- Another week, another entry in Dave Cam’s Zero to Hero series. This time around, things are going to get a bit spicy as this week, Dave takes on the Global Mazda MX-5 Cup at Oulton Park.
This Fanatec Global Mazda MX-5 Cup official series is a mainstay fixed series on the iRacing platform. Dave knows a thing or two about this combination as well, having raced here in his Traxion.GG MX-5 series last year. The International variant of the track is the primarily used one, and that’s what Dave will be taking on again today.
Last week, Dave had to deal with the likes of Piers Prior in multiple FF1600 races at Summit Point. This week, the iRacing matchmaking system has traded in Piers for Jack Doohan, a championship-winning Australian driver who currently competes in Formula 2 and also holds the reserve slot for the Alpine Formula 1 team.
Doohan is starting on the pole position while Dave is starting as far back as he possibly can as per usual. This week, that means a seventh place starting spot. Can Dave cut through the field and scrap it up with who we think is the real-world professional racing driver? Spoiler alert - yes. Apologies go out to George, though…

Hi Dave. That was me in front of you that didn't get off the line. This is going to haunt me forever.
I'm an Aussie, have followed Jack's career very closely, I watch all of F3, F2 and F1. I was so excited to be in a race with him I just couldn't believe. Then at the start my pedals were non responsive. Of the 100s of races I have done across games that has never happened before. I was shattered.
Then I wake up this morning and see that you, my go to for Mazda tips and the only content creator I get tips from...was not only right behind me when it happened, but also recorded the race.
The fact that I didn't get off the line, the amazingly bad luck that's happened in this scenario...it's going to haunt me for the rest of my life...
Always loved your work.

great race to watch, george was unlucky but you had the pull out of the corner and just shows how easy accidents can happen!

Man, you make it look so easy Dave! I was well on my way to win my first race this week in oulton park thanks to your tips, but my nerves got the best of me and I suicided at the second chicane. But you helped me a ton man, keep these coming
Racing "Time" is based on mistakes. The impossible trick is to not make them or limit. Your beaming smile before the incident shows why we love hard clean racing. Well done to everyone.

I've only been on iracing for two weeks and I've watched all of Dave's videos been super helpful. All I need now is a race were I dont get 10 incidents from being punted off into the barriers from being dive bombed.😅

I raced twice Max Verstappen yesterday at VIR with the Ferrari Fixed. He won of course. We were all about 1S off his pace. I actually came 4th not bad . I sent him a message at the end, just saying “ just wanna say I am a big fan”. Guess what? didn’t reply! Oh Well … I guess I am not a fan anymore. 😂 to be fare I think he knew I was lying because I am actually not a fan so I guess that’s why did not reply. lol😂
I met Neil Hogson and Troy Bayliss after a race at oulton park, I being a Brit wanted to meet Neil. He was such a tit it blew my mind and Troy was an absolute gentleman. I named my next dog after him and followed his career. Hodgson sucks balls man. Such a diva.
I’m struggling so hard to stay on this track so far, scared to do my first race but hopefully with some more practice sessions I’ll be able to get out there. Seems like the hardest track so far this season to learn
agreed I'm still doing practice as don't feel confident for a race yet, super hard track
I got black flagged in my first race on iracing, it definitely gets easier.

Hi Dave, just watching this back again since getting back into iracing on my new 4k 43" tv (from my dell 23" 1080p) 🙈. After doing the view calculator for my seat position and screen size, im left with the mazda interior mirror quite low down and almost in the way of me seeing right turns, I can see the exact same dash height as yours in this video - any tips please?

So when you say you sent them a message. You mean a message during the end race (in game), or can you send them messages outside the race (without having them on your friends list)

To be fair Jack made a mistake and George was reacting to it...not his fault but a contribution to his death non the less.

In only the right speaker, can anyone else hear the occasional (1-2 times every 10 seconds or so) high pitched beeps in quick succession in the MX-5? It appears to only be with this car.
They are in the Right speaker only, and it seems much easier to hear it with headphones.
I hear it on replays, in the car, and even this UA-cam upload. It is there 100%, I just don't know what the hell it is or how to disable it. Cockpit view only is when it is heard. 😒
It's been there for months and months, it's so bad I don't even want to drive this car anymore.
I can't hear it I'm afraid. Young people are able to hear higher frequencies than older people (like me). Would I be right in thinking that you're young?
The alternative possibilty is that your headphones don't like a specific frequency, could you try different headphones just to see?
