First of all, I can't believe this is the first Free shoe that I have reviewed on this channel! After years of marketing them, I finally got a chance to enjoy a Nike Free RN Flyknit and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
Firstly, this shoe looks awesome. It's a super comfortable casual wear, with your choice in a myriad of colors (or even customizations). It's a solid shoe for everyday life and pretty cool to be able to transition right into running life.
The shoe is a responsive, reduced neutral shoe that many will enjoy for shorter workouts focusing on foot form and strength building. While I don't see myself running a marathon (or even a half) in these, they certainly are a decent responsive ride. And damn, that flyknit is fly........knit. I really like it!
Size down in these so you make sure that the stretchy flyknit will fit your foot at all times - even if the upper stretches out over time. Otherwise, a real surprise for me. I like it!

After realising I became addicted to running I sprained my left ankle. After immobilisation, multiple anxiety attacks, rehab, and a green light from the Doc, I am finally able to keep on running and then you upload a review :) the road is calling!
Welcome back!!!
You sound like a druggie haha.
Hahahaha yes, I do. Again...that's kinda what it feels like somehow :P
ASICS Men's GEL Venture 5 Running Shoe From $40.98 at amzon>>www.amazon.com/ASICS-Venture-Running-Carbon-Orange/dp/B00YDI7XCS/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1472024647&sr=1-1&nodeID=7141123011&keywords=running+shoes
fwiw i love that you place importance on looks. i bought the flyknit free 4.0s purely as a casual/looks shoe but they're the reason i started running, for the first time since a gym teacher forced me to. i just always wanted to go faster in them! i've got better stability/distance shoes since then (and shorts, apps, etc.) but will forever be grateful for the work nike did with these
Looks are important to me! (And not necessarily to some) but I'm less likely to wear a crappy looking shoe regardless of how it fits :)
Being a minimalist runner I love the free range. I currently run in a free 4.0 and 5.0's (I prefer the 4.0's). I probably get about 1,500k's (900 miles) out is a 5.0 and only 1.000 k's (600 miles) out of the 4.0's. Took me a while to strengthen my foot to run longer distances in them but now a marathon is cake.
Yup, I can see someone who's used to the reduced feel and trained thoroughly in these can make them last
I have run 3 ultra marathons in current Nike Free Flyknit...just love them and I find them lasting long enough. Furthest being 90km (56miles). I find them super comfortable. You do need to get used to them, can`t just jump out and do a long run on your first go. This is my type of shoe, but yes, maybe not for everyone.
Do more Nike reviews. Love it. Keep it up.
I have been watching the GR for years and often buying the shoes that seem like they will fit my running form. I am a mid-foot to forefoot striker with low arches. For me, these Nike Flyknit RN are the road answer to the Kiger 2 (or is it 3 ? not sure) which are my beloved trail runners. I also use these wonderful things called Correct Toes. These are the bomb for a stable forefoot ride. The Flyknit RN and the Correct Toes really makes my forefoot go super wide providing stability without reducing flexibility and that has eliminated all knee pain for me. I have not had any issues with my mid-foot moving in this shoe but I tend to use these on streets, sidewalks and paved paths which are mostly straight. I do tie my laces snug though so I can see that some may not like this extra freedom. I hope that you can try to review the Correct Toes sometime. Could be fun. Keep up the great work GR!!
My favorite running channel
I found that the support/instability issue is less of a factor when you go a half size down in flyknit models. I had this same issue in my flyknit 4.0 and bought another pair in a 9.5 rather than a 10 and it helped a lot. This may be different for this model because of how much higher off the ground these are, but just making a suggestion
Oh and maybe you should try the other free models that Nike is offering now; (the free rn distance and free rn motion)
Darious Comfort love the RN motion! Super comfy
blackstar0o3 I've never tried them personally but I do want a pair to test out
cool to see a review again - love it! These are my "bring on a trip, maybe get some miles in" - shoes :) Fits in any luggage, can also be worn out and about. Stability on long runs is pretty poor though.
Love the reviews @TheGingerRunner. Should do a review of the Nike Free RN Distance.
Done a couple of marathons in the old Free 3, 4 and 5 and just love the shoes. Think your review pretty much goes in line with what advantages and disadvantages I would give the free series.
I know you liked the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 32, so try the 33s they are great and with the added zoom air in the forefoot they are now supper comfortable on long runs
I've bought this shoes in order to make my transition to minimalist shoes. It's pretty decent for distance like 5 or 10k.
I use these for walks and easy paced runs under 5 miles... they are a go-to pair as I’m reaching 700 miles with them. They show their wear, but still s favorite in my arsenal.
I have these and they are really comfortable
I think the RN Free Motion fixes some of the stability issues this one has. I have about 80 miles covered with my RN motion and love them so far. Bought them for casual short runs but was very surprised that they became my go to shoe for 15+ mile road runs as well. Only issue is you pick up tons of stones on the way. So really for road use only.
Love the review, however completely disagree with the durability aspect. I’ve worn a pair of these pretty daily for the last five years and they’re still as comfortable as day 1, they go in the washing machine almost every week . The stitching is just starting to go on the right shoe on the seam but they’ve covered a few thousand miles
Guess what, I found one right now for 30 bucks :D I never used the Nike Free nor any Nike shoes ever previously, except all the Kiger Models and now the Zegama. I then found a good deal on the Free RN 5.0 that I absolutely freckin' love. So as I kept on searching I popped on a good deal for a Free Flyknit 2018 in my size and ordered it. I think I am gonna love that shoe too !
I rocked those for 3 years on daily basis. Very comfortable. You cant wear Js anymore after that so i kept most of my Js on ice
love me some flyknits! mmhmmm
Me too. Apparently we are just trying to fit in.
I have a pair of Nike Fly knit 4.0's that have 800km on them and the fly knit upper looks as good as new. Seriously. I just wash them regularly. So don't assume they'll wear out quickly! I've run 5 half marathons, and two 30km races in the 4.0's (I have three pairs, and the oldest pair has the 800kms).
Best shoe 🔥 I ever had
i always found slippage with the flyknits as well. they're the most comfortable things ever but my feet always slide like crazy... eventually getting blisters i normally dont get
Free flyknit is one of my to go training shoes. Super comfortable in short distances (5-10k).
Same issues on the Lunartempo 2. Also not so cushioned as they promoted it (someone said they where similar to Clifton).
Flyknit is good if the sheoe isn't completely made of it. Pegasus is a good compromise between upper stability and stretchiness of flyknit.
I got a set of the Free RN distance bit less of a drop a little more cushion. Really nice, the flyknit is the same in those a bit "mobile" you really have to lock the laces down.
Great review! What would you recommend for general gym use and not so much running? Thanks
I've done 630 miles in these, 1/2 marathons and 10ks, probably time to get some new shoes...
Just discovered this channel. Freakin awesome. Also, love these and the lunarepics!
I am extremely jealous for those who can wear Nike. They're made for not so wide feet. Till then, I'll stick with my Brooks Glycerin 13s.
btw, first comment but I've been watching for a couple of months. Thanks for being awesome. Seriously.
I have rather wide feet, and I find my Nike Free 4.0's the most comfortable shoe I've ever used. My maximum mileage with them was around 30km (19mi), and they were comfortable the entire way and fit my foot beautifully :)
I have wide feet and I love my air zoom Pegasus 32. The Air Zoom Structure are pretty wide. I just received a pair of Kiger 3s and the forefoot is super wide, both upper and midsole. I used to train with Nike Flex TRs and those are extra wide as well. I guess you have to find the line of each company that fits your feet.
I'm with you. VERY few Nikes fit my feet, the Structure fitting the best.
EpicDannie09, i cant say im a " widefooter " but i know that Nike makes surprisingly alot of shoes for wide feet
Just purchased these 😍
+TheGingerRunner I was wondering if you have tried or planning to try the UA Charged Bandit 2
1:23 “flyknits my jam” 🤣🤣🤣
This was the first show I purchased last year when I started running they are good for very short runs of a mile or 2 but I would not recommend them. They do look nice with my blue NY Giants Jersey!
Everyone seems to love flyknit...wish nike would make a 4e shoe size!
these are the next shoes I will get... I just got the lunar epics... And they look like a lot more better.... But the lunar epics were more comfy for school.
Have you ever run or test any Running sandals? Xero's,bedrocks,Luna's? Would love to hear your thoughts
and if you don't feel like running on sandlas, can you make a review of xero prio? i have my eyes on them but i want to hear from an independent reviewer
can you please review the Nike free rn flyknit 2017 ????
Have you thought about doing a comparison video featuring multiple shoes? I'm in the market for a pair of waterproof trail shoes (live in Portlandia). Strolled into REI and there's too many options. 😬 Would love to see an actual comparison of each shoe featuring a puddle and/or creek crossing test. And the downsides to breathability with gore-tex, neoshell, etc. Don't think you'd have to wear each shoe for 100 miles to pull this off either.
I'm less interested in waterproof shoes (your feet will get wet no matter what if it's raining/river crossings/etc) but I get what you're saying. Always open to new vid ideas!
I tried this one for running. Horrible on road and track but good for treadmil lol!
These shoes suit casual use ONLY. I got this exact pair (colour and everything!) and loved the way they looked too. I'm a personal trainer and avid runner and found these unstable for anything other than walking around. Bad gym shoe, training shoe and running shoe. Love the style though but that wasn't enough to keep them.
Nah i ran a full marathon in these. 26.2
I'm still kind of debating wich color to get either the gray or the colorful I can't decide but I think the gray is pretty cool becuse I use them for everyday use And there very casual but at the same time I like the colorful one but still deciding 🤷🏻♂️
Having 1265km. Staying strong!!!!
Hey Ethan. Love the videos! How do we go about getting your Train Race Beer T-shirts over in the UK?
I've come to realise many "pro" brands like Nike are not of durable material. Should this be a reason to not buy the shoe or even not run with it?
And also, when coming to buy shoes, how do I know when the shoe is too big and when it is not suitable to run with?
Try out the free rn distance. I love the shoe personally.
They are good for slow zone 2, up to 20k. Very poor for anything fast, or wet, as it has upper has a huge amount of movement in the upper. I bought a pair half price, making them a good recovery run shoe.
Ben Deady I did a sub 20 min 5K in these things. They don't last long, but they are fast. Very responsive.
it kind of looks like a good gym shoe to me?
Hi there, are you able to tell me how to spot fakes of this shoe? I ordered a pair and everything seems to check out ok except when I pull the sole out of the shoe, there is a 6T printed lightly on the shoe on the heel area. My other ones that are legit do not have this. Please any help wood be appreciated. Thank you
I'm thinking about trying these out. Extreme flexibility and sock-like fit has always been my #1 priority, but I'm thinking about moving into something with a little more padding than some of the extremely minimalist shoes I've been using. This seems like a good fit, right? Any other shoes in that vein?
Nike also offers the free rn distance. They're both similar in many ways except the rn distance has more cushion under foot and offers two different upper variations (an engineered mesh and a flyknit) to cater to the needs of more than one type of runner. Hope you find this helpful
i love nike free RN.i have them.so comfy.
I bought my first pair of Flyknit. Why do they feel like I am walking on the insides of my feet when I have them on? Anyone else get this feeling? Never had this feel in any other shoes I've owned.
Hi. Was wondering if you could do a review on the Flyknit RN motion?
Can you do the Nike lunarglide 8? Just to get an idea of what all the hype is about
I know somebody that has been using these shoes for a year and a half he's really good at running he's 13 and can run a mile in 5 minutes
could you do a review on ultraboost uncaged and if youve tried them are they good for running?
The aren't distance running shoes, i'd say these are more indoor gym shoes. If you want distance running shoes from Nike then the Pegasus or Lunar are the shoes you want.
Neal Burton can you use them on the treadmill?
Yeah sure.
my only hate about the flyknit is that i slide around and there is no cushion. Also i flatenned it out very fast
Do more reviews please
will this shoe last me about 5 months of school cause if i'm going to spend $130 I need a shoe to last and I'd like it to last the summer to
I ran a marathon in these. Crazy lol
Its good if you can mention the milaga and miles of the shoe.
would you recommend these for warehouse work like walking on my feet up to 8 hours a day if not what are some simple and affordable ones for warehouse im not looking for anything stylish just something thats simple and comfortable for warehouse work.
Your feet will be very tired after working all day in these. If you need a good simple work shoe, I'd go with some Asics
Can you please do best most comfortable shoes
For long run please!!!
Thanks for sharing! I'm beginner to running. What running shoe would you recommend for me? I would really appreciate for help!
Dr martens mate
Awesome channel ¡
Hey! Do you recommend this shoe for an all day (8-10 hrs) standing job? Cause my stansmiths are literally killing my feet
That all comes down to what you'd like in a shoe. A more heavy set individual may need something more cushioned and much more supportive that a free flyknit, whereas someone of my stature (slim/athletic) can wear these all day with no issues. So it's first what your body will need and also personal preference
My biggest concern is the heel cushioning, i'm tall slim dude too yet i have some issues with my achilles tendon or something. Now i'm really trying to decide between these and the ultra boosts which they are overly pricey. I would apreciate if you could share your experience with the free rn!
can you review nike streak 6 and nike flighnit racer...
do the saucony triumph iso and the under armour bandit 2
just started watching but will say before I watch... these screwed up my feet so bad. my left ankle has been injured for 5 months now.. still trying to heal it.
What the...?
Yeah. I was running in them and my left ankle would start to hurt, but because I was new to running I thought it was just because of that. Ran through it for like 2 months and yeah.. RIP achilles tendon. To be fair, it's mostly my fault for not listening to my body, but still. I got some gel Kayanos and tried running with those and it was much better, but still ankle hurt from before so lol yeah.
i wonder between this nike or the reebok zpump ?
Hey hi. Would you please review NIKE LUNAREPIC
Review the adidas alpha bounce
Just got these in a 10.5, ordered and shipped.. usually a 11 in Nike Free runs, will these be a good size?
Sir Alfred XI hey how did the size end up feeling ?
Christian Balleno Fits perfect. Would definitely go the 10.5 if you are generally an 11 in other Nikes.
Sir Alfred XI even if you wore a sock ? Didn't feel tight?
can you review the nike flynit racer?
I just copped a pair!
justaction where at because I try getting them at foot locker but they ran out as soon I was gonna checkout
justaction if you don’t mind sharing because I’ve been looking in all sorts of places for these shoes specifically
Jocelyn Lopez I got them on the official NIKE site.
justaction nod you think you can attach a link to where the shoes exactly is because I couldn’t find it
Jocelyn Lopez I see where the issue might be. I live in Europe and the shoes are available on the NIKE Europe site, but not the US site.
are they good for everyday use
Try the adidas alphabounce. Awesome shoe for just 100 bucks
insole or no insole? take it out? toss it?
There my after run/chill shoes
Will you review the Asics Gel Contend 3?
He probably wont. not really his style. I'll say - they are fine, but go with the Nimbus or Cumulus. They are built better amd are more comfortable.
Is it good for a Half Marathon?
I know ya mutha we paint together...i like yur style ..hope to meet you someday
If I normally wear 9.5, what size should I get?
NguyeN/AzN I also wear 9,5 usually but This shoe is made small. I got 10's and its perfect
Take a size bigger
Can we do zumba or cardio in these shoes?
How much
Would you use these as a nurse to stand all day?
most definitely
I'd rather have a Nike Air Pegasus for the same price
Pegasus 33?
Has anyone told you that you sound just like Jason Sudeikis lol
all these years. still hasn't fixed the weak heal counter
great shoe that's not available anymore, Nike messed up their best product ever
i still have a pair (almost like new) 😃👍
If it's not durable and won't last longer.. might be better to buy something else
Thank u sir
would these be good for track? ( 100 and 400m race ) ?
carlos diaz that's what I got them for (sprinting training) I ordered them yesterday. I'll let you know
Okay thank you means a lot
for the race get some spikes
Why would you ever do this to yourself and your feet?! 😥
Clarify? If you mean "wear a free", it's definitely a tool for a specific purpose, as stated. Wouldn't run a half/full marathon in these by any means.
I wear a Merrel Vapor Glove as my out-and-about cover, but I agree... the Free series have always intrigued me as something I could keep in the trunk for when I need a "shoe", whether for an unprompted run or general cover
+TheGingerRunner I feel like Nike is trying to capture what Xero Shoes is doing, but Nike has the slipping issue you talked about that doesn't keep the platform snug to the bottom of the feet.
lol im 12 and i have size 13
I just bought a 12.5 from Nike.com, I am a 12 in an Air Max LTD I was told to go 1/2 size higher? How do the 13's fit you?
they feel good they have a 1 inch gap from my toe to the top for growing room
Gameplay All Day Ok so they are true to size... I heard you move around a bit in them so 1/2 inch for me isnt shit cool Thanks Man
Nike actually took "flyknit" from Adidas "Primeknit"
Нихрена не понял)
