- Lauryn Hill gets booed while performing on stage at the Apollo Theater (13 years old at the time). She performed the song "Who's lovin you" in front of a merciless audience. Little did the they know... Lauryn Hill would have the last laugh... many years later, of course.
damn.. most 13 year olds would have never picked up a mic after this.. instead she made history
Now she's a homeless bum here in New Jersey
and ur clearly mad
+Ashley Percival And do you even realize why, if she is??
+Ashley Percival shame if it's true.
Yeah lol she got into drugs and lol it is true
Wow. What a class act at 13-years-old. She didn’t allow the boos to stop her. A powerful lesson.
Another lesson; not every song is for every singer. 😃
@@Sharon23 she did it better then you can
Why were they booing her
Hi Sonja, how are you
You mean a Sister Act!!!😜
She wasn't phased by the negativity even at that young age. She went on and that ending was super smooth. Legend
Seemed like she even took some energy from all that noise and turned it around.
@@wordivore true
Word
She pass the test
I am sorry but in my honest opinion this is why some of us black people can't get along with other black people because other black people are very ungrateful with their no class closed minded attitude and it's obvious why Laryn Hill prove all of them dead wrong.
She is a beast. AT 13?!?! She had that kind of confidence and security and perseverance. This is probably the most impressive performance I’ve seen.
stop the cap
I wouldn't even boo a person I hate on stage .
*****
???
Same. This is just horrible.
Especially a young teen.
kids had spines back then... not delicate little shits like today...

Turning a crowd around shows true talent.
Mostly it shows determination… beats talent every time.
Loved when she took the mic off the stand even after being booed! STRENGTH!!! ✊🏿
Y'all gonna hear me sing.
@Lovely Days That was cool they gave her that advice! She probably carries that advice til’ this day.
So awesome
@@the_stepfit_maven3991 you know she Lauryn Hill right?
Lord knows I don’t have that type of strength lol 😂
Her voice was just a bit shaky because she was clearly nervous. Wow, people need to give her a chance. So proud of this girl for holding onto her dreams so tightly!
And she grow up to be a super star Name Lauryn Hill.
And she grew up to be a super star Name Lauryn Hill. And she played in a movie called sister act with Whoopi Goldberg dreams really do come true.
I didn’t get why they were booing. That part wasn’t bad at all
Because the Apollo was ruthless, they were not there to pass out participation trophies. But if you could handle it, you left a star.
She came back and slayed.
ua-cam.com/video/ki7gxLbhXkU/v-deo.html
And also probably not the best song for her voice
Being nervous can really mess up your voice. She’s so incredible even being nervous
Yeah it does, but no she sucked.
It really can
@@TradBarbie Towards the end her voice was a little okay and that little run she did at the end though was too cute😭❤️
@@nehemiahgary7536 Well I'm bias because I hate r_c_st people. She said she doesn't even want wh×te people to listen to her music.

They didnt boo the whole time. She was a little weak to start and pitchy. Girl was 13 tho she just got better throughout this performance
They are feeling dumb.
Those people were dumb then, I assure you that they're dumb now.
@chrn byrn for booing a child
who booes a 13 year old............ people are insane
Silent Night money aint crap!!!!!
Never been
True. She's a warrior. It could have made her quit tho. In any case it's really painful to watch. Adults booing a 13 year old that's just not reasonable or appropriate.
The Apollo theater is notorious for harsh, honest feedback, so all contestants know this up front. She handled it like a champ & I bet it made her work that much harder to become one of the greats
Black people lmao
She’s only thirteen and she sounds very good to me. She also has great stage presence and she’s so pretty. I can’t believe people booed her.
Okay her age doesn't have anything to do with her founding good or bad normally a thirteen-year-old would definitely have a singing voice if they're going to have one
@@AnimalLover-- You are making no sense. The original comment acknowledges she's 13 and also says she independently sounds good. This is without autotune and this is a very hard song to sing. Also, you can learn to sing at any age. Some people are born with a good voice, but in order to be great at singing, you have to work hard and develop the talent over time. Name any popular artist known for their vocal ability and they will tell you how hard they worked as adults to keep their talent or learn how to sing properly.
She was just nervous
@@JG_Person whats being as old as 13 got to do with anything
Those weren't people.
It takes balls to get up on stage and do what she did.

She got the mic like "LOOK AT ME BITCH! I'M HERE TO SING!!!"

Love how she kept singing 👏👏👏
Same! Glad she didn't let this prevent her from becoming a star!!!
She was so good! Especially at her age, so many ppl were older than her and couldn’t sing a lick 💀
There not trying to sing there trying to listen to a good song where there supposed to be honest to the person performing you ain’t nothing but a little ❄️ World would be better if people like you didn’t exist.
I can't even imagine watching this as a parent. If I had a daughter who got booed singing on stage, I'd be leaving the building in cuffs
dwadefan4lyfe2 tbh😒
FACTZ! Words out my mouth. Not grown as men/women booing MY beautiful, talented baby girl. It would be a WRAP!
Aw! You're a good parent! 😊
dwadefan4lyfe2 they had to polish that diamond
You soft as shit
That was iconic. She fought through it and won their respect and love by the end ❤️
She had heart. Strong young lady I loved her voice
This was interesting to hear it wasn't the best ,but you can hear potential. And the fact she kept going even with the booing. To think of what this little girl goes on to do later in life. It shows we all got to start somewhere.
Yup
I Love How They Went From Booing To Clapping ! They Knew They Couldn’t Keep A Real One Down !‼️💯💙
I’m feeling down on myself lately like a failure and this video just gave me chills, her strength and resilience inspires me and the way it paid off to keep going. Glad the algorithm threw this video my way!
She was adorable and you can tell she had a pretty voice back then just needed some training. Now look at her 🙌🏾😍
the ignorant people that booed her should look inside and ask themselves "who's loving you?"
Ian Maguire lmfaoo word
Ian Maguire lmao. For real though
She’s a very strong person at 13 idk why this made me emotional we really need to be nicer as human beings ! She’s a trooper and didn’t stop singing wow at just 13 she had the guts to stand there and it break !
Omg I bet those people feel bad now. She is a star and fought to be where she is. Very talented woman.
DAMN she's so strong and brave! She's signing to a huge audience, on a big stage, on TV, getting booed, and she just keeps going! AT 13, I would've boo-hoo cried and ran to my mommy!
She sung good though... ecspecially for a 13 year old
hell no she was awful l but she mustve been hella nervous or sick..
@@Nile15rush_fj no she wasn’t. She was just off key. You try singing like that
@@iLikeCok off key in a live performance. Idk what else I gotta tell you.
It's ok this boo is what made her the sensation that she still is to this day real iconic woman.
It’s just nervousness, she has a beautiful voice.
they went from booo to applause her as she step her game up
I'm the 100th like 😁😁😁😁😁😂🤗
She won them over. They had no idea! What confidence she had at age 13.
Lauryn always had heart & resilience! Love her !!! Look at her now!
The fact that she kept singing and believing in herself is amazing!
That's it girl you sing through it and get the applause your deserve at the end 👏
She sounds nervous as shit. She made the crowd come around at the end though.
It hit different when you grab the Mic while being booed like you killing it . That’s confidence on steroids especially at 13 . 🎉🎉🎉
I'm so glad this experience didn't discourage her. We would have missed out on some great music.
I'd have to fight everyone who booed my babygirl like that. So mean and cruel but that was the Apollo and the culture back then. It takes massive courage to get up there especially being a child.
Forever loving you Lauryn ❤
Just a rocky start she cleary corrected it seconds into it , and the entire crowd responded with claps and cheers you would think that with the title that she was booed the entire song.
Correct, or booed after the song.
But still. Who boos a child?? Plus she showed strength. Every other 13 yo would have ran off the stage crying.
@@e.limani2888 Yes but this is who they are. 13 or not everyone knows the apollo crowd is tough as nails
The confidence is amazing. To be that composed and self assured at her age is an inspiration.
She is a perfect example when the world gives you lemons you use it to make lemonade. At that tender age her confidence could have been demonised but she prevailed eventually. Thank God she did not give up. Thanks Lauren for being that example and sorry you went through that negative experience at that age🥰❤️
Oh my gosh this was such a bittersweet performance. Those who boo'd at her started clapping! She is so cute!
I love how she held her head up. That’s real confidence, & age 13 at that? 👏🏽
she didn't even sing bad 💀
Kayt The Great And you're not tone deaf? Unlikely. The first part was shit (probably from nerves).

Gordon Cowell are you deaf like for real what the f*** that was beautiful get f*** out of here
You guys say it isnt but you dont justify why and just insult me instead. Morons, the lot of you.
Gordon Cowell It isnt bad. Ofc there are some awkward parts where she couldn't hold a note. But it isnt bad. Still listenable.
SHE MADE THE AUDIENCE LEARN WHAT A REAL VOCALIST SHOULD DO. AND MY MY MY ... THIS FINE YOUNG LADY TAUGHT THEM WELL. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
She's got such an amazing voice even at age 13. Beautiful ❤️
She had thick skin even as a child. One of my favorite people.
Unfortunately, the type of people who boo at a concert, at a 13 y/o no less on stage, are the same type of people who never introspect and therefore never make recompense for their sickness.
They just spread their disease amongst the world forever until they can't.
Love how she took the mic and finished it fully, great stage control to break the nerves. And obviously we all now see who she is. great vid
it was clear she didn't have teacher to guide her voice, but look where it brought her
You gotta love when youtube recommends you something beautiful like this! A young Lauryn Hill, you can see she was determined even back then to not let anyone stop her from hearing her voice. To have the confidence at age 13 to get booed by AN ENTIRE HALL OF PEOPLE (about 1000 people had to have been there) but instead of getting discouraged she got even better and MORE CONFIDENT midway in order to turn those boos into a roaring applause is incredible. Kudos to Lauryn, I just wish she had dropped more than 1 album lol
As Kanye once said "Lauryn Hill said her heart was in Zion, I wish her heart still was in rhymin', 'Cause who the kids gon' listen to? Huh? I guess me if it isn't you"
Ok but she turned that audience AROUND! I’m still so mad at the people who booed her she really didn’t let it take hold of her nerves. Proud of 13 year old Lauryn.
This reminds me of when I sang "Imagine" on stage at school at age 14. Many people talked shit about me, even a performer in the same show said I sucked. I've come a long way and grown stronger because of the Haters.
Alannah A so what do u do know
She spams UA-cam comments sections getting people to check out her channel, I presume.

Alannah A 👐
U still fucking suck
I admire that she kept going in spite of the booing.
Damn that's brutal. My heart hurts watching this .. 💔💔💔
MissIvery14 They were not booing because they thought it was bad, it is because they could not hear her, they wanted it louder
She got booed but look at her now!
Drug addict?
She hasn’t been around since 1998 lol
She has always been so beautiful 😍
They judged her all cuz she didn't karaoke sing the beginning notes all high n loud like most ppl do. She did her own thing & stayed within her range. Amazing person & talent she is.
If you guys listen closely you can hear them booing because they can't hear her well. They wanted her to move closer to the mic or the mic turned up!
She did great for a child. I love Lauren hill so much.
Persistence and belief in yourself is all you need. Lauryn Hill = perfect example!!!❤💯
she still sounds good! forget those loosers booing her
We love you and and miss your musical gifts.
Same haters were in the palm of her hands by the end of it, clapping along and cheering her. Fucking legend
This seemed like a movie scene. She did so great got booed took the mike and control. She didn't back down at 13. 👏
They had no idea that they were booing one of the most angelic, beautiful voices to every grace the mic 🙌🏽
I really don't know why some of the Immature Audience was booing her,She actually sounds good to me 😃👍🏾👍🏾
I love her but in some moments her singing was really bad. She was off key - exactly in the moments they booed her. I had to cringe.
Damn, can u imagine how much courage it took for her to keep working from this to the Grammys and beyond?
Shame onto those who were booing her. A thirteen year old. Are they serious????? Well, Lauryn proved them all wrong by becoming a very big artist. Good on you, Lauryn.

Give her a chance!.. 13 years old her voice was obviously just starting to break...
Nervous
That was the wrong song for her vocal range. Poor thing.
E.D. Paige I thought she did great
I agree. lower range was better
How could you boo at a 13 year old?
Most of the audience would be lucky to see her in person now LOL
She went on to sell over 20 million records, she believed in herself and she was right💫
She went on to sell her soul for fame unfortunately,
God loves you, if you're living in sin He won’t reject you if you are willing to repent and stop sinning. all you have to do is acknowledge that you are a sinner who needs forgiveness from Lord Jesus Christ the true God. If you ask for forgiveness sincerely, He will forgive you and guide you, in The Mighty Name of Lord Jesus Christ Amen. Remember that sin leads to Hell🔥🔥🔥. Do not idolise celebrities or your loved ones. Worship the Lord Jesus Christ in spirit and truth! Roman Catholicism is a lie from hell. Don't believe in it and don't stick to anything that goes against the Bible. Exodus 20:4 tells us not to make images to bow down to!
Focus solely on The Lord Jesus Christ, not worshiping celebrities, music, movies, television, other forms of entertainment. He promises that there is more to life than sex outside of marriage, money, parties, homosexuality and entertainment. Hell is real, repent of your sins, confess your sins, and ask God for forgiveness. The people who don’t believe the Gospel will greatly and unpleasantly be surprised on Judgment Day. Hell is very hot people, repent! In the mighty Name of the Lord Jesus Christ!
Islam, Catholicism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Santa Clausism, Confucianism, Halloweenism, Harry Potterism, Racism, Donald Trumpism, Joe Bidenism, vanity, pride and other non-Christian religions and idols lead to hell, do not believe the public figures, believe in the Almighty God who begot Lord Jesus Christ. God doesn’t need a woman to have biological Son, He is God. I choose to believe in a God who can do anything and everything, a God who has infinite power to beget a Son without a woman.
