposite. People are so busy trying to find the this kinda love. They won't settle and miss what's in front of them. Perfect love doesn't exist..you create by fighting for it
It's not going to be easy. Its gonna be really hard. We're gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that. Because I want you, I want all of you, forever, you and me everyday... :')
@George Ybarra I guess that is the difference between a movie and real live. I like the movie but in reality relationships like that are usually not romantic at all but exhausting and toxic.
Uugh, I watched this last night and this is the truest kind of love. It can hurt so much. Brilliant storytelling by the writer and the actors. I guess love can come full circle in the end. Soul mates
One of the best scenes from this movie. As simple as it looks, these decisions can be tough...we all want something, even all but we have to choose one.
I love Noah and Allie's relationship because I believe that the relationship got it's main message across: When you're in a relationship with someone, you need to work for it; be committed to it. All the time. Of course, it should never be toxic..but you also can't expect 24/7 smooth sailing. That's like expecting perfection: always saying the right things, always doing the right things, always agreeing etc. When you're in a real, true love relationship, sometimes people are gonna hurt you..even with the truth, or they'll let you down, make mistakes, disagree with you, etc. But as you should work for your relationship, that means you must also be willing to learn in your relationship. I've always believed that a real, loving relationship needs to be at a balance between what's easy and what's considered toxic. If you're never learning how to make things right between you two and you both don't work on making things better with both yourself individually and with the relationship, that's when I think it becomes toxic, mentally and emotionally. And that's when things get too repetitive and draining. A marriage isn't just for the better. It's for the better *and* for the worst. Relationships should never be perfect. Nor should they be toxic. Relationships just need to be real. With two people to truly love each other and are fully committed to one another. So Noah and Allie's love story maybe wasn't the absolute best portrayal of a real relationship, but I think they were portrayed well enough to get the message across. ❤
I think you describe it perfectly, a relationship needs a lot of work and effort which is going to be hard like the main character said and a lot of people consider it toxic, I think it's the reality that a relationship is complex and needs a lot of time and effort but it can be overcome if both of the people love each other and is willing to give 100% of their effort, commitment, and dedication(unconditional love).
1:40 When you ask your girl what she wants to eat. She then says "I don't want anything" Then proceeds to eat your food when it arrives. Prayers out to men everywhere, the struggle is real.
This fighting scene is Rachel's audition scene. She got the script a night before the audition. "What do you want?" was Ryan's adlib. Somehow the fight looks so real because Ryan hated her so much during the early production. Haha. Later he realized he loved her.
I watch this scene over and over and it is scary how this scene is identical to the situation my ex and myself are in. She comes from a life of privilege and I come from a blue collar family. She is Jewish and has been raised to value Money, Education and Status above all. Love ranks 4th or 5th on her list as that's what's been taught her entire life. She still calls all the time, still texts and still tells me how much she loves me. Cries, emails ... I should have been gone over a year ago as her parents view me as a disease ... She is so confused just like Allie in this scene ... She loves me as much as I love her and I constantly ask her the same question he asks her in this scene ... "Forget about your parents, what do you want?" .... She always comes back no matter how controlling her parents are and no matter what she has been taught ... I see it in her eyes, I hear it in her voice and I feel it in my heart and hers ... I love her so much and all I want is to lay next to her every night and love her more each day. I see a lot of her in this character and I see a lot of me in his character ... I love this movie because the similarities are scary and the outcome is magical ... Love does concur all and I will never give up on her (in a legal / non creepy / romantic way) lol ... I love you so much B ... More than words will ever explain
My ex came back professing his love 25yrs after I've currently been married 22yrs to another man I feel like a puppet on a string we does he push my buttons so bad after all this time
i love how he said he’s not afraid to hurt her feelings. the fact that he was willing to let her go if that what she wanted truly shows how important she is to him and how much he loved her.
Is it weird that this is the kind of love that I want? My heart melts every time I see this scene.. its so extremely powerful. wow... i just love this movie
I love these 2 together, at he knew what he wanted, he did the house over for her, just like she ask him to, and didnt care if she was engaged, he never stopped loving her, or she him
I believe that love isn’t usually simplistic, rather mostly complicated in ways you don’t really see till you’re in the heat of the moment. I see this with those around me, my family and friends. Love is a struggle as it is a peaceful thing but you go through it with someone right along side you for better or worse.
Oh you are not alone. This is one of the most popular romantic movies of all time and this particular scene is referenced as one of the reasons people love this movie. But also this movie is commonly referenced in the modern day as an example of normalizing toxic and pre-abusive relationships. Our brains are unfortunately hardwired to be attracted to abusive behaviors. It is a hard problem to deal with although i think progress is being made.
Nope lol... It's because everyone wants someone that loves them this much and fights for them and truly cares and would do anything to keep them by their side. A real, true, deep love like this is very hard to find! 😥
Ah yes, the age old battle with women: Meal time: "What do you want to eat?" 'I don't know' "I want to eat Chinese" 'I don't' "Well what do you want?" 'I don't know, it's not that simple' Argument: "What do you want? What are you mad about?" 'I don't know' or *silence* "What am I doing that is making you mad?" 'You should already know. I don't know, it's not that simple' Generally speaking, men are direct and don't beat around the bush. We want straight up, honest, no-bs answers that are clear and logical. Most females are indirect and avoid dealing with things right away and from the front, which is why you'll hear about something you did three months ago when you have an argument even though she never brought it up when it actually happened.
My ex and I went into marriage counseling and she started out the first session with something I had done 14 years earlier before we were even married. She never mentioned it at the time - just kept it in her craw all those years.
“I’m not afraid to hurt your feelings... It’s not gonna be easy; it’s gonna be really hard and we’re gonna have to work at this every day but I wanna do that cuz I want you. I want all of you, forever, you & me, everyday.”
This clip reminds me so much of me and my boyfriend. We get on each others nerves half the time and have petty arguments about stuff that doesn't matter, but we are still together. Love isn't easy like most movies make it out to be but it is rewarding when it is found. Me and my boyfriend are high school sweethearts and have been together for six years! Love you Kyle!
That's exactly what i thought only a year ago. Love in movies seems so passionate and so real and almost unbelievable. But i must tell you, I have been so fortunate as to experience love even better than in the movies. Never in my life would i have thought that i could be capable of loving somone so strongly. Every movie, every song, everything.. reminds me of him. I do everything for him. I live for him. Love in its purest form is hard to find but its definitely out there. I love you Nicholas
It hurts a lot to rewatch this again with me being in a relationship which is now our 4th year. This scene just gets me every time cuz that is how we do so when get angry at each other. It is so damn accurate by the fact that we both yell, we both cry and we both get hurt. But we both learn to appreciate and take advice from one another to become better along with our lives. And that is what it means to be in a long term relationship with the same person u will love and hate the most. It takes love and dedication to make it work.
This film has a special place for me. Such beautiful dipicture of when you know you can have it all but your just too afraid to actually be happy and follow your heart instead, pleasing everyone else and neglecting your intuition...❤
The frustration and nightmare of every man in the planet. Women's typical answer to the simplest question? "it's not that simple" "there are some many layers", etc.
Because we need to please everyone. It's taught from a young age. Boys are pretty much careless, they're not raised that way. Think of this next time u comment such a thing
This was my favorite scene in the movie. He put her in her place without disrespecting her. And it was real and genuine.

“Have you been paying attention to anything that has been happening here?” Obviously not 😂. Not once does SHE mention security. Noah does.
Such a powerful scene. We tend to make life complicated, but it all comes down to the simplest of questions: What do you want?
This is true. It's not an easy road sometimes but in the end it should be about what you want. What we want.

It's not the "want" that we struggle with knowing; it's the "not knowing" the future outcome of choosing what we want that holds us back sometimes.

So Noah and Allie's love story maybe wasn't the absolute best portrayal of a real relationship, but I think they were portrayed well enough to get the message across. ❤
How long have you been in a relationship?
I think you describe it perfectly, a relationship needs a lot of work and effort which is going to be hard like the main character said and a lot of people consider it toxic, I think it's the reality that a relationship is complex and needs a lot of time and effort but it can be overcome if both of the people love each other and is willing to give 100% of their effort, commitment, and dedication(unconditional love).
I politely disagree...It you have to work like that, that's a toxic relationship.
They Fight cause they love each other very much, that's when you know it's real
One of my favourite scenes in the entire world. Did you know they improv'd this scene? The dialogue and everything.
Is that true?! I want to know more about it! Where did you read that?
“What do you want?” was improvised. The scene was scripted.
Source: Trust me bro
What’s the best is he improvised that line “what do you want”
Ryan Gosling in this film is perfection. I adore Allie and Noah so much.
1:40
When you ask your girl what she wants to eat.
She then says "I don't want anything"
Then proceeds to eat your food when it arrives. Prayers out to men everywhere, the struggle is real.
1:01 - Phenomenal acting by Rachel.
“YOU’RE BORED! You’re bored and you know it and you wouldn’t be here if there wasn’t something missing!”
This fighting scene is Rachel's audition scene. She got the script a night before the audition. "What do you want?" was Ryan's adlib. Somehow the fight looks so real because Ryan hated her so much during the early production. Haha. Later he realized he loved her.
when my parents ask where I want to eat
lolol!!!
I hope u are together now and are happy
What happened man..
My ex came back professing his love 25yrs after I've currently been married 22yrs to another man I feel like a puppet on a string we does he push my buttons so bad after all this time
Where are you now ?
if somebody gives me this speech, then i don´t even want a diamond ring,i want HIM!!!
Word!!
i love how he said he’s not afraid to hurt her feelings. the fact that he was willing to let her go if that what she wanted truly shows how important she is to him and how much he loved her.
Noah’s hand was on his chest when he says “what do you want”. Massively symbolic. He was putting his heart on the line.
Can't believe that they actually hate each other off screen.
really?
They dated for a few years after this so they couldn't have hated each other all that much
They hated eachother whilst fliming, they do not hate eachother now.
I think it was a few months they dated for, not long after finishing the shoot
but yes, they used to hate one another
Adel John WHAT
Is it weird that this is the kind of love that I want? My heart melts every time I see this scene.. its so extremely powerful. wow... i just love this movie
What do you want?
Eh... Fries?
What do you want?!
Fries!
WHAT DO YOU WANT!?
FRIES, DANG!
Heard it was improvised.

I love these 2 together, at he knew what he wanted, he did the house over for her, just like she ask him to, and didnt care if she was engaged, he never stopped loving her, or she him
"What do you want?"
Scientists are have spent billions seeking for the answer.

@@roaring-turtleI are can't
LOL I think it's hilarious when she calls him a slug-bastard!
she said smug lol not slug.
I believe that love isn’t usually simplistic, rather mostly complicated in ways you don’t really see till you’re in the heat of the moment. I see this with those around me, my family and friends. Love is a struggle as it is a peaceful thing but you go through it with someone right along side you for better or worse.
He loves her.. he don’t care if they always fight.
"What do you want?".
If someone honestly answered that question to themselves, their whole life is solved..
And if someone could open the temple door
"I lost you once, i think i could do it again" u need the guts to say that
Hate it when life complicates the obvious !!!!
I love it when he says "if you leave here, I hate you!" its so cute cause you know he doesn't mean it. or maybe he does :/ Either way its passionate.
He loves her so much , that he gives her the option to choose . Love this movie ❤
He wrote her 365 letters n she waited 4 him 7 years that’s what called true love 🤎
She said everything when she cried a bit after that " I wanna all of you"
Am I the only person who literally fantasizes about fights like this?
omfg
Julia you re not alone. The passion...it’s raw & beautiful.
Fights with the context connecting to the frustration is incredible
All she had to do to end the argument is say the word you. He would have picked her up and carried her back in that house. The house he built for her.
Nope lol... It's because everyone wants someone that loves them this much and fights for them and truly cares and would do anything to keep them by their side. A real, true, deep love like this is very hard to find! 😥
It's all fun and games on vine but when you watch the clip or the movie your like o_o 😁 this is real stuff bro.
Came here from Dragonfoxgirl's Haida and Retsuko animatic.
Yeah so did I
Yes!
Mmhm.
"Would you just stay with me?" in a low key baby voice, the kind u do when u make puppy eyes while saying "Please?" 😌
This scene gave me a lot of pain and it still does. Always making me cry. Bringing back all the memories I had with my totga.
lmao when you ask yo girl what she wants to eat
Shakblak Productions 🤣🤣
1:38 me with the dunkin donuts employees
lmao yes!!!!
yeah
Ah yes, the age old battle with women:
Meal time:
"What do you want to eat?"
'I don't know'
"I want to eat Chinese"
'I don't'
"Well what do you want?"
'I don't know, it's not that simple'
Argument:
"What do you want? What are you mad about?"
'I don't know' or *silence*
"What am I doing that is making you mad?"
'You should already know. I don't know, it's not that simple'
Generally speaking, men are direct and don't beat around the bush. We want straight up, honest, no-bs answers that are clear and logical. Most females are indirect and avoid dealing with things right away and from the front, which is why you'll hear about something you did three months ago when you have an argument even though she never brought it up when it actually happened.
Eat Chinese, eh? "And theeeeeeeeeeen?"
Neal Rabulan "no and then!!"
pakistanxoxxmom
My ex and I went into marriage counseling and she started out the first session with something I had done 14 years earlier before we were even married. She never mentioned it at the time - just kept it in her craw all those years.
I am direct and men I met were not. That was a problem.
I lost you once I think I can do it again ! Damnit freaking lines !
“I lost you once I think I can do it again if you thought that’s what you wanted” deep down he knows he can’t live without her
“I’m not afraid to hurt your feelings...
I'm curious, are you guys still together?
im curios too
Yo where you at
I literally go through this kind of argument with my girlfriend almost everyday but goddam do I love her. I totally get this scene.
Just one of the many scenes that shows the love and passion between them..shown in a different way but it is very much there.
Acting on point .the way the voice quivers...the expression... everything
Love ,sometimes, is worth some work and pain to get to a stronger hold and understanding.
Agree
She said " I have to go" not " I want to go'. It's a huge difference..
Fighting for the one you love is a beautiful lost art. Nowadays, society calls this picture manipulation or narcissism… very sad.
i also love this one, "that's what we do" We always FIGHT!..love those lines...
Some people just don't know what they want.
Love his acting💙
I believe these movie clips from the note book is how you feel when you find true love...💕💞💓💗💖💘💝 💯🌈
This film has a special place for me. Such beautiful dipicture of when you know you can have it all but your just too afraid to actually be happy and follow your heart instead, pleasing everyone else and neglecting your intuition...❤
I like how she was holding tight to the letters no matter what.
I cry at this part EVERY TIME
"god damn it what do you want?" lmfao
Yo! that was the realest shit. I've never seen this. Ima have to check this out
+Paris Draggs You're cute
Thats what a guy wants you so much that he really wanted you in his life no matter what
Love shows our innocence and our vulnerabilities...
Thats why love hurts, fight for it and cherish it true love comes but just once
