What I don't like is when David interrupts Louis, which he does way too often, as if Louis can't complete a sentence or can't explain himself better than he (David) can. That annoys me most.
But, in David's defense, the two have been together for a long-long time, so maybe that's what comes with their friendship. Makes me smile when Louis talks over David when David tries to interrupt him. Go Louis!

Let's get this straightened out. What happened is that there was a bill to fund the government and Ted filibustered that bill to prevent its passage. The republicans also had a bill and it was a HUGE giveaway to big corporations and wealthy, and it also would have prevented funding of the ACA. It would have been a disaster for an economy that was still struggling to get through a difficult recession and would have made it that much harder for the poor and middle-class to get any kind of relief. That's just being honest though.

(CNN)It's official. Sen. Ted Cruz is now a citizen of the United States -- and the United States only.
If you remember, the Texas Republican was born in Canada to an American mother and a Cuban father. As such, he was a dual citizen -- an American because of his mother, and Canadian because the country, like America, grants automatic citizenship to anyone born there.

No harm in that, except Cruz is considered a potential candidate for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination. And when the news of his dual citizenship surfaced last year, thanks to a Dallas Morning News piece, some began to question his eligibility to become president. (In truth, that was never in jeopardy. Most legal experts said Cruz qualifies as a "natural born citizen," a requirement for the White House job, as stated in the Constitution.)
The newspaper piece came as a revelation to Cruz as well.
"Because I was a U.S. citizen at birth, because I left Calgary when I was 4 and have lived my entire life since then in the U.S., and because I have never taken affirmative steps to claim Canadian citizenship, I assumed that was the end of the matter," Cruz said at the time.
Then he took immediate steps to renounce his Canadian citizenship.
Well, that process was formally completed last month, and he received a letter in the mail this week telling him so, the newspaper reported Tuesday.
"This is to certify that the person named above has formally renounced Canadian citizenshp and pursuant to the Citizenship Act will cease to be a citizen on" May 14, 2014, the letter read.

I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.” Whether the Obama likes it or not, negotiating is part of his job.

The president's position is nothing more than a political bet. He is betting that the Republicans will have to fold under the pressure that he creates. The consequences are serious for the thousands of people who have been furloughed. These people have two weeks before their pay is cut. The consequences are more serious for those who depend upon programs reduced by the his intransigence.
These are serious consequences for everyone except the president because his bet is probably a smart bet. The ACA is open. The Republicans core base may or may not like the ACA, but that dislike will quickly erode as the government ceases to provide services. Moreover, people are blaming the Republicans.

It's like you going out on payday Friday for one month and spending your money on everyone at the bar, coming home, sleeping off your drunk and doing this again four times in one month. At the end of the month you're hungry, the rent is due along with credit cards, utility companies sending you 'we'll turn them off if you don't pay', car company wanting their money and all you have are memories of nameless people drinking booze you paid for with........your paycheck so what to do? Borrow from relatives, payday loan companies, pawn anything of value and borrow from other places. Doesn't sound familiar to a democrat. Most aren't accountants or money managers. If there isn't enough money coming in how do you pay what's owed? Borrow from somewhere else or live within your means? Do this long enough and some people will notice. I did but then I pay what and who I owe.

I'm certainly not by any stretch of the imagination a Ted Cruz fan. However, it appears that the young men who developed this video don't seem to understand how the Federal Gov't works. Ted Cruz certainly grandstanded that October, but he didn't and nor could he 'shut down' the federal government. The agencies that closed their doors were directed to do so by the Obama administration, not by a single senator, for the Senate doesn't have the power to withhold federal funds, the House does. All Senator Cruz did was to filibuster which didn't close a single door. Obama and the democrats used the situation to close agencies to make a showy stunt for those whose propensities are geared towards shallow name blaming. Otherwise, Obama keeps all the doors he wants open regardless of what either the Senate or the House have directed per the Constitution. Bob Shieffer was snickering because he knows that the shallow public is now so stupid that they'll believe anything.

the Congress presented a budget to Obama, who rejected it. when that budget was rejected then the government could no longer legally spend any money and so 17% of it that was deemed non-critical closed down. Ted Cruz represents 1/100th if the Senate and no part of the house , so he is hardly the entire Congress, whereas Obama is indeed all of the president. it therefore makes a lot more sense to say Obama closed the government then to claim that Cruz did.

It does take 2 to tango. If the Republicans control Congress and Congress is in charge of the how much money may be spent, then the President has to find a way to negotiate with the other Party. Otherwise, the Congress would be just paper entity with no power. Congress, by law, has the power of the purse. If the President wasn't agreeing to sign a reduced appropriations bill, it's as much on him as it is on Congress.
