What a great concert, Gabriela! You obviously gave it all, in this concert. You are everything a musician dreams of becoming: a world class instrumentalist, a Master composer of the highest caliber and what really never fails to impress me, your miraculous ability to improvise; undoubtedly the best in the world ... And the fact that you are from the country and city where I was born makes me really, really happy ... You truly deserve the warm and passionate ovation which the German audience embraced you with. And trust me, if I had been there the ovation would have been even longer and louder ...
I especially enjoyed the second and third movements. The second movement is really poetic, melancholic and passionate. It's a sort of Argentinean tango / danza. And the third one is really interesting, exciting, dramatic and fun and its original Aire makes it even more appealing to me: Allegro Venezolano which in Italian means: di buonumore (cheerful, joyful, lively, de buen humor) which is what really characterizes us, Venezuelans ... A few humble suggestions Gabi. I know that you are used to expressing everything with the piano (in a virtuosic way) and that you haven't composed too many works for orchestra but I honestly think that the concerto would be even more interesting if you gave the orchestra a little bit more showing (the piano is practically present all the time, it's like too much piano (same in Ex-Patria) in my humble, honest and constructive opinion. And since you composed it in a traditional 3 movement form, a cadenza would have been great. But not a composed cadenza but an improvised cadenza (like in the classical period) so the work sounds different every time you play it (it would really make it even more exciting and interesting, I'm sure. Painters like our Armando Reveron used to say that you never finish a painting. And some of the great composers also made changes to some of their works many times throughout their lives, mostly the ones who were great improvisers ... Chopin used to play his pieces differently every time he played them ). With all the knowledge you have (which is like Julliard and the Tchaikovsky conservatory together and multiply by a million) you can not only compose wonderful works for orchestra (and other instruments besides the piano) but you could also learn to conduct an orchestra (trust me, with your amazing knowledge, talent and experience you can become a conductor in just a few months, probably weeks (I'm not exaggerating) and conduct your own works (and others')from the piano or the podium. A lot of musicians (with all due respect to all musicians,) who are not even close to your caliber, have done it. (mostly composers) You have everything (and more) it takes to be a great conductor (Your concerts would be even more interesting) Please, my heart would die of frustration if you leave this world without ever doing it ... You are a great composer and improviser and it is exactly what the world of music needs: new and fresh music. There are millions of pianists (musicians) who play the great composers already but who don't have the ability to compose or improvise the way you do ( there are countless recordings of the great Master pieces, too). Give the world of music more of what it really needs (and will thank) and what really makes you exceptional ...
And with the Over the rainbow improvisation at the end you really broke all the legs in the hall. It was the golden cherry on top of this already great concert . You're an amazing composer but honestly, it's your improvisations what really makes my heart fly (composition is more intellectual; improvisation flows straight from the heart ... straight from God ...)
This concerto would really sound much better interpreted by a latinoamerican orchestra, no doubt. I wish you and Dudamel had a better relationship. This work conducted by Dudamel and interpreted by the Simon Bolivar orchestra and you, would simply be out of this world ... The world doesn't need more division (there's enough of that, already) what will really change our world is Tolerance and Love ... Unhealthy Politics (politicians /right and left), lack of moral values and healthy spiritual principles is what has ruined our country (and the world). You and Dudamel could give politicians, Venezuelans and the world a great lesson ... An artist can give much more than his/ her Art ... What this world really needs is (much more than music) Love ...
    Bravo!!!

We are so privileged to have this genius pianist and composer with us, and to experience her unprecedented music making skills and talents. She is some kind of (dare I say it?) supernatural channel to the music that must somehow be intrinsic in our universe. We should all marvel and enjoy her while we can.

My heartfelt congratulations for the premiere of your Concerto. But equally for the bach-style spontanous composition on the rainbow theme. The force is with you and the MASTER himself raised from his tomb in St. Thomas to see who came to his hometown.
May you find the peace that is neccessary to write more great music.
May you recieve the wisdom neccessary to defend the spirit against a crazy world. And "May you stay forever young!"

Especially the first movement is at times rather like Ravel doing Gershwin, both also in their pianoconcerto's No. 1, but whatever, it's great music anyway. At last something new in the jazzy / latin idiom that was popular for an all too short time in the 1920's. Bravo!

Google translation of the information under 'SHOW MORE"
The Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero is one of the few classical artists who have the ability to improvise on any subject posed by the audience and thus bridge the gap to jazz and other music.
Meanwhile, Gabriela Montero increasingly uses this ability in composition - the premiere of her "Latin Concerto" in the Gewandhaus Leipzig testifies to this.

OK, I am probably going to get lynched for this but Mrs. Montego's remark that her improvisations are the ultimate form of musical creativity borders on the tasteless. Surely creating something truly new is that ultimate expression and not combining solutions that have been rammed into the subconcious brain over years and years of practice, however impressive that in itself is (I wish I could do it! :-) ). In the end all these improvisations are however simply derivative. Basically all this music is 100 years or more old. Having said all that: Credit where credit is due. It's all still very, very musical anyway!
