I didn't know this show was still running. I'm not the biggest fan of this show but I know Erica Goldberg is one of the most likeable characters ever created. A pretty girl character done right. Surprisingly relatable. The loneliness she went through before finally found her boyfriend who doesn't seem to fall into the category of the hot guy or cool guy trope that women normally go for. Basically an innocence and non shallowness that most characters that look like her don't have. A kindness. An inner beauty. I don't think it's far fetched that women like that exist. Beautiful women that struggle to meet guys and struggle with loneliness. Some of whom might not even have had their first kiss yet. If you find a woman like that hold on to her. She's the type who'll likely appreciate you. A pretty girl that actually struggled with forced loneliness? What are the odds? Who knows?
That’s not far fetched at all. That’s most “pretty” and “non pretty” girls when they’re young. Most struggle with loneliness. She’s somewhat unique in that for how concerned with image she used to be she doesn’t care enough about it to let it get in the way of having a not conventionally cool boyfriend. So that’s nice of her. But also not a crazy unrealistic idea.
I gotta admit, the actors and actresses playing the siblings and teenagers age like a fine-wine. They're growing more into studs with every new season lol!!
I know what you mean. And as ridiculous as it sounds, I can't stand Barry or Beverly. Barry is spoiled selfish and just plain a dickhead where Beverly is selfish,conceited,and just plain annoying!
@@Robocoppat The Goldbergs has been falling off for a long time imo. Barry and Beverly were okay in the beginning when the show was fresh. But because its supoosed to be episodic, they never actually grow from their actions. So Beverly goes through the same moral lesson of "Im not the centre of my kid's world. I need to stop smothering them. I need to get a fkn hobby that doesnt involve meddling in other people's lives." I wonder how the real Beverly feels about her character being portrayed as a psychotic malignant vulnerable narcissist. Im sure she wasnt that bad of a parent. Meanwhile since Lainey has gone, Barry has had nothing to do in the show. He just sorta mills around and tries to tag along in other character's plots. They killed all his development and now he's just a dimwitted non character. Adam used to be a little kid trying to prove himself as being more grown up and mature, but ultimately having to learn lessons about what being an aduot actually means; how to handle relationships, mortality, family tension, disappointment, duty to others and to oneself, responsibility for one's mistakes. Its amazing how in these later seasons he's managed to regress into a less mature person and crappier boyfriend than he was when he was 12 or however old he was at the start of the show. Idk if Adam the showrunner intentionally sabotaged his own portrayal, but its pretty bizzare. Erica is one of the only characters who feels like a real person. She's had the most sensible arc, going from being the cool as a cucumber popular girl in highschool, to essentially peaking after graduation and realising that the real world is a wee bit bigger and more daunting than she expected, to her crashing out and becoming a lazy, depressed and unmotivated to her then deciding after a year of hard knocks to pull her socks up and get back in the race to reapply for college. Her relationship with Geoff is golden (although Geoff needs to spread his wings more and be a bit more assertive.) But the way they have progressed is really good. I think the writers need to take a step back and think about where they want the characters to end up. Dont forget there's also Lainey's sequel to this show, so how to they get from here to Schooled?
Erica is my favorite character. We’ve watched her go through so many ups and downs that she seems real. But literally everything about this scene is the opposite of her character. For 8 seasons they’ve gone out of their way to show that she’s an unsentimental unromantic lump who takes after her father. She seems to reject all this girly emotional stuff. Geoff is the romantic and sometimes she gets annoyed by it. They’ve recycled this plot a few times and now they want to act like it never happened. Earlier in the season Geoff got fed up with her and I thought there would be more conflict this season. Fun conflict but conflict none the less. Geoff was getting compliments on his new look and shown he’s a really likable person to other kids on the campus, he wasn’t just “dependable”. I thought he might have a few girls like him and Erica might get jealous. Of course being realistic about superficiality, they probably wouldn’t be as pretty as Erica but that could be another source of comedy. Why did Geoff think she didn’t believe in him in the first place? Probably because she can be kind of mean sometimes. I know the obvious point here is the superficiality of the beauty contest. Geoff isn’t some ripped muscular handsome man and he’s entering a contest with a bunch of ringers. But it just doesn’t ring true to Erica’s character that she brings up Geoff’s romantic side so others can appreciate it. She hasn’t shown to appreciate it herself. /procrastination from real life over.
How I would respond to this comment: maybe it is just charchter development. I think for the past few episodes in this season, we have seen her character develop so much compared to how she would typically act. She is slowly changing in personality over time, all of the characters are. I think we just have to let the producers slowly bring us the character development and I think it will be enjoyable to see how they all change with time.

And Erica is very much like her father is that whenever there is any issues between him and Beverly and she feels he has let her down in some way, he always raises to the challenge to show Beverly his appreciation. Whether it just for them or to others in that he is proud of her. So this moment here between Erica and Geoff in trying to booster his confidence of himself is pretty much something that Murray would and has done for Beverly. Case in point recently when Beverly lost the election and was down on herself that Murray told her about the good things she done in deciding to run even though she ended up losing. So yes this was very much in keeping with Erica's character especially given she takes after her father.
