Boresight lock with aim7E sparrows is less desirable than a flood mode lockless launch since these missiles take 4 seconds after a lock to “warm up”. Strategies must take type of aim7 (E vs F at two seconds warmup)

Had not learned about lockless sparrows yet! This is awesome!

There’s a number of steps - did you look up Enigma’s video on “flood mode”?

I find aim-7Es to be useless. Even when Jester gets a lock, you wait 4 seconds and -when you fire- the enemy is nose-on hot 3 miles away, it will miss if the enemy aircraft moves at all.
It’s hard to practice your procedures and tactics when you can’t tell whether your missile fails to guide or hit b/c you made a mistake or because the missle failed. For that reason, I think people should learn how to use the aim-7 with the “M” model. The Aim-7m is a really good missile so if you follow procedures and launch in parameters inside 5 miles, you have a really good chance of a hit. So if it just flies off and doesn’t track, you know YOU did it wrong.

Do you know if the F is more accurate/ reliable? My practice has been for flying in eras when that's all there is.

@@Wheelman_PCAS Yes, the Aim-7F is an improvement over the E model but i don't find its by a whole lot. The Aim-7M variant that came out in 1982 is a VERY capable missile and performed excellently in the 1991 Gulf War. They are deadly in that 2-5 mile range. Doesn't mean it hits all the time but it is reliable enough that - if you are using the systems properly, you should have no problem taking out head-on approaching aircraft 5-6 miles out. If you are consistently having Aim-7M missiles fail to track/impact, then you are likely doing something wrong.
I advocate using the variant that is realistic for the time period; BUT, when it comes to learning the system, use the variant that lets you know when you are doing it right. You have no idea if your Aim-7Es aren't ever hitting b/c of your error or the missile failing, Makes correcting errors tough

@@mikeck4609ah ok. Reminds me of the shrike in the A4 and also this plane. But hey at least the E can be fired in boresight without a lock to scare people before the merge.
