I've been around a long time and I have no recollection of The Taylor Sisters (although I remember this song as performed by THE COOKIES). Were The Taylor Sisters popular here in the States?
Correct, the Cookies had the stateside hit with this. There was "Chains" in Nov '62, then "Don't Say Nothin' Bad" in March "63, then this song in the summer of '63. Too bad this great version was not released.
Hey mate, The cookies were the first to do it, then an obscure version by Carole Davies (of New Zealand) surfaced in 1964, but The Taylor Sisters (in the video) never released a version of it, only performed it "live" on Bandstand as shown here. If you wanna be pedantic, then they recorded it because before anygroup would perform on Australian TV they'd record the song with backing singers and all in the studio about an hour before the show, and then 'lip sync' to themselves. cheers
Oh god i remember them! Does anyone have their recording of "Love Bandit".. havn't heard it since 1963 or something! Wer'nt they bloody cute! Does anyone remember Candy & Mandy who were on the Aussie TV and music scenen a bit earlier? What ever happened to them??
;-)) FUNNY to watch "an old-fashioned" mimicry - too frank face... they are trying to do the best! but now, in the third millenium, we are spoiled by hightech, freedom of every kind of music, a big amount of singers... This video is a kind of nostalgia about alive natural voice and sincerity. :-) Thank you for a storage of the History.
Lovely performance, definitely not as good as the cookies. But my own preference is for a much more recent cover version by the Japanese doo wop / pop covers group the 'Oh Sharels'. Check out their video of the song in the bar. They are a recent discovery for me in 2022 and i have simply fallen in love with their fun style & live performances,
I made a slight error; after checking my music reference book I found out that the third hit for the Cookies was a song called "Will Power" from July of '63. Their fourth single was "Girls Grow Up Faster Than Boys Do" from Nov. of '63. Then their lead singer, Earl-Jean, had one more charted single with "I'm Into Something Good" in June of '64; which was covered by Herman's Hermits and became their first hit in America in Oct. of '64.
Written by Carole KIng and Gerry Goffin, it became the third Top 40 hit for the Cookies in early 1963.

One of the 45's I listened to with my girlfriends (over and over again)

Freaking awesome!!!!
fabulous
Marilyn was also a "Happy Little Vegemite".
@JohnnyGNV I think they were Brits. Brit girls did a LOT of covers of American GG hits.
Australian Girls :)
This sounds EXACTLY like The Cookies' version, with the (so-called) 'sisters' vocals - of which they're barely is - was layed of top.
