My husband is African and we recently had a small beach wedding this summer. His sister had 3 (the last wedding was on Saturday). Both my husband and I have a lot of student loans and I told him that we are not having a big African wedding and big Western wedding.....we have to "knock off" these loans with Aid Advantage formerly known as Navient formerly known as Salle Mae. Our goal is to be debt free not continue to be in debt behind a costly wedding.
To explain: when Toya said "this is not the life I wanted", she meant that this life (which is a life where she doesn't spend time with her husband. A life where can't talk to her husband cause they no longer connect. A life where she's unhappy despite having everything that they have. A life where her husband doesn't spend time with the kids. A life where it's mostly just her and they no longer seem like a team. A life where she had to seek outside consul cause she felt like her husband wouldn't understand where she was coming from or her thought process) was not what she wanted. She thought that they would always be on the same page, things would always be spicy, and they would always have time for each other. Eugene even admitted to the guys they he realized that he missed out on so much, cause he was working so much, that one day he just woke up and started to contemplate what he was doing it all for. He is missing the kids growing up. He's missing time with his wife. He's missing out on just living. So that lends clarity and a bit of backstory as to why Toya feels the way she does and why she's constantly trying to get him to understand that he can slow down and not work so much hours. Hopefully that clears it up. Edit: Don't forget, Toya had a miscarriage a few seasons ago and since then, she's changed so that's also a factor as to why she's feeling the way she's feeling
I love that Toya is sharing but with her I roll my eyes and say girl you contributed to your unhappiness. Get a simple house and save your money so he can be home more. Toya should have been doing hosting jobs or been on the talk show with Quad but she hasn't done anything.

They don't show her doing events, writing her book, doing photo shoots for features in magazines (they did a glimpse of one last season but many people wouldn't even know, with how they edited it, what it was really for unless you follow her, or her other business ventures. They don't want to show us that side cause then what would people criticize? People wouldn't be able to say that she's taking advantage of Eugene, she doesn't work (even though this show is a job), she does nothing all day, she's the reason Eugene works as much as he does. Eugene cannot provide the lifestyle Toya clearly wants to live and be at home/present for the kids. It’s not possible. Every time Eugene indicates he wants to make a change (transition away from emergency medicine), Toya screws her face up. The reality is that Toya is unhappy because she is too busy trying to “put on” for other people. If she was willing to live a more pragmatic lifestyle (& focus entirely on her family), Eugene could be physically and emotionally present for her and the kids . I really want her to grow up.
Yes, it's possible to provide that lifestyle that they BOTH want. What people are failing to understand is he CHOOSES to work those extra shifts. Do you realize he's working 80 hours willingly? He's no longer a CMO but he likes the pay that came with it so he is choosing to miss out on family time and watching his kids grow up cause he was taught to just work and be a provider. Toya made that face cause she had been preaching to him to cut back and find out what makes him happy. The very first episode of this season, they spoke about him being unfulfilled. She recommended that be find his passion and work on himself.... or are you all forgetting that cause you are so focused on what you think is going on with them? The issue with this is that, I find that alot of the viewing audience doesn't seem to like when people share their true lives anymore. They would much rather see the drama, the catty fights, fake storylines, etc because that's what's entertaining. I feel like, of this entire cast, Toya is the most authentic and open (since day one) but yet and still she's the one that gets the most flack because of it. For that fact, the rest of the cast don't want to open up cause they don't want to be on the receiving end of things from the public or they would rather stay on the side that gives the criticism to the rest of the cast. Had Curtis not cheat, we would have never seen a "human" side of Jackie. Since then, all we've seen is infomercials. 🙄. Had Cecil not get to buddy buddy with his friend, we would have never seen the real issues that led to the breakdown of their marriage. I work in the emergency room prior to, during and since covid. It changed every physician I work with; many recently retired. Covid exacerbated stressors already there and I wish they'd admit the toll of living beyond their means & the constant moving because it would release some bondage. Toya also had no outlet and had to sit with reality (life, loss, family, finances, etc)which isn't her norm. Eugene also couldn't play stuff off anymore. They're likely dealing with a lot and don't have a safe space to "land" where they'd be comfortable opening up...no one respects Toya!
