"Life isn't an image, it's actually the DOING of it." YES! This is exactly what I've been struggling with for years, especially with all the professions/jobs I've been in. Thank you Zen Master. 🙏

That "one teacher" he mentions who said to have a Beginner's Mind is the great Shunryu Suzuki.

There was once a time when I felt I had to speak and speak hours on end about subjects and ideas. I felt I had to be intelligent because I had nothing else. Now that I have found I no longer feel compelled to speak. it's odd because I could've been like this the entire time. it was just there all along. I have know idea what has been found though. I'm not sure I even completely understand it. There is no name to give it though. I call it "it" because I'm speaking English at the moment and that's just what happens to be convenient. Even though I feel I have found something I do not know what to do with it. It's like I haven't given myself completely over you see. very odd. I'm not to bothered though. I will realize when it is time. I'm just happy to enjoy what I have now.

It's a pity he didn't just say that the quote about beginners mind was from zen master Shunyu Suzuki Roshi.. Zen mind beginners mind. Maybe the only book you would ever need. 👌

Genuine question: it's a great idea to blow off modern society - I would love to live a simple life, but I would lose the chance to have a partner and a family as generally having a low income makes you unattractive to 90% of people. If it wasn't for this pressure, I would give it all up tomorrow but my need for status is stronger, the fear of being an unattractive nobody is strong.

+rafer Jefferson iii Never blow off society, only help others. Simple and clear mind is better than a "simple life"

    • @jacketgreatorex

+rafer Jefferson iii Hello rafer,. I think blowing off modern society, the simple life, the chance for a partner and family, high income, attractiveness, status and fear are only concepts and only exist as concepts in the present moment. They are concepts based upon an idea of a controllable future. So when you are not worrying and being fearful about these concepts, you feel that they will never come. And in a way that is right because they will never come TO the present - they can only manifest spontaniously in the present. If you bring your attention away from ideas and concepts based in a future (which only exists in the present in the form of fear and worry etc) it doesn't change anything about the unpredictability of your life and present.
      What do you think?
