Try Expanded Mermaids mod, it improves a lot of things and I reaaaaally hope EA will one day remember that "refreshing old packs" thing they did with spa day and hire SpinningPlumbob to improve mermaids officially
When I first started playing the sims 4, Island Living was like one of the first packs I bought because I was obsessed with mermaids as a kid/teen. My first few sims were pretty much all mermaids and I always lived in Sulani. But now that I've seen how much more thought out the other occult types are, I agree that mermaids are in desperate need for a refresh.
Island Living has one of the most beautiful worlds in the game! I would have loved to see more interaction between mermaids and the environment and how that might influence their skills and such!
I play with vampires more than any occult mostly bc i grew up in a household who loved vampires and werewolf movies. My dad and i specifically would spend all day speculating what we would do if one of us turned. We also wondered if there r some weaknesses that actually rn't true like being weak to garlic. My favorite style of vampire comes from the movies Van Helsing and Underworld the kinda medieval weapons mixed with modern day was such an interesting idea to me
Mermaids got a CaS refresh in the form of CCs and mods. A mod allow mermaid to snorkel. They need a perk and ability progression like other occult. They need to have to work to unlock their powers, and have more of them. The reason that she's upset with those stuffed fishes and when catching fishes is because of that «Child of the ocean» trait. She'll also get upset from eating ANY meal containing fish.
I tend to use island living for the teen/young adult phase for my sims before they do college so it's like a gap time frame and the reward from the pack does help not get burnt out or midlife crisis
I rarely use this pack, or occults overall, but I created a goth mermaid recently and moved her in with a werewolf boyfriend. No ocean, just a dirty pool in their backyard. I felt kinda bad. 😅
in my main save i use island living as a vacation destination for my mainland sims and then i have a section of it where the locals live and i have a whole (pretty realistic unfortunately) section of lore about the monopolization of the islands for vacation rentals and tourist-attracting restaurants and then in my storylines the island locals are always slightly annoyed with the tourists except for when i run little romeo-juliet type teen romances between a visiting teen sim and a local teen. fun times haha. i think it’s such fun summer gameplay
The Kava Party thing where all of the guests immediately socialize is a glitch, I've had it happen every time I do a Kava Party for at least a year now.
Mermaids being low-maintenance is actually the reason i love them the most of all occults. Their occult type not being the center of their whole personality gives us more room to create a cool story for them. And their magic doesn't feel like a malediction or a mission, they are just a little different and that's it. I love that, and also they have fun special gameplay (like with the dolphins and the weather).
And i really miss the underwater Lots from Sims3. And some Base Game and earlier Pack Worlds need Waters where your Sim can swim. In the Cats and Dogs World theee you can live on a Island but can not swim in the Ocean?
I like spellcasters best, because you can have them and never play as witch… it just doesn’t interfere with everyday gameplay, while still offers so many useful features and spells and I could go deep into being a spellcaster at anytime
Spell casters are my favourite!! My legacy family have ancient spell caster bloodlines and if they’re born as a normal sim they usually become another occult sim later for fun lol
The mermaid pack also gave us the Conservationist Career so it wasn't all part time. Also, the mermaid kiss makes it so non-mermaids can temporarily breathe underwater so that's why the first sim didn't die. I'm not sure if it does anything different to other mermaids. Island Living is one of my favorite packs so I know a bunch about it lol I somehow always have a sim in a family break off eventually move over there and make it there mission to clean the island.
I love playing with mermaids but I never play a save that’s exclusively island living because it doesn’t feel like there’s enough to do. Personally my favorite occult type changes depending on the movie/show/book I’m into at the time. Like right now it would be vampires but later it might be spell casters or werewolves.
honestly this is such a throwback!! i remember i first starting watching your videos around the time you posted the island living 'spin the wheel' letsplay. it had me cooked 💚
I think they could still try to make an actual Mermaid gameplay pack and Island Living is just sort of a "sneak peak" of mermaids for people who like them but aren't looking for heavy gameplay of them. The game pack could mainly have a water-based world (not sure if they could do a whole underwater one), a hidden lagoon or a grotto - it would seem sort of like Sixam: completely removed from the everyday, but it has functional lots and residentials. The aspirations probably wouldn't be too different from the Vampires... True mermaid - only the sea for me, coexist mermaid - wants to know other lifeforms, wants to be human mermaid - Hello, my name is Ariel... Then there could be a skill tree that builds upon the semi-lackluster powers we see them use in Island Living, plus other sorts of skills.
Vamps will ALWAYS be my favorite but I’d love to see her do something with aliens because they don’t even have a specific aspiration like??? I guess you COULD use the strangerville one but idk
Bring back dive sites! Building and exploring dive sites was the #1 thing that kept me playing TS3 way after TS4 came out. Underwater building in TS4 would be beyond incredible
I've got a nostalgic connection to the vampire occult type since I grew up playing the Sims 2, 3, and 4 (and Medieval,, probably my favorite sims game still to this day) with two of my older cousins, and I just made vampire sims every time I was given the choice of sim type :)
There is a mermaid (husband) in my current legacy household and mostly I forget he’s a mermaid lol. He hangs out in our pool when he needs hydration and I placed your sulani house as a rental and we sometimes go for beach vacations.
I had no idea you could get money from dolphins either so I would love to see a dolphin rags to riches! Also, I really wish the Sims team had given mermaids an occult tree too, they definitely feel half finished.
this reminds me of the island living wheel of doom challenge you did a couple years ago - would love to see another let's play like this with randomised events!! it was so fun
If anyone wants to know good mods for mermaids or occults for the sims in general Spinning plumbobs mermaid mod is everything we needed for mermaids and more!! I personally could play on the mod for days if given the opportunity and if you don’t cheat up it is a genuinely good challenge to get up their stats
island living is the pack that got me back into the sims 4 and also got me to your channel so it always has a special place for me, but it is disappointing the lack of things to do in general in the pack with the occult and also all the other aspects of it, like the conservation aspiration or whatever it's called
My favorite occult of all time is aliens because as a child playing the Sims 2, my masculine framed sim got abducted by aliens and had an alien baby, but I had NO IDEA that could happen so it BLEW MY MIND 🤯 My favorite occult to play in Sims 4 is werewolves because they’re HILARIOUS to play with, even more so than Sims 2 werewolves. When I found out about werewolves in Sims 2, I went around biting everyone, turning the whole world into werewolves and could not stop laughing! 😂
It makes me sad bc mermaids are my favorite occult bc they are easy to play with, without it distributing your normal gameplay. The eco stuff is cool I feel like we already have an its own pack for that. I wonder if anyone made a mod
My favorite ocult is spellcaster. I'm someone who doesn't like to bother with filling my Sim's needs, so the needs potion is a godsend! Plus, if you want to play as a thief, you also get the Burglarate spell that lets you steal bigger items, and the Spectral Reach trait lets you cast the spell in private, without risking your Sim getting embarrassed from being caught
TS3 Island Paradise is one of my favourite packs of all time tbh. The scuba diving wasn’t just a rabbit hole; you would actually control your Sim in a gorgeous underwater location where you’d collect fish, seashells, avoid sharks (or be eaten by them!) and woohoo in an underwater cave! You could also choose the option “Take Underwater Photos” and there was a collection similar to the Observatory one in TS4. And that’s *just* the scuba diving gameplay! Houseboats were my favourite lot type. You could park them at a dock, or you could sail out further into the ocean and set up next to a scuba zone like I did. Mermaids were so much more dynamic. They *had* to swim in salt water every few days or they would evolve into full humans, and instead of hygiene they had a hydration bar. You could dry out and die if you didn’t pay attention. (Edit: Totally forgot this was still in game lmao). I think they also didn’t eat human food, but I could be mixing that up with the vampires. But I do remember *constantly* diving for seaweed for my mermaid to eat 😂 I have no idea what happened with TS4 Island Living. I heard the houseboats were super bugged for a lot of people, but I didn’t have a problem. But I really don’t understand why they would do the mermaids so dirty. Edit: Kayla you forgot the Conservation career! You’ll have to study water samples and clean the ocean. Also just a fun fact but I believe the mermaid you were romancing is a reference to Ryn from the tv show Siren.
meanwhile Aliens crying in a corner totally forgotten. They SO deserve a skill tree like vamp/werewolf/spellcaster.
There's a mod called "Expanded Aliens" that fixes it! Although it's pretty old, so I'm not sure if it still works

I tend to use island living for the teen/young adult phase for my sims before they do college so it's like a gap time frame and the reward from the pack does help not get burnt out or midlife crisis
2:06 I didn't know mermaids mourn on fish on the wall debug items.
listening to lilsimsie’s videos in general without watching it and without any context is an experience
You should def do rags to riches with dolphins, also btw if your mermaid sim dies of like hunger whilst in the water they can drown
I wonder how the Weenmaid Stanley will look like...
Its also the child of the ocean trait that makes most of the issues, a mermaid without it doesnt mind the fish i dont think.
I'll forever hope they redo the mermaids one day. I was SO excited about having mermaids for them to come with absolutely nothing
Married a mermaid in my current legacy gen, both of the kids were mermaids and I was like “I gotta figure out a way to turn them human”
The Kava Party thing where all of the guests immediately socialize is a glitch, I've had it happen every time I do a Kava Party for at least a year now.
I was thinking the same thing about mermaids; gonna download the mermaid mod to get some expanded gameplay
Omg, yes. Stanley as a mermaid doing dolphin rags to ritches! Like a hotdog themed mermaid would be beautiful
Our car caught on fire last night & im having the worst day imaginable. I needed this video.
@@courtney6883 sending you good vibes! You got this.
Island living has a ton of potential and hopefully the Sims 4 team will realise that and give it an update 🤞🤞🤞🤞
Yes, Stanley as a mermaid with a dolphin sugar daddy is the storyline…wanna see this for sure 👍🏻
I played with the expanded mermaids mod and it’s exactly what they should have added to the base game, I love how talented modders are ❤
And i really miss the underwater Lots from Sims3.
And some Base Game and earlier Pack Worlds need Waters where your Sim can swim. In the Cats and Dogs World theee you can live on a Island but can not swim in the Ocean?
What would be so cool is if Kayla started a legacy challenge with any occult type. Like a vampire legacy would be so fun! ❤
I like spellcasters best, because you can have them and never play as witch… it just doesn’t interfere with everyday gameplay, while still offers so many useful features and spells and I could go deep into being a spellcaster at anytime
there's a mod that makes mermaids more complete but as the regular pack omg they had so much potential
Why is the Kava Party always so much harder for me? Haha
Yeah, like what??? Usually I'm drowning in tasks like "have three guests dance" or "make a kava toast." Kinda jealous tbh
i love the idea of mermaids in the sims 4, but they were executed so poorly.
honestly this is such a throwback!! i remember i first starting watching your videos around the time you posted the island living 'spin the wheel' letsplay. it had me cooked 💚
Thank you for talking about this! I wish they added an underwater world within Sulani where you can meet other mermaids
I would love a rags to riches dolphin video! Stanley as a mermaid would be an interesting sight 😭
"BESS PLEASE" caught me so off guard but it was SO funny lolol
seeing stanleys mer form is an essential. rags to riches is an absolutely from me
Its sounds and looks just like a vacation. Both in the activities and in how its just for a short play, just like vacations.
I come back to island living every summer, it’s a vibe 🐬🌺
Omg Im so excited to see Stanley in his water sausage mermaid form
There is a mermaid (husband) in my current legacy household and mostly I forget he’s a mermaid lol. He hangs out in our pool when he needs hydration and I placed your sulani house as a rental and we sometimes go for beach vacations.
Mermaid Stanley is something I NEED.
I had no idea you could get money from dolphins either so I would love to see a dolphin rags to riches! Also, I really wish the Sims team had given mermaids an occult tree too, they definitely feel half finished.
I didn’t even know dolphins existed in Island Living! I would absolutely love to see a dolphin rags to riches.
thank you for speaking on this cuz now we might get it!
this reminds me of the island living wheel of doom challenge you did a couple years ago - would love to see another let's play like this with randomised events!! it was so fun
Aliens deserve a skill tree 😭💘💖
If anyone wants to know good mods for mermaids or occults for the sims in general Spinning plumbobs mermaid mod is everything we needed for mermaids and more!! I personally could play on the mod for days if given the opportunity and if you don’t cheat up it is a genuinely good challenge to get up their stats
Coral: *_walks through refrigerator_*
Kayla: *_doesn't notice_*
I need mermaid Stanley Humphrey to test the Rags to Richs Dolphin edition
spinning plumbobs mod makes mermaid more fun. you can even be a seawitch
for an EXPANSION pack it gives more game pack vibes... they need to refresh mermaids asap
island living is the pack that got me back into the sims 4 and also got me to your channel so it always has a special place for me, but it is disappointing the lack of things to do in general in the pack with the occult and also all the other aspects of it, like the conservation aspiration or whatever it's called
Mermaids are also the only occult that don’t have their own unique bassinet☹️ please give me a cute clamshell bassinet sims team
I think plant sims could have been less difficult. But honestly my favorite occult are the vampires. Mostly because of the natural length of lifespan.
You can kill other sims with siren call it usually takes three tries
My favorite occult of all time is aliens because as a child playing the Sims 2, my masculine framed sim got abducted by aliens and had an alien baby, but I had NO IDEA that could happen so it BLEW MY MIND 🤯 My favorite occult to play in Sims 4 is werewolves because they’re HILARIOUS to play with, even more so than Sims 2 werewolves. When I found out about werewolves in Sims 2, I went around biting everyone, turning the whole world into werewolves and could not stop laughing! 😂
Literally me with my teen vampire!! 😂😂😂
Simsie fell in love with a siren 😂😂
I need Stanley in mermaid form so much and this is definitely the way.
expanded mermaids mod is a lifesaver
Mermaids are so cute its really sad how boring of an occult they are😔😔
TS3 Island Paradise is one of my favourite packs of all time tbh.
But I do remember *constantly* diving for seaweed for my mermaid to eat 😂
I have no idea what happened with TS4 Island Living.
I'm ready to see mermaid Stanley living off the dolphins. LOL
i def think you should do a rags to riches with dolphins! also, i love you vidsssss!!!!!
