Great video. Love the points that if it isn’t working, just back off and try again. One thing I work on is telling everyone to only go to/from the boat if you can comfortably “step”. We never jump.
I have to say as a female I love seeing another female boater taking charge. I am a new boat driver and had a bit of a bad docking experience last summer, but I plan to get right back out there this coming summer and practice practice practice!! Being on the lake with our boat is heaven to me! 😊🚤
Ya, my husband who didn't want to get wet, took a swim when as I was docking because we were coming in a tad hot so I put it in reverse and my husband leaped to the dock but because I put it in reverse he didn't make it and went swimming. Both of our faults really, bad communication! I live in Utah and already have spring fever because it gets us that much closer to summer!! 🥰
I’m 70, wife is 64, we never had a boat but bought a 16’ Smoker Craft fishing boat in March. Your clarity of explanation is excellent, no bs, to the point and it has been a great help to us. BTW, 25 years ago for 12 years I was Chief Advertising Photographer for Lowe’s Home Centers. This was before digital cameras were in use and everything was shot on 4x5 or 8x10” sheet film on a view camera where you looked at an image that was backwards and upside down. It takes a certain way of looking at things to be able to direct someone to move something around in a scene for you. I began to think that way normally. Consequently, I have found backing the boat trailer or any other trailer rather confusing. The solution for for us has been to have my wife do all the trailer maneuvering. She does really well, I do all the rest. The was the first video of this I saw, I immediately said to Carol, “you gotta see this woman, she’s great,” We thank you.
👍 good video. I’m an old time boater and the only thing I would suggest is to not jump off or on the boat. Get close enough to step off.........less chance of getting injury.
First timers use buoys as mock docks.. I did this when I first went out.. get good at pulling up to the buoy so you can touch/hold it. also I found that a lasso rope or dock grabber was very helpful if no posts are there.
Hi Chantel, I would prefer that you hold a bow line or stern line when stepping off the boat as you are the captain and should be in control of the boat at all times. You can get caught out with current wind and dock moving. Also, I was waiting for you to show how to ferry the boat. Move it sideways. André in Sydney
Great Video! Thanks for helping us newbies! And... what a small world, I ride tested my new boat on that very lake this year! Good to someone local helping so many people out.
The key with a v-drive or direct drive is to know which way it will pull when you hit reverse and how much pull to that direction the boat experiences. I had a Nautique DD that pulled to the spotters side and it really didn’t pull hard but my new MOOMBA pulls hard to the drivers side. Planning is key and baring in mind wind direction is important as well. Your point about speed is great advice...slow and controlled is way better than the alternative which can be costly in more ways then one.
Agree with this completely. Head to one end of the lake that is protected from wind and is smooth, then throw the boat in reverse with medium throttle and back up maybe 50 feet to determine which way the boat is going to pull and how hard it will pull. Knowing this and practicing will allow you the control and confidence to do whatever you need to do. When you think you have it down pat, try doing a 10 point turn in the middle of a tight canal.
Each technique is explained very well and easy to understand the main concept for every1 , smart the idea of the camera on your hand using the controller, many dont think on something so crucial and important. Thank you
I have been driving boats for a long time, but looking to get my first towboat. I am coming from I/Os so I can reverse however I want. One thing I never see in these videos is what to do when you have to dock on the port side with a tow boat. Since they won't really reverse that way without a thruster.
This is a good video with easier docking techniques if you are a newbie but the second technique will not be possible or very helpful if it's a strong wind or current. If that's the case then I go towards the dock in fairly high speed to not lose steering ability and then when I'm close I throw the motor hard over towards the dock and but in a kick of reverse, this will not only stop the boat's momentum but also bring in the stern. You will not be able to pull a bigger boat in windy conditions, you'll have to maneuver it.
Unfortunately I learned on a large lake with random 1ft waves at a minimum and wind. Going that slow will put you where you don't want to be. If the wind is in your favor coming in from the side works and is my favorite method. You have to come it hot and reverse quickly. I wish my lake was that calm!
Exactly. This series is Boating 101. If you watched the video I tell people to practice in perfect conditions so when they get wind and waves and currents they are more prepared.
Its a shame that at many marinas you can't practice this stuff because the line ups are huge and people get super angry at anyone inexperienced. The angriest people I have ever seen are at boat launches.
Great driving. I think your main point is to not dock on the dock. Pull up get on or off and leave space for other boaters to use the dock. It’s less work and leaves room for people launching or trailering their boats.
Hey Chantel, I love your channel. Keep up the hard work! I currently have a 07 nautique sv 211 and we are looking to upgrade to a newer surf boat. I love nautique. I would like to get an early G23 but every video I see looks like the wave is so short. I saw your video with the GS 22 on the water and the wave looks way better. Any advice is appreciated. thanks!
Hi Donald! The wake on the G23 is shorter, but very powerful with a ton of push. The GS22 wake is a little longer, but it doesn't have the same push as the G23. The GS22 really shines if you want a boat that has a great slalom wake and can still surf. I like that surf wake better with more weight in the boat than the sub-floor ballast - you can order the pro-ballast option or get even bigger aftermarket bags, but the surf wake still won't quite be what you get with the G23. If you are thinking G23, get behind it and see how far back you can get on the wake before you lose push - photos and videos can be deceiving! Your dealer should be stoked to take you out!
I would also like to try that! I've been in crazy river currents, rain, and wind, but never with tides - would be a totally different experience, I'm sure! Nothing but respect for boaters who deal with that!
You got the skills to do it. Been a boat captain for a long time and you seem to understand all the variables involved i.e. wind, traffic so if I saw you out on the big water I'd feel fine. Great vid
I would try to do starboard side whenever possible, but if you have to go port, you'd bump into gear and out of gear forward with the wheel all the way right to swing the boat in that direction. It's a little trickier, but still do-able.
You might want to let people know you are in a lake with no wind ,tide or current. When docking where those conditions exist they all must be taken into consideration 👍
Actually its best to learn on a little windy day that way u get comfy with current and other boater pressure. U can practice on prefect days, but let’s be honest heading back to the docks and ramps are never perfect conditions.
Ha ha good point! Normally I would, but this particular dock has built-in bumpers. I would already have them out if I'm pulling up on the side on any other dock!
Chantel, very nice maneuvering and techniques but I have one critique. Your passenger should not be sitting on the back of the boat already waiting to disembark. They should be inside the boat until you are in position for him to leave via the platform. You never know what could happen and your passenger would be in harms way if the wind, wake or some confusion caused you to back the boat into the dock. Your passenger could get caught between the boat and the dock.
I have life jackets in the boat. Depending on which state you live in, the laws on who is required to wear a life jacket while underway differ. Anytime I'm riding behind the boat or even swimming, I'm in a life jacket.
Finally a good video on how to dock a boat or pull up to a pier. Thank you!
Great video. Love the points that if it isn’t working, just back off and try again. One thing I work on is telling everyone to only go to/from the boat if you can comfortably “step”. We never jump.

We've all had bad docking experiences!! So glad you are sticking with it! We need more ladies in boats!

That is the nicest looking wakeboard boat I have ever seen. I used to ride a 220 about 12 years ago, but this is next level!
Nautique boats are sexy but hefty $250k (new) or more. Pavati boats are super posh.
Newbie boater here - this was very helpful and I can't wait to practice the techniques you describe. Please keep sharing!
👍 good video. I’m an old time boater and the only thing I would suggest is to not jump off or on the boat. Get close enough to step off.........less chance of getting injury.

Taking boat out for the first time today, thank you!
Really enjoyed this video. Especially appreciate the advice at the end. Keep up the great videos. We, the newbies, really appreciate them!
A perfect dock is a huge ego boost. I like your saying that you shouldn't approach a dock faster than you're prepared to hit it.
The over-the-shoulder shots like at 1;17 are great. So many boating video don't show anything resembling the pilot's point of view.
Hi Chantel, I would prefer that you hold a bow line or stern line when stepping off the boat as you are the captain and should be in control of the boat at all times. Great docking techniques, very common sense, Thank you!!
Made that look so easy !!!!
Thank you for answering to my request!! Please do more of these boat tutorial ❤️
Awesome video! Rlly helpful for a new boater, please make more of these type of videos if you have time, helps us a lot! Thanks

Great video. I use all 3 but I stay away from the 2nd one when its windy and rough.
You rock! Your instruction is spot on. Cant thank u enough
You're welcome!

It definitely changes things when the wind and waves pick up!
Dang that boat looks so cool. Futuristic kinda.
Good tips. However, the second one were you're alone, well, you don't ever get of like that without a rope tied to the boat in your hand.
You are an awesome teacher thank you. Love your videos.. looking forward to more!
Beautiful boat.
Best way to be successful when docking a boat is docking when no one is watching.
😂
Great video, very helpful! Thanks
Nice channel! Happy that I find you!
This was great for me as a first time boat owner! Thank you so much for sharing! :~)
Thats some decent driving !!!
Good info, even if no dock lines used. So just touch and go's...
This particular dock has lines and bumpers already attached to it, so no need for them on the boat.
great person. look forward to more easy peasy videos. thank you for doing this.
your a beast!! i wanna be like you! i'm a newbie female boater with a 19foot boat to start off with good tips
So awesome!! Boating is the best. Let me know if I can help out at all!
That is a really awesome boat ! I especially love the wake tower.
You make it look easy
It is easy if you do it enough!
Nice video!👍. Wondering what kind of fish are in the lake.
good video, with lots of well explained tips
'editing dept. gets an A+
'may I suggest having your fenders and tie lines in place?
Great tips, subscribed
Love your videos. Thank you so much.

That’s easy docking advice for glass like conditions.
Now add wind, waves, and weight in the boat.

wow...awesome techniques!

taht was smoothhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
im going out this summer and practice those three tactics .... that was the look of a boat pilot
Good stuff. If you ever want to learn how to polish your boat's, let me know.
You are just bad assssss! I wanna be a pro just like you
DO IT!!
Thank you!!
Nice video. You sjouwden do this now with more wind.
She is a professional, and nice boat!
Thank you

Nice. Can you do a step by step on the side in ... please?
Got it ! All I need now is a boat...
Great driving. I think your main point is to not dock on the dock. Pull up get on or off and leave space for other boaters to use the dock. It’s less work and leaves room for people launching or trailering their boats.
And don’t for get to either cut your engine or make sure you take out of gear before you jump of the boat alone
Great!
nice!
I love the layout and shape of that boat! What is that? New boat owner here so not very familiar with everything
This is a Nautique GS22. It's a V-Drive towboat!
What model boat did you use for this video? It looks really nice.
It's a Nautique GS22
Hey Chantel, I love your channel. Keep up the hard work! I currently have a 07 nautique sv 211 and we are looking to upgrade to a newer surf boat. I love nautique. I want her to try that slide in on a real body of water you where there's tides and wind going in opposite directions
I would also like to try that! I've been in crazy river currents, rain, and wind, but never with tides - would be a totally different experience, I'm sure! Nothing but respect for boaters who deal with that!

No wind you can maneuver easily.
Yup! That's why we picked a nice calm day to shoot this video. And practicing with no wind makes it so much better when there is wind!
that is a beautiful boat. what is it?
It's a Nautique GS22
Do you need fenders?
Not at this particular dock. Those posts are padded. Generally you would want fenders out.
you went in on your starboard side. if that boat reverses to the right how would you go in on port side.
I would try to do starboard side whenever possible, but if you have to go port, you'd bump into gear and out of gear forward with the wheel all the way right to swing the boat in that direction. It's a little trickier, but still do-able.
is their thrusters on that boat?
Nope! No thrusters. They can be nice for really big boats in tight quarters, but aren't necessary for most boats in most conditions.
You might want to let people know you are in a lake with no wind ,tide or current. When docking where those conditions exist they all must be taken into consideration 👍
Yep. Like I mention, I picked a clear, calm, uncrowded day to practice, so when you get into those situations you are more prepared.
Only go as fast as you want to crash into the dock...I was told by a Dock Master
Actually its best to learn on a little windy day that way u get comfy with current and other boater pressure. U can practice on prefect days, but let’s be honest heading back to the docks and ramps are never perfect conditions.

I like ur boat, what is it?
This is a Nautique GS22.
Hi what type of boat ?
This one is a Nautique GS22.
My boat is not very forgiving....
What kind of boat is this?
Nautique GS22
Don't let the armchair captains and ramp/dock gawkers throw you off your game. You drive your boat like you own it and to hell with the rest.
Damn woman, how many boats do you own???
If you are alone on boat you should never disembark the craft.
These boats wake pisses me of in the river
Is that a nautique g23 or g21
It's a GS22.
@@ChantelBoats nice

Your practicing in a pond
Private ski lake, actually, but yeah, it's pretty small. Same methods apply in a bigger lake, though...
