    Welcome to an insanely exciting video that I never thought I'd make! I have made $100,000 on Udemy since I made my first ever course (what?!?). I wanted to celebrate by sitting down and working out the biggest lessons I learnt. Here are my 5 top tips for how to be a success on Udemy if you're thinking about making a course. I work full time online as a 'Digital Nomad' which means I get to travel the world with my fiance (Ed) and not be tied to living in any specific country. I do Freelance PR, teach courses on Udemy (check out my profile here - www.udemy.com/...) and of course blogging and UA-cam.
    ↣ When did you start blogging?
    I created my blog in 2012 when I was living in America. I was thrifting so much that I wanted to start sharing my outfits online and inspiring other people to look in charity shops. Now it's become all about my Digital Nomad journey and what it's like to be a female nomad.
    ↣ Where's your accent from?
    I'm from the South of England but I currently live out of a suitcase travelling all over the world.
    ↣ Where is your favourite place in the world?
    I fell deeply in love with Gili Air when we visited as a paradise getaway, but Chiang Mai is my favourite place to live. Plus of course, there's no place like home (Dorset in England).

      Natural Lilly Yes they have I consistently make about $200 to $300 a month on my courses, and that is with no personal marketing. some
      Courses perform better than others as digital nomad girl says your course topic matters. And number of courses this month I have added two new courses to my lineup and definitely want to add more. I also host the same courses on a different website “Skillshare” as well but Udemy is the top performing site so far. I am excited about the possibilities online teaching provides and plan to continue expanding.

    Thanks for the Video, it is really good to see that the method of saturation (Having A Lot Of Products) without promotion does actually work. Many big instructors have mentioned that something magical happens at the 20-course mark, similarly, many UA-camrs experience a surge at the 200 video mark. Sometimes it is just about showing up.

    Congratulations you’ve done well . My course is at $257.00 since launching 7 weeks ago. Strangely tin the last 10 days it’s gone very quite for me . Maybe only 8 sales. Udemy have seemed to have stopped promoting my course. Not sure why it’s had excellent reviews and current rating 4.8. In the process of making my second. Keep up the great work.

Many methods that I used to promote my udemy, but still the same people at the top and that course keep getting more and more student compare to new course.. And still takeover until now.. It seems not fair though. I doing the same method that I apply on Udemy on my local plaftorm and within 24 hours got sales compare on udemy.Udemy seems in favor the old course rather than newcomer.

    What I found most useful was you advice about picking a topic. I teach music in real life and on Udemy. Since I'm a singing teacher the first course I published was on singing, which is really competitive. I did no research really... I didn't look to see how long the bestselling courses were or what people liked and disliked about them in the reviews. The course did ok but I ended up doubling its length when I realised it needed some work to achieve good SEO. I have definitely published a couple of courses that are just too niche to make money, but I hope they helped the people who enrolled! Now I definitely look at Amazon best seller lists, Google keyword searches and reviews and promos on Udemy as well as the market insights when I begin to design a course. As you say, there is just way too much work involved in course creation to produce something which will only sell to 5 people. Plus, you want your courses to provide a solution to people's problems, which your Udemy course does in that it tells people about the practicalities of how to film. My problem at the moment is that I am producing course no. 8 but am starting to run out of ideas for new courses... I consulted my mailing list to see if any of my contacts had any specific issues they would like a course to address.

    Could you cover other platforms? I feel like Udemy now has competitors where you can make much more potentially. I mean Udemy has the traffic, but low payouts and AND they don't let you have contact info of your students.That's what I hear as the negatives. Would u recommend newbies starting on other platforms like TEachable ....and others.

    Hi Louise. Thanks for the great video. You're honestly a huge inspiration for me. I would like to know since you mentioned you end up making around 2 dollars per course after Udemy takes its cut if this happens with organic sales as well or only with affiliates and Udemy promotions. Until now I always thought you could end up making about half of the price of the course which let's say for a 10 dollar course would be 5 dollars for Udemy and 5 dollars for the instructor. Thank you in advance for your feedback. Keep up the good work.

    • @digitalnomadgirl
      @digitalnomadgirl  6 років тому

      Hi! Yes you're totally right :) For organic sales udemy only take half - but there are quite a few hidden costs like if it's sold through the app store, if it's sold in a european country where Udemy take the tax for you, if it's sold in india and Udemy give you a bad exchange rate, if it's sold through an affiliate, if it's sold through a facebook ad. Etc! So yes - lots of my sales do pay me $5 but a lot don't. I think if I average all my sales from the month they end up around $3. Hope that helps!

    • @digitalnomadgirl
      @digitalnomadgirl  6 років тому

      Ooo that's an interesting question. I'd probably keep the courses for now because you can use those free students to funnel to your new course. But possibly in future you could delete them if you feel it's affecting your instructor score. I think mostly each course stands alone though so I wouldn't worry too much :) Do you know what you did wrong?

    Hi! Love this video but over what stretch of time did you make 100k? 1 year? 5 years? Thanks

    • @digitalnomadgirl
      @digitalnomadgirl  5 років тому +1

      Hi Johnny. It took me about 3 years to reach this milestone. But the income was very staggered towards the end of that three years - e.g. for the first year I only had two months making over $1000, but for the second year that was pretty much every month. Pretty much all the money from this total was made in Year 3. Hope that helps!

    • @digitalnomadgirl
      @digitalnomadgirl  6 років тому

      Hi! You can choose any username you want on udemy :) some people use their names and others use a business name.
      Udemy automatically pays out into both instructor PayPal accounts and you can choose the percentage :) so if you want to to be 90:10 or 50:50 you just tell udemy and then it pays each instructor each month!

    but what do you offer to people you partner with?
    also, what about courses that you don't need to talk in front of the camera but have to show the screen only, what do you recommend?
    last thing: how to find people to make the course (video, editing etc.) for you?

    • @digitalnomadgirl
      @digitalnomadgirl  6 років тому

      Hi! I normally split the course revenue with the co-instructor depending on whether I teach on camera with them or not. And whether they have a mailing list to promote to.
      You can definitely teach a course without being on camera but I personally prefer to learn from someone on screen. But if you want to use powerpoint and a voiceover then that works too!
      I do all the course work myself - filming and editing. But I'm sure you could find people on upwork if you wanted.
      Enjoy!

      Hey Carmen. Yay it's all so exciting! I'm very proud :) Almost all of my sales are organic on Udemy so I don't think any of my students know who I am. I do get a few sales from UA-cam but it's only a couple of students per month. For sure you can be successful without being "big" on UA-cam (or instagram etc!). Good luck :D

      Hey! Someone else in the comments has requested a video on this so I'll have to get working on that :) Udemy have a built in tool to share a percentage cut directly to their paypal every month so that's the best way in my opinion. Hope that helps!

    • @JordanTheProfit

      Digital Nomad Girl I use sales funnels for my products. I'd love to help out for free. I can help you set up a sales funnel and help you set up your Facebook ad account and google adwords account. That way you can retarget your subscribers and make more sales. I don't need anything in return.

      Net profit :) as in what udemy actually put in my bank account. They don't track what your sales are but I'd guess at least 2 or 3 times this as the instructor commissions can be quite low after fees are taken out :)

      I still have my courses on Udemy too but my plan is to get a proper sales funnel set up for UScreen :) Udemy take a huge cut (I've sold 2 or 3 times as much as I've earned) so it'd be really nice to avoid that in future!

    From what I've heard from other youtubers who made Udemy courses, you guys earn around 3-4 bucks for the $10 courses, so I think it took you a veeeeeeeeery long time to get to 100,000 bucks...

    • @digitalnomadgirl
      @digitalnomadgirl  6 років тому +6

      Sure did! I made my first course almost 3 years ago but the past year has been a huge proportion of my income now that I've got so many courses and Udemy is booming. I do only get about $3-5 per student but I get thousands of students every month. It's been an exciting journey!

      Thanks! I actually just use my G7X camera (being near good light is very important to make it look good - so I am sitting directly facing a window). Then for sound I just the Rode Videomic Pro plugged into a phone or laptop and then synced up with the visual later. Finally, I have Final Cut Pro and I apply LUTs (aka a colour filter) to get the lighting and colour balance looking good. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

    3 years to earn $100K? That's poverty-level income.

    • @digitalnomadgirl
      @digitalnomadgirl  6 років тому +7

      It is passive income though :) I'm pretty happy with that! And it started off very small so the third year is by far the biggest. I'm very proud of my milestone and hopefully you can achieve the same :)

    • @UltimateBargains
      @UltimateBargains 6 років тому +1

      Passive income is the ultimate goal. Passive income can be leveraged into more passive income, creating a "snowball" effect. Aim to replace your active income with passive income, and continue growing your passive income.
