  • The poor old, beaten and battered Model 3 (although I love it that way) was a little silent in the last video (as pointed out in the comments :) ) - so lets fix that.
In this video I'll go through 3 options for sound out of your Model 3!

Back in the day, I'd put an AM radio next to the PC and listen to that. It worked so good, that even the neighbors could hear it on their radio.

I've never opened up the case of my TRS-80 Model III - seeing you do it makes me appreciate how easy it is to get inside a Commodore PET!

Dude, the PET even comes with a kick stand to hold it open for you haha

Just be cautious not to break the picture tube. Best to lay the front shell on its face when you open it up.

This sure took my back. I recall using a transistor radio leaning against my Model 1 in order to get 'random' sound from the RF emanations given off by the woefully unshielded case. Thanks for the memories!

There used to be a program for the model 1 that used the interference to play "William Tell Overture" and worked really well.

Nice work. I've got a TRS-80 Model III here too that I need to do something with; this is motivating.

this was my highscool life, retyping "dodge" every single lunch time and playing it until time to go back to class..
    god I'm old lol
only the main unit in the room actually had dual floppies, the rest had to "network" to it. ahhh the olden days ~as I remember in black and white~

i like the idea of it all being inside, so its like other some other computers, mine has the two power supplies like that but the spaces are all taken up. so i would consider putting a jack to plug into.

For my M4 I use the DIN out to a mono-bridged 3.5mm that my son made for me. This lets me plug in crappy PC speakers. Robot Attack is great with the voice wav's! The internal amp option seems cool... until you save something to cassette; R.I.P. ears!

Find yourself Cosmic Fighter. The intro has the most awesome sound you can imagine.
Btw: you left something out when mounting the amplifier: an OFF-button. ;-)

IMHO it was still a bit soft, mainly (I think) because the speaker was acoustically "short circuited", it needs a sounding board. I would have mounted the speaker "side down" (from the position you mounted it) and with a piece of cardboard with a round hole in it the size of the speaker membrane, so the membrane has room to move, and mount it where the cooling vent slits are, so that the sound waves are "pushed to the outside of the case, and the cardboard prevents a short circuit of the pressure waves.

we're not exactly talking about a high fidelity computer here.

The camera appears to have a Sync problem with recording the screen is why it is rolling the video that way.

This applies to Model 1,2,3,4 and is the same cable for the Model 100 portable also. Then to enjoy it, get a copy of Orchestra 80

Nice video. Pro tip, you should always test pin to pin to verify that you have no shorts in the cable when you are testing with a multimeter.

There are no voltages that would cause any problems. Only one that did that was the Remote that you hooked to the tape recorder to start and stop the cload and csave commands.

The audio is at microphone level so you need a lot of amplification to make it useful. There are some games that would also talk. Crude speech though as it was digital samples.

But you needed to up the volume a lot more so we could actually hear it. I had to crank up my volume to MAX just to hear any sound.

Why not just get a male - male 1/8 mono plug adapter and just plug the Cassette Cable into the RCA cable (shown at 1:32) and be done? No soldering, not cable destruction, same result.

wouldn"t a "y" adapter have been easier? thats what i did with my model 1. Just asking

      I Y adapter where?

    • @rietveldrietveld3568
      @rietveldrietveld3568 4 роки тому +1

i connected my cassette cable (3.5mm ) to a "Y" cable with a 3.5mm in to 2 x mono rca out. Its basically what you made but ity just plugged onto the cassette cable without having to solder anything .

    • @rietveldrietveld3568

I love his dedication to the trs,80. I simply wondered why he didn't just pick up a cheap adapter from amazon instead of building one. I picked up a cheap y cable for both my Model 1 and 3. Just seemed easier than building one from scratch
