श्री नरसिम्हा जयंती, भगवान कृष्ण के आधे सिंह, आधे पुरुष अवतार, भगवान नरसिंह का शुभ प्राकट्य दिवस है। परम पुरुष अपने भक्त प्रह्लाद को उसके आसुरी पिता हिरण्यकशिपु से बचाने के लिए प्रकट हुए।
हिरण्यकशिपु को भगवान ब्रह्मा से विशेष वरदान प्राप्त था कि वह किसी मनुष्य, देवता, पशु या किसी अन्य प्राणी द्वारा नहीं मारा जा सकता था। उसे न तो दिन में और न ही रात में किसी भी तरह के हथियार से मारा जा सकता था। इसलिए, भगवान आधे आदमी, आधे शेर के रूप में प्रकट हुए और सभी शर्तों को पूरा करते हुए गोधूलि के समय उन्हें अपने नाखूनों से मार डाला।
नरसिंहदेव वैशाख के महीने में शुक्ल चतुर्दशी (शुक्ल पखवाड़े के चौदहवें दिन) को संध्या के समय प्रकट हुए।

Sri Narasimha Jayanti is the auspicious appearance day of Lord Narasimha, the half-lion, half-man incarnation of Lord Krishna. The Supreme Person appeared to protect His devotee Prahlada from his demoniac father, Hiranyakashipu.
Hiranyakashipu received a special benediction from Lord Brahma that he could not be killed by any human being, devata, animal or any other entity. He could also not be killed by any kind of weapon, neither during the day nor at night. So, the Lord appeared in half-man, half-lion form and killed him with His nails at twilight while satisfying all the conditions.
Narasimhadeva appeared at dusk on the Shukla Chaturdashi (the fourteenth day of the bright fortnight) in the month of Vaishakha.
