We had a GQ call while doing sweepers after entering port for Liberty. One of the fuel lines had blown a flange & sprayed JP5 on a lit off boiler. My GQ station was Repair 5-engineering repair- so I was adding foam concentrate to the FP180 tank as the hose team sprayed down the boiler & sluiced the oil into the bilges & hollering at the guy behind me for not handing me fresh cans fast enough. When things calmed down a bit,I heard a voice say "Sorry I wasn't fast enough with the cans.I'll do better next time." I turned to see the Command Master Chief a Boiler Technician himself standing behind me. We didn't get Liberty that night.Instead we watched cruise ships pull in during Spring Break before upping anchor the next morning to head back to Rosey Roads(Roosevelt Roads Puerto Rico) to pump bilges into a donut for recycling the mess.
the guys over at Red Jacket firearms (Sons of Guns) did one HELL of a show on the USS Kidd on the 4th July 2011. Gave the old girl one last mission to serve and defend the country she and her crew and we love so much. Rest in peace to the crew of this beautiful ship.
@smartsniper308 Sorry, thought it was the USS Orleck. Looks exactly the same. It has an interesting story behind it. Was nicknamed the grey ghost for its service in Vietnam and Korea. Fired the most rounds for it's kind during Vietnam.
Life vests, not ballistic. Only the helmets are ballistic. Ships can sink fast if catastrophic hits occur. You want to be able to ditch the helmet and jump overboard. British crews also wore flash gloves and face masks after Jutland due to bad sailor burns from flash fires upon a hit.
What are they planning to shoot at ?? I was in the Tonkin Gulf when a MiG attacked us...and a destroyer nearby. From what I heard the MiG came in so fast there wasn't even time to swing the gun around
Manually-aimed AA guns like these might not be all that effective against jets, but they were plenty potent against the propeller-driven planes this ship faced in the Pacific during WW2.
Nice (LOL) fake. If you start with incorrect information everything that follows can and probably will be false as well. The first guy's haircut was so over the top. And then he goes in the wrong direction for another - it's up and forward on the starboard side and the signal is wrong. So this is a fake.
My Grandfather lived with a different fear during the war. Drowning in an engine room. He was a mechanic on a destroyer.
What branch and position
@@isaacsilvas2285 US Navy, 1942-1945, not sure of division. He passed away in 2005.

Before or after the old guy whored his daughter out for meth?
You just have to love a Fletcher DD.
It is the uss kidd in Louisiana it is a museum it was in combat in ww2 now just a museum
My grandfather served on another Fletcher-class destroyer, the USS O'Bannon (DD-450), during World War II.
Way cool. Thank you for all your time to learn how to do that
Oh, yeah, drop that swab where everyone can trip over it!
They know enough to look as they go to GQ stations.
Not bad not bad.
Let's get it under 30 seconds ladies.
Dontchajust love them drills?
I'd hate to be on the deck in the 20 mm gun tub when the 5"ers are firing too.
I've never been in the military but I strangely find this rather amusing
It is more than amusing, obviously none of the men in the vedio has never been in the navy.
Love how the life jackets aren't strapped on
Not sure who the guy is at the beginning....but he needs a haircut.
My first thought as well
Chin straps on those helmets !!!!!
I don’t care if this is re-enactment the dude chucked his headdress half the ship away, that’s also waaaaaaay too much water to mop a deck 😂
@smartsniper308 You couldn't have said it better here.
Hoo-yah Navy!
One for all and all for one . . .
My dads battle station was the port orlikon by the bridge on a flower class corvette
Oerlikon not orlikon

Pretty good actually.
the steel was more to protect against general shrapnel not direct hits
@muffdiver0069 have you ever heard of a training exercise
Ship is now Located in Lake Charles, La. Toured it today and met some of the men who were stationed on here. What an honor.
No, it is not. It is in BATON ROUGE, Louisiana.
what's those Flak/fragmentation vests they'r using?
Life vests, not ballistic. Only the helmets are ballistic. Ships can sink fast if catastrophic hits occur. You want to be able to ditch the helmet and jump overboard. British crews also wore flash gloves and face masks after Jutland due to bad sailor burns from flash fires upon a hit.
where is this ship located at??
The USS Kidd is docked at Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

+Tim Doyle This is the USS Kidd, stern deck.

They are life jackets, not flak vests!

Jyral Nadreth not sure if I should be offended by you’re comment or just ignore it

+Matthew Arntzen Living history at the USS KIDD DD-661; we were drilling as a 20 MM crew.
